FOMO is real. The emotional ties you have in India are stretched to the breaking point. Your family in India will love you forever. But your ability to love them back is cut down drastically. Reason is simple. America prizes "outer work", such as productivity, performance, outcomes, GDP growth, material upward mobility. Immigrants have to work twice as hard as Americans born here, to have same chances for promotions in job. There are southern states, where there is belief that unless you are white, you may have nothing of importance to say or contribute. But America does give you, freedom to experience and expand personal power. This is the power to become individual in your own right. If that is your burning goal, then being here can be pleasurable, at least in one phase of life.
