I lived in London in the 80s and as a female I frequently walked to places and never had a problem. It is very sad to see its current demise.
I remember when it was safe to take a walk in a London park. At night.

Regular visitor to London was there to see the Abba voyage show 5/6 weeks ago couldn’t believe the state of the place near Stratford both me and my wife agreed last visit, so sad🤷♂️
So much nicer than it used to be. Can’t even compare. Same with King’s Cross. Ten times nicer nowadays. I don’t like Stratford. Play padel there sometimes. Even rich kids moved there now , into those large apartment blocks. .

Besides these kids knives are about 3 feet long and sharp as a razor and they’re hacking each other up in the town centre. The place is almost a no go zone, filled with people from all different countries, empty shops and homeless in doorways…. and we’re just a small town

I went with my wife last year for a visit to London and it was our 4th night there before we heard a southern accent so it is undeniably not the city people once knew,and for many the change is definitely not for the better.

I have lived in London since the late seventies also in different areas and there were still plenty of "safe" areas . It started to change late 1990s under the wretched Blair .
at 8 i used to run around on red bus rovers in 77
I tramped the streets with my mate when we were 14/15 and it was safe sleeping out, wandering around. If anything, people wanted to buy us a cup of tea, etc.
People generally still don’t feel unsafe. It’s an online thing. Fearmongers everywhere. Also too much UA-cam makes people fear.

I moved to London - Ladbroke Grove in the mid 1980's. Coming back from pubs or from my mates after 11pm. The only people to be worried about were the police doing a stop and search

Strange, I have lived in London for the last 8 years and never experienced the level of fear others have expressed. I go out where ever I want.
All over the UK people arw angry and rude in other uk cities and towns and lots of racism and segregation issues too.

I went to Liverpool once in the 80s. It was beautiful and really nice people.
Newcastle is not as bad as London at this moment in time but it is without doubt making a massive attempt to catch up and all the signs are it is only a few years before we match the capital.
