I speak 4 languages and I read Egyptian hieroglyphs, therefore the sequence of events that JFZ develop the topics is exactly what I need but I will like to know which other important books are required.
Im currently working through 'Japanese From Zero Book 1' Id highly recommend it! and as you say the author is great he a native English speaker like myself, but has if i read right 30 years of experience with Japanese language, easy to understand and easy to follow.

I was looking for a good textbook to start learning japanese by myself, as i don't have the time (or money) to take classes, and your review helped me to a good idea on what to expect with this book. Thank you for this amazing review!
@@geostigma3120 it actually helped me quite a lot to get started. The book does a great job in keeping things relatively simple in a good pace. It gives you a good idea about the basics of japanese grammar. You will learn things like talking about yourself and referring to objects etc first. What i basically did was learning every new word in each chapter and repeating the lessons from time to time. While doing that i always copied the questions and words from the book on a sheet of paper. That way you can repeat each lesson multiple times. After doing that a couple times it is very hard to forget what you've learned. I would strongly recommend you to learn Hiragana first though, since you will be able to read most things in the book, which will improve your speed and Hiragana quite a bit as well. So my conclusion is: this book is a great way to get started. I hope this helps, good luck learning!

Objective in the sense that the video is not sponsored so my opinion isn't bought. I mean, English isn't my first language so I thought that would make sense.
I think it might be a little annoying at the beginning to not have the word written fully in hiragana but it gives you a chance to practice the writing and if your vocab and grammar is limited, you'll be able to get a lot out of the book imo. And the price is quite low (I paid 14 pounds for it!) so I think it's still a good investment :).

Honestly, I think it's good for any beginner. The pace is quite slow so it's not overwhelming. And with George's video, you also kinda have a teacher as well! :D
Voir tous ces romaji ça me bloque presque.
I’m happy it doesn’t come with a CD because how and where can i even use a CD. CD’s are not a thing anymore, the younger generation doesn’t even know what a CD is. Like literally there are no laptops that can use CD’s and most TV sets dont have a CD thing anymore. I’m personally happy about content being available on UA-cam, much better because its versatile
I'm thinking of starting with genki and later get Japanese from zero however, genki is the type of book that teaches you words and phrases you wouldn't use in everyday speech so I'm kinda thrown off with it. Should I still get genki even though I'm going to be learning things that only gradeschoolers would learn like -watashi wa- when most would say -to moshimasu-
Kevin Abroad I see, well thank you for taking the time to reply none the less. That means something too even if you can't help me with my question. In that case though could you say that the Japanese from zero books is a great place to start ? I already know hiragana and katakana along with a little kanji and grammar.
@@tomoyazahard7244 No worries :D. Hmm... I think it depends on your level of grammar. If you have almost no knowledge of grammar, I think JFZ can be good because it explains the grammar from scratch (and George's videos are great for that too). If you're quite confident, you could consider jumping straight to book 2. I would recommend that you check the content of the book and check with yourself what you already know or not. I hope that helps!
Kevin Abroad Thank you for the recommendation. I have very little knowledge just enough to make one sentence so I think I I've made up my mind I'll get this series. I'm sorry to take up your time but I appreciate everything you've told me so far.
@@tomoyazahard7244 If you have almost no knowledge of grammar then I feel like JFZ can be good for you! Will this book help if you know absolutely nothing about Japanese?
Yes, it's for complete beginners! No previous knowledge required :)
Kevin Abroad thank you for replying. I’ll definitely get this to start off with
Don't forget these videos as well, though, I recommend going through them after Book 2.
ua-cam.com/play/PLOcym2c7xnByT4AIn-YSx2ela7hqrcooA.html - Japanese In 5 min (Sometimes not really 5)
ua-cam.com/play/PLOcym2c7xnBxJ_5jFXAAKjgqwk4CynIUU.html - Daily Japanese
I’m going to buy this book. Is it good for high schoolers like myself? I’ve been trying to learn Japanese but it’s not going good.
Honestly, I think it's good for any beginner. The pace is quite slow so it's not overwhelming. And with George's video, you also kinda have a teacher as well! :D
Kevin Abroad thanks. I’m getting the first and second book. I think this will help me very much
I feel like jfz is more speaking focused. Genki and minano nihongo are too, but they are more academic.
@@KevinAbroad je vais me pencher dessus...
Je me suis penchée (un peu) dessus, et j'avoue que la méthode progressive me rebute.
Haha. Well, when we say CD, it doesn't have to be a literal CD. It can be a virtual CD with online tracks or something.
I'm thinking of starting with genki and later get Japanese from zero however, genki is the type of book that teaches you words and phrases you wouldn't use in everyday speech so I'm kinda thrown off with it. Should I still get genki even though I'm going to be learning things that only gradeschoolers would learn like -watashi wa- when most would say -to moshimasu-
I wouldn't be the best person to ask because I never tried genki! :(
Kevin Abroad I see, well thank you for taking the time to reply none the less.
I would like to ask one more question if you don't mind. What is the second book you're talking about ? Is there multiple parts to the Japanese from zero series or is there something I'm missing. I'm sorry to take up your time but I appreciate everything you've told me so far.
@@tomoyazahard7244 If you have almost no knowledge of grammar then I feel like JFZ can be good for you! Even if you know the kana and some kanji, practicing the writing in between lessons will be very useful.
No worries, I'm always happy to answer comments! JFZ is a book series made up of 5 books. Book 5 is only an ebook for now I believe but the other ones are both available in physical copies. I will progressively review them as I complete them so if you're interested, keep your eyes peeled :D
Why did i watch this? I have no interest in this book or learning japanese. Im in a weird youtube rabbit hole. Oh well, hope you enjoyed my view and comment which boosted engagement. Good luck to you.
Lmao. Thank you, much appreciated

Thank you for taking 30+ hours to complete the book, record the video, edit the video and publish it for free so ungrateful people can leave ungrateful comments on your video
Jk this video is cool lol, Gj!

George could easily stick his compliation video (of all his videos about the first book) on a dvd inside the book but I guess there's not much point in that
thank u a loot!!!
Where is that dumb comment I need to leave a hate reply on it
LOL. If you keep looking you'll find it.
Who even has a cd player anymore at least on computer
I do :D
@@KevinAbroad Is it a laptop? if not dang that thing must be old or you built it in a case with a cd drive spot.
@@irodragon7184 Ahah well my current one was built and I don't have one but on my other computer back home, which is like 4-5 years old I think? I have one hehe. But yeah they tend to not be included anymore

Please show some respect to content creators next time.
I'm sorry.. honestly
