      Sounds as though he’s being honest.
      Just some constructive criticism to you Rob, when speaking with someone who’s expressing severe life difficulties, try not to respond with “shit” or “fuck” consistently.

      @@BridgeStamford I started at 18, and gave up at 34. Honestly never thought I would ever be able to do it, but I did. My advice to YOU is give up today, now, and start to rack up that time between playing and not playing, that's the key. As someone who left it 8 years ago, I have zero thoughts of going back to it anymore. The only thoughts I have are of how stupid I was for getting myself into that vicious circle in the first. Today is your day mate, I promise you that the buzz in the pit of your stomach that makes you keep going back will die away if you let it...🤞

    Rob, you did it again; brilliant interview with a wonderfully honest man and you led him to some painful places in his life.
    Just like you did with the amazing Paul Gascgoine. You make this old bloke teary often in your interviews!
    Thank you for your many interviews and giving these wonderful people all the time they need to answer questions.
    You have a skill there.
    After so many interviews you should be!
    There are many tragic stories among the past generations of football players and other sports stars. I bet you would have got a great interview with the likes of Alex Higgins and George Best (among others).
    I know you have some opinions about mental health (despite your own dad’s bipolar) that I don’t totally agree with, but when you ask leading questions and let the guest open up you do it without judgement and with the respect they deserve.
    Keep it up Rob.

But it's better than the highs and lows of being addicted. Time eventually will heal gradually over time if you stay the course of recovery. Just don't quit quitting and refuse to die what ever happens. Keep trying folks til you suceed.

    It's very interesting what he says about gambling being different, how with drinking or smoking, you just have to NOT put that thing in your body. I have been a smoker and a boozer, but never a gambler, and I can see that's an interesting way to look at it - with drinking for example, you know that you just have to get through today without drinking alcohol. It's that simple, just don't put that thing in your body. But gambling..........where does it start? Where does it stop? You're not doing anything to yourself physically. If you're addicted, the only thing that could get you to stop, is if you have no money left. Not a good system for a successful life, that you're only free if you're permanently penniless.

    Very interesting and honest interview. I’ve always admired Merse for wearing his heart on his sleeve. That said advising Matt Le Tissier that it’s “not clever to be clever” re: speaking out, was cowardly. Not the best move there

    I can totally relate. I am known in my area as having been the most degenerate gambler for over two decades. I even had cards from casino's that the casino owner's did not say existed. VIP platinum cards which allowed me to eat for free whatever I wanted, drink for free, go to the F1, go backstage at concerts, etc. There were only about 100 of those cards in roulation. And they don't give them to big winners, but to the biggest losers. I lost everything I held dear to gambling and the depression and (social) anxiety it brought along. I can't take full blame for it, because when my parents divorced when I was 6 and my dad moved abroad. My mom took me to pubs where they had slot machines and because my mom knew the owners, I was allowed to play on them from early on. My mom was playing cards, and I was on my own gambling as a little kid. And it didn't stop until my life was in ruins. I haven't gambled in almost 4 years now. But I'm still picking up the pieces of my life. I highly doubt I will ever be happy again, because not only did I lose most of my money, my business, house, etc. I also lost my 2 wonderful kids (to my ex who is far worse than I am, still gambles, still does drugs) and lost my family as well. Love is the meaning of life, and having no one to love, or to be loved, makes you lose all purpose and hope. I have been in talks with 'painless path' to end my life. One day I want the suffering to end, the other day I want to fight to get my kids back. I am definitely not well... Sorry for my epistle. I wish you all a lovely, carefree and gambling free day.

    • @hornby396
      @hornby396 2 роки тому +1

      4 years mate, keep that going, life isn't necessarily about being 'happy' anyway, you've still got loads to offer the world, fight for your kids and make it your life's work to ensure they have a good quality of life and avoid the problems you had

    • @BradleyCoopertest
      @BradleyCoopertest 2 роки тому +1

      @@hornby396 Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate that. I do want to be there for my kids. Haven't seen them in over a year and that is devastating. But as you said, I want to ensure they have a good life and don't fall into the same traps as I did. Even if I am just a footnote in the wonderful book that is their lives, I would like to leave a mark and show them how much they mean to me and how loved they are. Have a wonderful day.

Please, please, please do some bloody research and In time you might realise 'your friend' was only trying to make you aware of evils at play.

    I think it's something people are born with....the addictive personality, if it's not drink or drugs or gambling they will find something else....could be food or whatever.....my dad was an alcoholic and it ruined our childhood, I personally see it as an illness as it should be treated as such....

    Gambling is the pits it's relentless over and over again ,you won't win you can't win with the geez they only give a sprinkling of favs ,and then they mainly throw up winners for the bookies ,but for an elite sportsman like this there's no doubt gambling will have held him back and spoiled his career ,which was pretty good but could of been so much better ,all respect to you Paul for sharing the shit with us mate 😂
