    Personally, the Muvn 13 is a masterpiece…I’m a 6’1 male 4.5/5.0 and thought I really liked my Scorpius 14mm…the Muvn 13 is so fast the spin and paddle speed you can create is crazy. Better control and more forgiving especially on dinks and resets. Rolls at the net, flick of the wrist shots and hand battles are so much fun with this paddle. Just the feel and effortless control make it such an easy paddle to use. For me it had slightly less power/pop than the Scorpius 14mm but the added paddle speed and spin more than make up for it. The only modification I made was to add a replacement grip on top of the factory grip due to my hand size. It took a couple games to get used to the paddle speed and getting my service returns deep was an adjustment but overall an easy transition. Definitely my new doubles paddle. Thanks Gruvn

      I pinned this comment as it's one of the first viewer feedback comments I've had and also it's exactly in line with what I feel regarding this paddle. That GRUVN plushness at 13mm you'd think a 13mm paddle would be too poppy to be totally control-oriented... let alone be the best control paddle of 2023, but it does have a touch less power and pop than the Scorpeus 14mm. Which adds to its control potential in my eyes. I think everything you said here is spot on. Loving this paddle. Cheers!!

      In your video review you said it had more power than the Joola, I think mine definitely has less, but you are right on with the control and feel being fantastic. Especially surprising for a 13mm, but of the control paddles I have tried, I would put this at the top as well.

      @@timkadom1722 Fair enough man. I think for me I should have added that with some lead tape at the bottom of the sides at the 4 and 8 oclock positions it helps, and along with the pop of this paddle I feel like it has surprising power for it's shape and size, but I am super glad we are in agreement with the control aspects! :)

    I've been playing with this paddle for the last few days, after playing the 6.0 DBD -- a control paddle i've been very impressed with. The Muvn 13S definitely took some adjustment, but it has been worth it. The spin is still there, but I picked up quite a bit of power when I need it. I've gotten more whiffs on my serve this week than usual, and the lighter weight has made my hand battles better. I'm really into this paddle, for me it has been a balanced combination of excellent control and power when I need to pound a shot. Great call on this one.

      Thank you! That makes me super happy. It is a huge risk calling a 13mm paddle the best control paddle, but for me the hand speed and the general feel of what GRUVN did here ranks it number 1 for me. When it comes to control it's not just about something super cushy and plush, it really comes down to something that provides feedback, spin, reset potential, dink potential, and really goes exactly where your minds eye expected the ball to go, and the MUVN 13s does that in my eyes. Love feedback like this when it confirms what I'm saying. The whole point of my channel is to try and spread as accurate of info as I can to help people navigate the pickleball paddle space as efficiently as possible :)

    I used your code to purchase the Muvn 13s (big thanks) and I’m really enjoying it. I let my wife borrow it and another is on the way. I can’t get mine away from her as she loves it as well. I thought that I would not like the shape but it there nothing that I don’t like about it. I’m kind of a gear head and also ordered the six zero Ruby. The Ruby is a fantastic paddle but I keep going back to the 13s . There is something special about it. I’m a 3.5+ player so i know I’m not taking advantage of what the paddles can do but the Muvn 13s is just a fun paddle that suits my game.

    Thanks for the review. Just got into PB and noticed that the borrowed paddles I've used have very small sweet spot. Decided to buy two different premium paddles so that I would have a choice for myself and then another good paddle for my wife or kid when we play. They have it on sale right now, so it's only $144 plus shipping with the discount code. Seemed like a no-brainer, so I ordered the 13S and then ordered a Vatic Pro Prism Flash as my other paddle. I've only played 3 times so far but I'm absolutely addicted.

      @@stspickleball I've played with both now and I definitely gravitate to the 13s (Unfortunately my 9 yr old daughter stole it from me!). The Prism Flash is wonderful and I have zero issues with it, but I just feel like when I pick up the 13s after playing the vatic I get an extra level of feel and spin. The topspin trajectory of my serves was noticeably different for the better with the 13s. Have you reviewed the 13X? I can't really find anything out there and I'm wondering how it compares to the 13S and the 16X. I think the 13S has been claimed for good by the daughter, so I'm considering buying her one in pink, or trying out one of the other shapes and letting her keep my orange 13S.

    I'm looking at new paddles and use the CRBN 3x right now but need something better for control, dinking, and drops. I hit tennis swing forehands (power and spin) and a one hand backhand, is there any problem with the height of the face of the paddle? • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  10 місяців тому +1

      If you can mentally keep a bit of lag into your drives the 13mm aspect keeps them very aggressive and controlled. Some lead tape can help here as well. I had no issue being aggressive and placing my drives well but with the 99 swing weight you do have to be aware of maintaining a lag with your wrist because normally that lag would happen naturally with more swing weight if that makes sense.

    What will be the biggest difference I notice if I switch from Six Zero DBD? I love hitting and placing shots where I want it to go (drops, tough angles, etc) and finishing at the net with control, but also with enough power. The DBD has been great, but just wondering if my drops can get more consistent with the Gruvn 13S (and with more practice too of course).

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  9 місяців тому

      It is a smaller faced paddle, but you will notice your mind will be able to place the sweetspot easier because of the smaller face. Less to think about. I think for drops it is super easy and makes those a no brainer, but you will notice less power.

