- A statue of the Queen on the fourth plinth of Trafalgar Square has been ruled out by Sadiq Khan for the foreseeable future.
A spokesman said on Wednesday: “The Fourth Plinth will continue to showcase new works by world-class artists for the foreseeable future. There are planned Fourth Plinth exhibits for the next four years."
MPs in the House of Commons had broadly voiced support for a statue of the late monarch on the vacant plinth.
The Mayor's office said that the Mayor would support a statue of the monarch: "A statue of the Queen at a suitable location in London is a matter for the Royal family to consider, and of course the Greater London Authority stands ready to support them in their wishes."
TalkTV's Mike Graham slammed the Mayor of London for ruling out putting up a statue of the late Queen.
"Sadiq Khan seems to think that London is his. Don't you dare tell us that we can't have a statue of the Queen, because the people of this country want it."

Khan isn't saying there shouldn't be a statue of the Queen, he is simply deferring the idea of her statue using the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. That doesn't mean he won't consider giving her a space elsewhere that could well be even more meaningful. Why do you read/hear one thing and immediately jump to the most extreme conclusion?

Having just visited London for a few days, I discovered that I was an ethnic minority being white British. Two things occurred to me. Firstly London would not be able to operate without the multitude of foreign workers because that’s all I saw working there. Secondly, London does not seem to belong to the rest of the UK as it appeared so alien to me. Sadiq Kahn has succeeded in having his own little Britain hating enclave.
Probably lots of other towns too. Bradford especially. Of course if all the foreign workers left the British could come back as it once was.
Where in London? The centre is always full of tourists. But you clearly have a lot of Brits there. Also you have a lot of people who just work in the centre but don't live there.

There is a petition but it’s run by B first, people put their feelings first unfortunately so it hasn’t gained much traction outside of the real patriots of this country.

I was at wembly on Monday &first time in London for 20 years it’s like a foreign country.
I was in Wembley in May and I agree, I felt like I was in some black country far away from Britain and I felt very uncomfortable never again will I go to that 💩 hole…. Its not my capital city

The Queen richly deserves a memorial on the scale of the Queen Victoria Memorial. But Trafalgar Square is all about the Royal Navy so it is only fitting to mount a statue there to celebrate Britain's naval blockade of the Atlantic slave trade and commemorate the thousands of sailors who lost their lives pursuing this noble cause !!

The 4th plinth is not big enough for the queens statue! We need a much bigger one similar to the victoria monument. May I suggest that we place it on grounds of the mayors offices.

Her Late beloved Majesty needs more than a statue I think whole building or monument. Not a bridge, or a tube line, but a monument like the Albert hall, something permanent and historic and a place where joy lives with a regal statue in front. I thought about the plinth idea and it’s I just thought honestly it’s not good enough for Her contribution to our country and history , I think we have an even higher regard and could do better. I hope one day there is a rally powerful permanent statue or memorial for us all to show how much this nation ( and the world) loved their Queen.

The fourth plinth should be used for people of historical interest to the UK on a rotational basis and that includes our Queen. Shouldn't be left up to people with a political agender.

When you see the statues to Queen Victoria putting the statue of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar square is not giving her the honour she deserves! She should be given something far grander and much more conspicuous!
