"Language learning isn't meant to be a stressful experience." I literally had to pause the video and cry. You are so right. Often times we are so hard on ourselves for not progressing "fast enough", and this leads to opposite feelings towards the learning! I needed this reminder. And I appreciate you and your channel. You are so inspirational! ❤

Aww thank you so much! I don't wanna make you cry 🥺😭😭😭😭😭! But I completely understand what you mean! Especially since I am uploading content each week, I feel as if I need to have made some progress...but its okay to take breaks or even just re-learn things because its fun! I guess the contrary is called counter productivity (or something like that)... I appreciate your support so much Konami 💕💕💕💕💕💕 Stay strong ❤️

I had to stop studying Korean when my mental health really went downhill in the middle of 2020. I've been picking it up again almost a year later and have to go over everything I already learned since I forgot most of it. I sometimes feel sad that I lost so much time and have almost nothing to show for everything I studied but I realize it's not a competition. We really should go at our own pace, and any progress is better than nothing ♥

Idk if this will help, but high school kids in australia study Japanese throughout high school for 6 years and they end up at around N4. And that's with consistent classes throughout the year with a teacher, assignments, tests and stuff sooo lol the bar is so low here

@@yutassmilehealsme6572 yes. I’ve been on exchange to Japan (without ever studying Japanese) and after 3 months there, an Australian came who studied Japanese since first grade. Though her Japanese was really impressive and way better than mine when I started, I still spoke way better Japanese within just 3 months of staying in Japan. I don’t want to say Australians are bad at studying Japanese at all. I’d never be able to speak Japanese if I wouldn’t have gone there. It just shows how incredibly difficult it is to get to a decent level of Japanese without living there.

I study 3 languages at the same time; English, Japanese and Zazaki. English and Zazaki are pretty hard for me bcos their grammar is not even close to my native language's; which is Turkish. But Japanese grammar is so similar to my language's and currently i give importance to English/Zazaki grammar, while giving importance to Japanese vocabulary^^
So tysm for this video, i'll have to keep way more notebooks than i already keep!

    • @charmingsiren9503

    • @abbeyrhapsody3205

@@charmingsiren9503 Zazaki language is spoken by Zaza people; mostly in the eastern side of Turkey. It is an Indo-European language from the Iranian branch, and Zaza people are Iranian, even though they mostly live in Turkey. (My step-mother is a Zaza so i thought that'd be cool to learn it, but it seems a bit hard, Indo-European languages are not for me lol)

    • @hilecireyiz5148
      @hilecireyiz5148 2 роки тому +11

hi I'm also turkish and I know there are many likeness between japanese and turkish; for anyone who would like to learn either turkish or japanese, here are some examples of the resemblance
The grammar is over %95 the same! (such as both of em being agglutinative languages, both of em have vowel harmony, the sentence structure, word order etc)
The way of thinking, the sentence form is the same, the way you put and even the form of the suffixes are nearly the same, even some of the tenses are! Such as "-mashta" is a past tense in Japanese, in Turkish this past tense is "-mishti/-mushtu/ -müshtü/"
Also there is the past tense "-ta" in Japanese, in Turkish it is "-ti/tı" but also can be "tü/dü/di/dı"
In Japanese there is "desu" which is pronounced as "des" and there is "dır" in Turkish; which is used in the same way and mean the same thing!
Also in Japanese, that "desu" can be "da" and in Turkish, that "dır" also can be "da"! But it is not official and it is an accent. Such as "watashi wa ningen da!" and "ben bir insanım da!" but in Turkish, you usually prolong the "a" of "da", and usually older people who don't have an Istanbul accent would add the "da".
In Japanese there is this "ari-mas/ (put a word) imas" form if you know, in turkish this is "var-mis/ (put a word) imis"
In Japanese you usually add "ka" to ask questions and in Turkish you add "ki" but it is not that necessary. In Japanese when you want to say "a's car" (the car belonging to person a) you'd say "a no kuruma", in Turkish you'd say "a nun-nin arabası"
Also, if you want to say "at the library" (it doesnt have to be library, im just giving example) in Turkish you'd say "Kütüphane de" and in Japanese you'd say "Toshokan de". Let me give you a sentence I've come up from a video. Let's look at the Japanese and Turkish version of the sentence "He-She had gone to/ went to university at Izmir"
Turkish : Izmir de universite ye gitmishti (gitmişti; ş is pronounced as sh)
Japanese : Izmir de daigaku e ikimashta"
(And for ta/ti example I've given you earlier, for the verb go; it would be "itta" and "gitti")
Or we have "o - i, ı" (which does not exist in many languages, but kinda gives "the/a/an" vibes to me, such as "Sakuranbo o tabemashita" (written as wo pronounced as o) and "Kiraz ı yemishtim" meaning the past forms of I eat a/the cherry
Or their infinitive suffixes look the same "-masu" and "-mak"
So there are many more examples but these are the ones I came up with.
      As for the origin places of these two languages;
Proto-Japonic, the common ancestor of the Japanese and Ryukyuan languages, is thought to have been brought to Japan by settlers coming from the Korean peninsula sometime in the early- to mid-4th century BC (the Yayoi period)
So it says Japanese language originated in Korean peninsula but I've also read articles saying Japanese language originated in Japan so I'm not quite sure.
As for the origin place of the Turkish language ( all Turkic languages)
"There are still disputes over it today but as mostly accepted; the Turkic languages originated in Eastern Asia spanning Western China, Mongolia and Southeastern Siberia. At the time the first Turkic languages were spoken, it resembled the modern Turkish language we know today very little. The Turkic people and languages clearly had a bond with the Chinese"
(Some other sources say Turkic Languages originated in Manchuria)
Oh and today however we dropped many Chinese and Turkic words and replaced them with the Arabic and French words, especially during the Seljuk Empire and the Ottoman Empire.
Today, the Chinese words in both Anatolian and Cypriotic Turkic (Turkish) remained very little and we got these words thousands of years ago from the Chinese; we have the words çocuk(kid), yılan(snake), su(water), ev(house), inci(pearl) etc which managed to still remain today.

I regret neglecting my Japanese study after passing N5 (back then I didn't even get that high of a grade). That was around 2015 too, and now I want to kick-start my study again and hopefully pass N4 next year. I don't have any tutor and do all my studies by myself so this is very useful to me for study ideas.

So thank u so much and all the best for your upcoming finals !!

Been learning Japanese off and on since 09 and I still have not learned all of N5. Thankfully, I have made Japanese friends using Hellotalk. I talk to some almost every day in Japanese and others once a week. I'm now motivated more than ever to finally go beyond N5. This video also motivates me to make my notes look more clean and organized lol.

I also learned Japanese for about 7 to 8 years now, but somehow I don't have that much material gathered. Maybe yes, but not as sorted and pretty looking. I never had a teacher until I went to Japan for a few months and had one there in my school. After that I studied alone again. I also never took the Language tests but I should be close to N3.
Right now I'm revisiting beginner grammar and summarise it in a notebook to help my sister start learning. This video inspired me a little.

Hello Jazmine, You are the best! I have a frustrating experience. Not knowing where to begin or hitting a plateau can feel demoralizing and make it hard to hit the books and study like you know you should…Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships.
