Now that I've finally pushed out to 1000 yards i am even more impressed with your skills. I shoot at a target roughly 6 feet by 3 feet and here you guys are shooting at that tiny target. Very impressive effort
The plate is about the size of the V bull so it's like my thinking that if it isn't a V it's a miss. I'm more impressed that the 223 was not only reaching the target but actually hitting it.
Awesome video guys, you have really motivated me into the ELR arena. When those 223 hits were achieved I was elated at the possibilities. WOW, Well done!
The trend has been toward shorter barrels and lighter chassis, stocks, etc. You demonstrate how to maximize a particular cartridge at distance. Very well done !
Great shooting guys. I hope the long range hunters watch this and understand how hard it is to hit a 6"×6" area even with some of the best equipment, handloads, and I would say two of the most competent shooters out there today. I love the 308. The stock, fluted barrel, brake, bipod, scope. Everything about that rifle just flows together. Great looking rifle. 👍
Good on you Sam, it's nice to see you shooting. Judging by your skill you do a lot more shooting than what we see. The teamwork between you both is heart warming.
Excellent shooting. I shot a lot of 308 (7.62 x 51) with an FN-FAL during my military service, i got myself a Savage chambered in .223 a good few years ago which exceeded my expectations and is so much more enjoyable to shoot and very accurate.
Just this week I had opportunity to shoot my 223 handloads out to 1100 yards. 77gr SMK over Varget 2575fps. ~8mph 270° wind. What I learned (some of which I knew but hadn't experienced).. 1. At these longer distances WIND reading is a must 2. At these longer distances velocity helps big time 3. 223 at distance drops BIGTIME 200,300,400,500 VERY easy... 1100 VERY hard. 20 shots at 1100 with 4 impacts and 7 close (couple feet). 9 shots no visual
I like how the .223 just shakes the target upon impact. Where as the .308 causes the target to walk back. That really shows the effectiveness of the heavier bullets once they slow down to subsonic speed compared to the lighter ones.
Guessing 1/4" / 6mm plate since it is so far away, the projectiles are less powerful than handgun ammo. At 770yds 77smk hardly does any trick to my 1/2" / 12mm plate. Smart move to ease spotting the impacts with the 223.
My 223rem Tikka just got sent off Thursday to get my new proof barrel installed, only been waiting 11 months for it to come in but hopefully by next weekend I can go figure out a load for it. Mark and Sam as always, love the vid🤙
As a new shooter all I heard was .223 was only good out to 500 (ish) yards. I agree with you...800 yards is doable for sure...maybe not ideal..but certainly doable
Great video comparison of the 223 vs. 308. Sam did a great job with getting a hit on her first shot. She seems like she would be a challenger in a long range competition. The entire target and stand moving from the impact of the 308 was pure awesomeness. Job well done.
Always say “you two impress me with not only your skills, but they love and respect you have not only for one another but when you have your (take on event videos) towards others.” God did let Paul and the others to think of others above themselves and you are a good example of that teaching.
All of your videos are awesome. Real masters at your craft. But I really liked seeing the rifle/optic/ammo details at the beginning of this one. If ya all use such equipment, I can consider it good enough for me without hours of homework 😏
Amazed that you could push a .223 /5.56 round, that far ! Ok The Sako Varminter is an awesome rifle, irrespective of caliber, most people will be using the m 16 types, and then the accuracy drops, in the average shooter to 400 - 500 yards ! Well Done, especially on such a blustery day !
Six by Six at nearly 1100 yards with two underrated cartridges (for this range)... Great shooting by the best team out there, thanks for this! Just out of curiosity (I haven't read through the comments yet to see if it's answered already), do you think the 175gr .308 would do better out of a faster twist barrel? It's so much fun watching you two work together, thank you for putting the extra effort into sharing all of this with us!
Your Marksmanship is always impressive, but watch out cause Sam's a grass cutter. Great fun to watch you two compete with one another. Keep the ELR videos coming - we support you!
Somehow this was more impressive than the the big-cal ELR stuff. Ha ha. I guess it's just more relatable. I'd be lucky to get 2/5 on a 12inch. Nice work guys!
By shooting from the top of that hill, the wind deflection would be at its greatest. Was that deliberate?😊 Surprised to see the very good MV of the 223 with that barrel length.👍
Hello! I’m actually considering building my wife a .223AI. Any thoughts on the cartridge, or should I just stick with .223? As always thanks for the excellent content and the best ELR channel on UA-cam!
Question Mark, you guys are always shooting down hill. Does gravity have an effect on BULLET trajectory. Maybe you can do a talk about that subject. Thanks Dan
Excellent shooting, Sir, and Excellent spotting, Ma'am! A question about your stand if I may. Have you ever posted plans and/or construction on your target frame for your hanging targets? I'd be keen to fabricate one or two for myself and shooting friends when we go out. I'm pretty sure I can find suitable target materials locally, assuming it is a lighter weight (i.e. thinner AR500 plate considering the ranges being fired from). You make me aspire to being a better long distance shooter whenever I watch your videos. Thank you for your time and efforts.
You guys make that look a heck of a lot easier than it really is. Well done!!! Thanks!!
Thanks man, glad you liked, Cheers

