- This is a complete DIY tutorial on AC Compressor replacement on a Lexus IS300,
having space is a necessity when it comes to removing a compressor, there are other alternatives, but this is the best way.
Warning:
Before performing any AC work, always wear protective gear, such as gloves and eye wear.
Please be sure to evacuate refrigerant from the system before attempting to replace an ac compressor/condenser/accumulator or any ac related lines and or parts. You could seriously hurt your self if you are not prepared and don’t know what you are doing.
Tools needed to complete job:
10mm socket
14mm socket
3/8 or 1/2” ratchet (both prefer)
Breaker bar or pipe
E10 torx socket
Pliers
Denso AC compressor

Thank you for such a detailed video showing all the angles of disassembling the radiator and ac compressor. You're gonna saved me as summer is making its way here and my compressor started to give up. Your cam gear o-ring replacement was helpful as well, subscribed.
Thanks, and stay tune, I’ll be doing a complete timing belt on the IS300 pretty soon.
Great video.
I watched it before I did my compressor replacement today.
I had to go back and watch the first few minutes to realize where to put the random washer.
By far, the best and well-detailed video that I could find to help me with my first-gen IS!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks man for the tutorial. Helps immensely and I love your good nature as you explain it all.
Thank you so much man! I used this video to do the same job on my 2004 is300.
One thing though. One of the compressor bracket bolts was torqued to 43ft lbs but my service manual says it should be 38ft lbs. Maybe the 04s are different.
Really? I’ve might have torque the wrong one down.
Great details and step by step. My videos would have time lapse most of that. 😂😂. I gotta do this soon and was weighing the option of trying to do it without removing radiator but I think I’ll just drain it in a jug and reuse. I just changed my coolant so can’t waste it 🤦🏻♂️.
That’s exactly what I did, drain into a clean container and put a lid on it, btw, I love your content too, very inspiring and informative on these 1st gen IS.
You do not need to remove the radiator. Move power steering pump downwards while pulling compressor upwards. Almost like to exchange positions. The compressor will now be o top of the pump and you can remove it out. I just did it 10mins ago. It was simple too
Yes, I know, and I did mention that in my video, that radiator removal is optional, but I like to have clearance when working, but thanks for your insight I really appreciate it.
do i need to remove the power steering components like he did? or can be worked around it?
Excellent video 👍
Thank you
Do you think this is why my GS is making small rattling noises? It only happens when i turn on the AC and when i turn it off it's nothing but sounds of smooth idle lol
Thx, good job 👍👍
thank you for the detailed video, very helpful. I have a question hope you can help me. When the clutch was not engaged, both low and high side have rhe same pressure, ~80psi; however, when the clutch engaged, the high side pressure remained unchanged ~80psi while the low side reduced to ~70psi. Was that what you see in your case and decided to replace the compressor? Thx.
In my case, I was only blowing hot air, and compressor was engaged, pressure showed normal, replacing the compressor fixed my issue.
super helpful thanks
I'm going to have to tackle this same job as there is some loud knocking coming from the compressor. would I need to have the system vacumed and is it not necessary to replace the condensor also? great video!!! thanks
It’s not necessary, I would do it only if it’s leaking, or if you just want to replace it you can, and yes, please get the refrigerant evacuated, I got mine evac at an oil express place and got it refilled by the same place once compressor is replaced.
thanks for the reply. definate like and subscribe for me, hope you get more and your channel grows deservedly.

Thanks, stay tune, I’ll be doing a complete timing belt and seal replacement on the IS300 soon.
do i need to vacuum and clean out my lines before doing this job? other tutorials mention to clean out lines so when u remove them they dont fly all over and in your face. ?
yes, you'll need to evacuate refrigerant from the system first before doing anything.
Hey bro so you didnt have to drain oil on new compressor? What power tool did you use? And why do we need to discharge old compressor? Ty
Compressor I bought came pre-filled w/ oil, I used impact wrench/ratchet and some standard ratchet, and you discharge so that it doesn’t blow freon in the atmosphere, it’s dangerous to the ozone and dangerous for us, it could just burst in your face due to the pressure built inside.
Thanks for the great detailed video. It has given me the confidence to try and replace compressor myself. Use the money I saved to buy that Milwaukee power tool 😁
What is the cause if one of the bolt continues to broke all timen
For some reason now she’s making a humming squealing noise. I’m going to upload a video. I think it may be an alternator puppy but I’m not sure.

♥️👍👍♥️♥️👏👍
For some reason my Is300 the ac light keeps flashing after purchasing a brand new Murray ac compressor from Oreileys auto parts…. New compressor, condenser, Freon, everything and the light flashes when she stops or comes to idle… but when she’s driving on the highway the ax stays on… any idea where I should start…. 1300 dollars on parts no resolution..
Ah, I see, you have that issue, ok, first to start off, never buy an after market AC compressor, (denso and aisin is an oem brand)reason is that the wiring on the clutch sensor wires itself is bad and that is why your lights comes on even at idle, what you should do is, if you still have the old compressor, I assume that you don’t, but you’ll need to swap out the clutch sensor wire, and yes, soldering is required. There are certain aftermarket parts you can put into the IS, but AC compressor is not one of them. Hope this helps.
@@SokhomGarage You’re awesome man! I’m going to do that. The only place that had my compressor in stock was Oreiley I wanted the Denso one but nobody had it in my area.
@@SokhomGarage I see! I really appreciate your help! I was going nuts trying to figure it out. So am I just swapping the dirt or removing the old sensors from the original compressor I have in the car? I have both old compressors. My close friend put them to the side for me.
Can you send me a photo of what I need to swap out?
Thanks.
@@SokhomGarage I love this car to pieces man! I really appreciate your help! I just didn’t know wheee to start. Can I send this compressor back and get the denso? Since this Murray ac is more expensive than the denso but the denso is the one I wanted.
Sure you can send the old one back because it is faulty, and yes, your old sensor should still be working, but if you’re going to return the new one, in which I would because you’ll have to go and take all that off again, then you don’t have to worry about swapping old sensor wire.
Stupid question, do these compressors come already oiled?
No question is bad, but to answer this, yes, the denso comes prefilled with oil with 3oz of peg oil, but it kinda don’t matter because you’ll have to take it to a shop to get it vacuum unless you do it yourself.
@@SokhomGarage thanks a million, just finished and got cold AC.
What exactly do you mean by get it vacuumed? Thanks, great video
It means to get rid of air in the system.
@@SokhomGarage is it hard to vacuum it out yourself
How do you drain the compressor
I took mine to a shop for freon evacuation.
Just a heads up; although we share the same motor as the GS and SC 300 models, many components and parts are not interchangeable. The AC compressor is just one of those things. I'm sure process is the same or similar but you can not use a GS or SC compressor on an IS. Ask me how I know 😟
Wow, really? But the process of uninstalling and installing should be the same thou