      For me it does yes. The pop is not crazy at all it feels super balanced. I know it sounds odd that a 13mm paddle is my top control paddle of 2023 but it's an incredible paddle for control. A lot of 16mm standard shaped paddles feel almost muted off the face, but the MUVN 13s has that GRUVN plushness along with a lot more feedback off the face than 16mm paddles. Kind of the best of both worlds.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  10 місяців тому +3

      I would definitely give it a shot man. All of the CRBN paddles are very firm and their thinner option paddles for me are very harsh and unforgiving off the face. But then for me a 16mm standard shaped paddle like a 2x can feel a little too cushy or muted off the face. I really like the feel of the 13s and would definitely urge you to give it a try. It's cheaper too. I'd pick up the 13s over any CRBN paddle right now.

      DBD will have more power for sure. That’s a hard question. The DBD, MUVN 13S, and Mach 1 Forza are three of my favorite paddles. They all just have their place and do certain things really well. I might give the edge to the MUVN 13S just because it has such fast hand speed and feels amazing control wise which are things I really value in my game but it’s close.

    brand new to PB and am loving ALL your paddle reviews. I consider myself a control player (tennis),so your review of the GRUVN 13S, (especially your control rating,) has me intrigued. With next to no experience with paddles lengths, I don't think the smaller face will be an issue when purchasing my first paddle.
    One question.... you said adding lead tape (at 4&8 o'clock ) will increase power... would the tape added make this paddle close to the Forza Mach1 in terms of power which is my #2 choice to purchase?

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  8 місяців тому

      Not quite. The Mach 1 Forza is still going to have more power and a bit more pop. This paddle is extremely unique. Smaller face but it makes placing shots an absolute breeze. Not really for a driver and crasher of the ball but more for someone who wants to drop the ball, get up to the line, and win hand battles over and over. It’s so quick in the hands and it’s thermoformed and 13mm so it has enough pop to win hand battles and just crazy speed. I’d go Mach 1 Forza if you want a great all around paddle or the MUVN 13S if you want something unique and if you think what I mentioned above would be well suited for your play style.

    This does not have as much power as the Anna bright scorpius. In fact, you mostly have to provide all the power yourself. A friend of mine hit it and said “this paddle sucks, it feels dead.” I don’t agree with that, but wanted to make sure that people who are expecting a higher power paddle as per this video review will not be disappointed.
    Having said that, there is also a definite psychological disadvantage with the size. It fits inside the edgeguard of the Anna bright, so imagine losing that area on your paddle face, and the impact that will have on you mentally. Ok good, if you are still reading, there are positives as well. I think the control is amazing. The spin is better than the Anna bright, but not quite as good as my Volair Forza. When I first got it, I thought I likely was going to be selling it immediately, but I am happy I did not. It feels very good in my hand, and while I can’t talk about the sweet spot being as generous as the reviewer claims, I oddly I hit more shots in the center of this paddle. I will keep working with it, but I thought it was important to let people know that the power is going to mostly be coming from you with this paddle. If you are ok with that, and ok with having a smaller hitting surface, you may like this paddle a lot. it strangely enough seems to just be where I need it to be all the time. I would compare it more to the prism flash, and between those two I prefer the control I get on the 13s. Don’t buy this if you indexed on the power part of the review, but buy it if you want a quick control paddle.

      The MUVN 13s is going to be the touch / control choice for me. The 16mm elongated paddle is much firmer off the face and doesn't have the same feel. But if I had to choose between the MUVN 16x and the bread and butter filth I'd go MUVN 16x. But I'd take the 13s over both of those.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  10 місяців тому +2

      Construction is as good or better depending on what paddle you get from Joola as they have some manufacturing issues I've heard. GRUVN quality is top-notch, the owner prides himself on that and the feel off the face specifically very much. I cover in this video the difference in power between the 13S and the 16mm and 14mm scorpeus, but I don't mind sharing a bit more about that here. The 13S is going to have more power and a bit more pop than the 16mm of course being a 13mm paddle, but it's not overly poppy at all. I've used a lot of 13mm paddles and especially elongated 13mm paddles are extremely poppy and rigid off the face. This 13S is going to have good feedback off the face, I think that's something I really like about it. It doesn't feel as muted or overly plush off the face like a 16mm standard shaped paddle does like the 16mm Colin Johns Scorpeus feels. I definitely prefered the 14mm Scorpeus over the 16mm in my testing but I much prefer the 13S over both. Some people probably think I'm crazy putting a 13mm paddle as the number 1 control paddle for 2023 but honestly it deserves it.

      @stspickleball  10 місяців тому +1

      Honestly as I get more and more feel for the differences of paddles I have gone back and hit a ton of paddles that I have already reviewed and I feel like I have a much better understanding of it all now. I would say the Diadem 18K has more power and relative pop to this paddle, but I would honestly say now that the diadem has quite a bit less control. The diadem however does have a ton of spin, it's the highest spinning paddle I've reviewed. I think if you value spin a touch more power and good control I'd go diadem 18k, and if you value control, extremely fast hands, with solid spin and a little less power I'd go MUVN 13S. For me even though the 13S has a pretty small face it just works so well for me. I feel like I hit the sweet spot more often for some reason and I really like it.