I've been wanting to see the .223 reach. Nice!
Cheers Man, thanks
The both of you are so much fun to watch. Tell my friends to watch all the time. Keep it going.
Cheers Doug, thanks man
For two people to be confident enough at that range to keep a camera that close in cold bore! Is simply awesome
Cheers
Loved this one! My wife and I used to shoot a 22 or at pennies and she would beat me every time. That was in 1970.
Awesome, glad you liked, Billy, Cheers
Always enjoy watching the two of you. Thank you
Thanks Lawrence
Wow, Nice shooting. Great to see those two calibers in action. Very impressive set ups and skills 💯
Thanks Jason
I am amazed at the performance of the .223. Nice job Sam.
Thanks Gary
Lots of fun for sure. Like the format for this video. Duelling calibers.
Cheers Man, thanks
People always underestimate the mighty little .223 as a long range target round.

Really enjoying this video format of seeing both Mark and Sam shooting and spotting! Wishing you guys all the best in 2022!

Yep, Cheers
Yeah, spotting bullet strike is a BIG problem, especially as you get to longer range. That’s what really makes it hard with the lighter calibres.
ill take the 308 any day
Great shooting!!! You guys make it look so easy. Thanks for the fantastic video!!!
Thanks Man, Cheers
Good video 👍👍, Thanks Mark , Sam!!
Cheers
"Yeah, I can do that! Too easy!"
Damn, nice shooting! I wish I was that good. Best I ever did was a 94, small bore (.22LR) target 20m prone.
Cheers Man, thanks
I did not know the 223 carried enough energy at over 1000 yards to flip a plate like that! Fantastic shooting on both counts!
Guessing 1/4" / 6mm plate since it is so far away, the projectiles are less powerful than handgun ammo. At 770yds 77smk hardly does any trick to my 1/2" / 12mm plate.

Excellent! Nice shooting by both of you. Find it interesting that your MOA's were almost identical verti and identical wind. Thank you for this.
Yep, set up like these they have almost identical scope settings, Cheers
Mark/Sam.

Its amazing what you can do with the little tiny .223 cartridge. Same goes for the short stubby .308 👍🙏✌

Great pick of calibers! Lots of people will enjoy this..... WillyB ps. Great shooting, Sam!!!

Thanks Man, Cheers
Just as fun as the big rifles. Nice shooting guys, cheers!
Yep, cheers Mike, thanks
Good stuff. Very impressed with the performance on the .223 Rem. I think when the 22" 1:9 barrel on my .223 goes I'll move to 1:8
Thanks Mike
@@markandsamafterwork Pleasure! Please keep the great content coming!
My ar15 has a 1:8 barrel and that thing is heavy

I love watching.223 & .308 I know its crap but such a common round for other rifles in the combat realm.

Folks don’t let the dang weather keep them from shooting. Guess I need not stress the west Texas wind so much
Lol, Cheers Brandon, all the best.
Just wow, that's roughly 155mm target. And it feels hard even at 300m with 22lr
Cheers Man, all the best.
I remember when they used to call "limited distance ELR" just "long range"
6" target at over a thousand yards, just long range?
By shooting from the top of that hill, the wind deflection would be at its greatest. Was that deliberate?😊 Surprised to see the very good MV of the 223 with that barrel length.👍

can you do 243 vs 6mm creedmoor battle of the 6mm old vs new great video as always
Well really very little difference, as explained in past video, more about all the other details, Cheers
Should shoot a 22-250 as well, basically a 223 with a 308 case as a middle ground comparison. Just a thought. Cheers
