Thanks Gerrit, that was a very nice, long film about your Camino. I love it when people post long films about the whole undertaking in one go. It gives us, the audience, the chance to really 'be' there with you and to feel and understand a little bit of what is going on with oneself on this magical path. I was the whole time wondering what your profession would be. For a while I guessed you would be a 'Profimusiker' like myself (Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach), but no musician would get free from work two months of May in a row. But you do use a lot of music related things as metaphors for explaining what the Camino is and what it does to oneself. I will do my first Camino this summer in August and September and films like this make it very difficult to wait the three months between now and then. But they also give me the opportunity to prepare myself, at least pragmatically, for the trip. I hope to find an as nice 'family' as you did and an as open view on what comes (or not) as you did. Thanks a lot for your great work,

I want to get as sclose to that as possible (albeit subjectively, of course). It's great that you're a musician! I love music. I am currently in the Miami airport, awaiting my flight to Madrid and then to Pamplona and a bus ride to SJPdP. Have a 3 1/2 hour layover in Miami and loving watching your video.
I always felt the opposite about "bucketlist pilgrims". People who know they don't have the resources (whether it be time, money, or physicality) still choose to have the experience. They do what they can. They walk what they're able. And they join the party rather than ruin it. I respect them for still trying, even if they can't do the whole thing.

You have no to take the Meseta as a negative point... you leave behind the pretty towns full of people to enter a flat, arid world where the towns are distant, and that gives you the moment to think about what you have lived and what you have left to live, to find yourself again and feel the world as it flows around you. La Meseta changes its colors and landscapes with the seasons: intense green in spring and yellow in summer and autumn... you have to enjoy it!!...😊

Thank you for sharing your Camino. I started my Camino in mid-March 2024 in SJPP and arrived in Santiago toward the end of April. I've now been home for almost 2 months, and I think about it every day, several times a day. I'm still processing the experience, and may process it for a long time to come. The memories came flooding back watching this video. The same paths, the same cafes and bars and oases, and seemingly some of the same people serving cafe con leche. I don't know if I have another Camino in me, but I do know that I will come back to your videos again. All the best and Buen Camino!

So many stories in this fabulous long epic movie. Intense all the way, in so many different ways. I just finished watching it and am still stunned by the end, not just the 100 km in 24 hours but also the comments. Ever thought of pitching this to Netflix or one of those streaming services? I enjoyed watching your Camino. I have to share (in case you didn't know) that the line "The future's uncertain and the end is always near" come from the song Roadhouse Blues by the Doors. Jim Morrison wrote the lyrics. I also get that is seems empty to do something like this alone. I went to the Grand Canyon and that moment of awe of seeing it for the first time was empty when there was no one else to turn to. But I think you made the right decision to complete it on your own and then go to the wedding.
hi Dave, thank you for pointing that out - good point… great track, too. even a year later and after finishing my third camino, it is quite clear to me how much I missed by finishing it alone that night. and yet… I’m also very happy I went to the wedding. It’s just one of those things….

Absolutely loved it! Will be walking from SJPDP this Fall. Film solidified The Camino is many things, to many people! For me, it will be a pilgrimage, a goal, another bucket list item, with Kilimanjaro behind me, and the Kumano Kodo in front of me, along with the Everest Base Camp. I'm considering doing the Camino but cannot do it all in one go due to time constraints. I love your deep reflection on so many points about the Camino, so many other videos try but just don't get there. I also love that you want to return for more Camino medicine... I feel the same way, once I start, I feel I'll keep returning. Stellar. 99 out of 100. I only rate it a 99 because it should have been 8-10 hours long! ha ha. Well, it could have been longer, but 4 hours plus was a treat. So, I actually rate it 100 out of 100. Just wanted to make a complimentary joke. You've swayed me even more to do the Camino. We'll see. I enjoyed your poetic evaluations of the trek and various situations. Your overall commentary was great. Loved the friend group and camaraderie. Loved seeing the animals, the terrain, the architecture, of course the people, the food, the places you stayed and the rain/sun/gloom. It was fairly exciting when you guys splurged for an apartment. I expect you'll be doing these kinds of videos for a living, at some point, if you aren't already. I did already watch your Camino video from last year and it was great too. Schön gefilmt und gute Reflexionen. Trotzdem finde ich es traurig und befremdend, wie "Luxuspilgern" die Norm geworden ist. Ständig geht es ums Essen und komfortable Unterkünfte. Ständig sitzt man bei alkoholischen Getränken in einer Bar.... Ok, diese Pilger tragen zum Lebensunterhalt ganzer Regionen Spaniens bei, aber ist das Essen wirklich so zentral, dass pausenlos Gerichte auf Tellern dokumentiert werden müssen? Was ist aus dem gemeinsamen Kochen geworden, dem unbequemen Schlafen, dem geteilten Picknick am Wegesrand....der Einfachheit und Gleichheit von Reich und Arm auf dem Camino? Kein Wunder, dass auf dem Camino Frances die Preise sich teils verdreifacht haben in wenigen Jahren....Wirklich 😢.
Hallo Simone, naja - das Essen ist meistens extrem schlicht, von Luxusessen kann höchstens (wenn man will) in den großen Städten die Rede sein. Weil man ständig Hunger hat, muss das auch dokumentiert werden - Essen ist nun mal sehr zentral. Was jetzt der Gewinn von Schlafmangel wegen Schnarchkonzert ist, erschließt sich mir nicht ganz. Das hat man sowieso noch oft genug. Trotzdem, danke für deine Gedanken 🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@storiestellrnicht Luxusessen, sondern Luxuspilgern. Damit meine ich, dass es für eine immer größere Anzahl an Pilgern normal ist, mindestens 1× täglich in Bars und Restaurants zu essen, zumeist aber sogar 3x, zusätzlich zu sonstigen Barbesuchen für Kaffee etc. Und dazu noch komfortable Unterkünfte. Und dass das alles so im Vordergrund steht. Aber was für mich und viele andere weniger betuchte Pilger Luxus ist, mag für Dich einfaches Leben sein. Ich persönlich kenne den Camino Frances aus anderen Zeiten, in denen eben die meisten, aus welchem Milieu auch immer, eine ganz andere Erfahrung machten. Jetzt ist das noch auf Wegen mit weniger Infrastruktur möglich...glücklicherweise. Und den Camino Frances gehe ich nur noch im Winter.

Du hast die Zeit halt nicht erlebt, als es noch normal war, in den Herbergen gemeinsam zu kochen, gemeinsam zu picknicken irgendwo am Wegesrand, Zeiten in denen das Essen im Restaurant die Ausnahme war, wenn es was zu feiern gab und kaum ein Pilger auf die Idee gekommen wäre, täglich essen zu gehen. Es gab nicht viel Infrastruktur, dafür aber viel Gemeinschaft, die Reiche und Arme aus allen Kulturen selbstverständlich integrierte. Eine Erfahrung, die heute kaum noch möglich ist, weil fast nur noch Pilger mit entsprechendem Budget unterwegs sind und glauben, das sei eben so auf dem Camino. Ja, die Zeiten ändern sich, schon klar, aber es geht eben wirklich etwas verloren dabei. Ich pilgere immer noch auf die alte Art, mit 10-15 € Tagesbudget, was nur noch mit Zelt möglich ist und man bleibt ziemlich alleine dabei inzwischen.... naja, das alles wird Dich wohl wenig interessieren, macht nix. Der Camino ist noch immer der Gleiche, und er schenkt immer noch sehr viel Gutes :)
@@storiestellr because most of the time what is shown in the videos are shared apartments. Very comfortable by the way. I asked, if there were any problems with overcrowding, bed bugs, snoring and other problems related to collective albergues.
@danigueites5009 on my most recent Camino about a month ago, I picked more albergues. There are some that are absolutely beautiful. snoring is Always… but I got used to it and it turned into some kind kind of white noise. Some beds are sometimes a bit short (I’m very tall). It’s all part of the experience.!

I agree, the Meseta isn't a negative, on the contrary: it's one of the most intense bits of the entire Camino, in a good way!
This was 3 and a half hours of pure joy. Not a dull minute, and I mean that in all seriousness. So much fantastic filming of many great experiences. Extremely professional in every way.

Thank you for sharing your Camino. I started my Camino in mid-March 2024 in SJPP and arrived in Santiago toward the end of April. I've now been home for almost 2 months, and I think about it every day, several times a day. I'm still processing the experience, and may process it for a long time to come. The memories came flooding back watching this video. The same paths, the same cafes and bars and oases, and seemingly some of the same people serving cafe con leche. I don't know if I have another Camino in me, but I do know that I will come back to your videos again. All the best and Buen Camino!

I enjoyed watching your Camino. I have to share (in case you didn't know) that the line "The future's uncertain and the end is always near" come from the song Roadhouse Blues by the Doors. Jim Morrison wrote the lyrics. I also get that is seems empty to do something like this alone. I went to the Grand Canyon and that moment of awe of seeing it for the first time was empty when there was no one else to turn to. But I think you made the right decision to complete it on your own and then go to the wedding.

Absolutely loved it! Will be walking from SJPDP this Fall. Film solidified The Camino is many things, to many people! For me, it will be a pilgrimage, a goal, another bucket list item, with Kilimanjaro behind me, and the Kumano Kodo in front of me, along with the Everest Base Camp. Just wanted to make a complimentary joke. You've swayed me even more to do the Camino. We'll see. I enjoyed your poetic evaluations of the trek and various situations. Your overall commentary was great. Loved the friend group and camaraderie. Loved seeing the animals, the terrain, the architecture, of course the people, the food, the places you stayed and the rain/sun/gloom. It was fairly exciting when you guys splurged for an apartment. I expect you'll be doing these kinds of videos for a living, at some point, if you aren't already. I did already watch your Camino video from last year and it was great too. I absolutely loved watching your video and story, I felt you were walking for me, I planned to do it a few years ago but had to cancel doing it due to major surgery sadly I am no longer able to undertake take such a beautiful experience.

I don’t remember see albergues with 2 or 3 beds? More like 50 to 100 bunk beds
there’s all kinds - big albergues, small ones, private rooms with a host, apartments, hostels… - and everything is booked
I'm dying to know why Jim and Evan both had to leave so abruptly!!! Such a sad shift for the group.

Ok, diese Pilger tragen zum Lebensunterhalt ganzer Regionen Spaniens bei, aber ist das Essen wirklich so zentral, dass pausenlos Gerichte auf Tellern dokumentiert werden müssen?
Was ist aus dem gemeinsamen Kochen geworden, dem unbequemen Schlafen, dem geteilten Picknick am Wegesrand....der Einfachheit und Gleichheit von Reich und Arm auf dem Camino?
Kein Wunder, dass auf dem Camino Frances die Preise sich teils verdreifacht haben in wenigen Jahren....Wirklich 😢.
Hallo Simone, naja - das Essen ist meistens extrem schlicht, von Luxusessen kann höchstens (wenn man will) in den großen Städten die Rede sein. Weil man ständig Hunger hat, muss das auch dokumentiert werden - Essen ist nun mal sehr zentral. Was jetzt der Gewinn von Schlafmangel wegen Schnarchkonzert ist, erschließt sich mir nicht ganz. Das hat man sowieso noch oft genug. Trotzdem, danke für deine Gedanken 🤜🏼🤛🏼

Damit meine ich, dass es für eine immer größere Anzahl an Pilgern normal ist, mindestens 1× täglich in Bars und Restaurants zu essen, zumeist aber sogar 3x, zusätzlich zu sonstigen Barbesuchen für Kaffee etc. Und dazu noch komfortable Unterkünfte. Und dass das alles so im Vordergrund steht.
Aber was für mich und viele andere weniger betuchte Pilger Luxus ist, mag für Dich einfaches Leben sein.
Ich persönlich kenne den Camino Frances aus anderen Zeiten, in denen eben die meisten, aus welchem Milieu auch immer, eine ganz andere Erfahrung machten.
Jetzt ist das noch auf Wegen mit weniger Infrastruktur möglich...glücklicherweise. Und den Camino Frances gehe ich nur noch im Winter.
naja gut, 3x Essen am Tag sollte man bei dem enormen Kalorienverbrauch schon… ich sehe jetzt nicht, was daran so schlimm sein soll.

Du hast die Zeit halt nicht erlebt, als es noch normal war, in den Herbergen gemeinsam zu kochen, gemeinsam zu picknicken irgendwo am Wegesrand, Zeiten in denen das Essen im Restaurant die Ausnahme war, wenn es was zu feiern gab und kaum ein Pilger auf die Idee gekommen wäre, täglich essen zu gehen. Es gab nicht viel Infrastruktur, dafür aber viel Gemeinschaft, die Reiche und Arme aus allen Kulturen selbstverständlich integrierte. Eine Erfahrung, die heute kaum noch möglich ist, weil fast nur noch Pilger mit entsprechendem Budget unterwegs sind und glauben, das sei eben so auf dem Camino. Ja, die Zeiten ändern sich, schon klar, aber es geht eben wirklich etwas verloren dabei. Ich pilgere immer noch auf die alte Art, mit 10-15 € Tagesbudget, was nur noch mit Zelt möglich ist und man bleibt ziemlich alleine dabei inzwischen.... naja, das alles wird Dich wohl wenig interessieren, macht nix. Der Camino ist noch immer der Gleiche, und er schenkt immer noch sehr viel Gutes :)

Hmmm… even though we often shared apartments ,I did go to albergues, i’m wondering why you didn’t see them..
@@storiestellr because most of the time what is shown in the videos are shared apartments. Very comfortable by the way.
I asked, if there were any problems with overcrowding, bed bugs, snoring and other problems related to collective albergues.
@danigueites5009 on my most recent Camino about a month ago, I picked more albergues. There are some that are absolutely beautiful. snoring is Always… but I got used to it and it turned into some kind kind of white noise. Some beds are sometimes a bit short (I’m very tall). It’s all part of the experience.!
@@storiestellr on our most recent Camino, my wife and I were bitten a lot by bed bugs. Bad experience.
