I'm getting very (very) leery of using media mail, aka "Free Shipping!" on online record purchases. Sure it's cheaper, but it's more days sitting in a hot truck with who knows what leaned up against it. No thanks, if I'm paying $$ for an album, I'll pay a few dollars more to have it sent via Priority Mail or better. I've reached out to sellers and told them look I want the record but I'm not using media mail. Most of the time they will change the listing, especially if they know I'm serious and will pay for the upcharge in shipping. I have had two online "auction" style purchases arrive warped. Both times they were immediately refunded and handled with utmost professionalism, so can't complain about them. Would have rather had the records arrive safely, though.

@@tomwebb7091 So, I'll return them until I get a good one. One, two, three, four times? I don't give a fuck. If you accept subpar quality and don't return records which shouldn't have been in the condition they're in, the sellers have no incentive to confront the plants and thus the plants have no reason whatsoever to get their shit together.

As long as the record grooves are not compromised from the hot air. Contact with glass might not be the safest for record grooves. There are specialty record straighteners available, but such might not come cheap. There are always risks in flattening records.

There is a product called Vinyl Flat that I've been using for a few years now. Works wonderfully and does not break the bank. It's basically a couple heavy metal plates and some felts and works best with the heat pouch (costs extra). I have flattened, literally, a few hundred records with it. Some take longer than others and varying levels of heat & time but it works! Look it up. My friends send me their records to flatten and I'd rather they do that than go through the hassle of returning stuff.

Zombiecraft, Upright records? Ahh…that’s just an urban legend…lol 😉 Yes, that is true about stacking records, but…its more apt to warp if ya leave a pile of like 20+ em horizontally, a few might warp over time depending on certain circumstances, especially the climate, and if they’re directly on top of each other and hanging over one another, etc.
I’m talking about taking like 1 - 5 records horizontally directly on top of each with equal pressure across the top, and paying attention to how long they’re like that. I check em every few days or so, but it usually takes about a week or two. Been doing that for 30+ plus yrs. I recently got a deal on some super rare old punk records cuz they were warped. Every single one is flat now.
      Have a good one! ✌️🔊🎶😊

Its not the formula that causes warps but crap formula is going to be noisier in terms of background. The problem today is theres but a handful of plants and increasing demands with a pandemic thrown into the mix. Plants are pressing as quick as they can which is in almost all cases means a massive lowering of pressing quality. For sure 180g vinyl is pointless, only seems to increase the chances of warps and non fills. Some plants are great like Record Industry of Holland. Some are awful like MPO, GZ Media and United Record Pressing. Dont get me started on old Rainbo either lol

Likewise you can get rid of ring wear on sleeves by using the natural minerals in fresh water. Fill a spray bottle from a natural source like a pond or creek, unfiltered city tap water can work in a pinch, and lightly mist the record sleeves. Then leave them in a dark moderately warm place for a week or two, the corner of a basement or cupboard underneath a kitchen sink work good, and when you pull them out they'll look almost like new.

Vest way is to put your records (in there sleeves) in the airing cupboard. Place them on a wider than they are flat surface with microwave plate on top and place books on them. Wait a a few hours and you'll be back to normal. Rushing the process can make it worse, I personally would not recommend a hair dryer and definitely do not use an iron.

This is a terrible idea! Any source of heat hot enough to pass through the thickness of the record is more than hot enough to deform the extremely delicate grooves of the record. To flatten a warp that goes through the thickness of the record means heating the vinyl to a to a temperature that is hot enough for the vinyl to be pliable! Record grooves are so delicate that this much heat is going to destroy the sound of your record. Record Pressing machines not only heat the vinyl, then stamp/imprint the vinyl, they also have a cooling system that cools the imprinted vinyl setting the image.

You would have to be returning a helluva lot of records because 90% of records now have some sort of warp. Rarely do you get a pringle like here. Often you get what looks like this "fixed" one here ie warped but playable. If its like that and on center and free of non fill it dont need returning. Some warps are high frequency ie the record looks flat on the edge but the playing surface is rippled and thus the needle jiggles abit causing LF cone flap and rumbles

bad idea, anytime you heat a record enough that you can flatten it you will have also heated it enough that the grooves can be damaged by the pressure on them as well. I've known idiots that tried this type of thing and ended up with a record even worse than what they started with. You are much better off simply getting a high quality turntable and adjusting the weight of the tone arm so it doesn't skip.

As I said in my previous post, none of my over a thousand CDs has ever been a problem and some of them I have played, without a lie, over a thousand times and they still sound as good as new. Actually they sound better than new as my equipment has improved ove the decades. Did you do anything to your CDs like shave off the edges or put a green marker on the edge? I mention these two things because they were supposed to make CDs sound better (they didn't)...
As for physical media for music, you may be right in the short term, but I fear that lack of popularity may eventually lead to the demise of both CDs and vinyl.

How many are we talking about and approximately what percentage of your collection is it?
I used to work in a Hi Fi shop and I know a little bit about how CD players work and what can go wrong with them and I'd like to help if I can. Vinyl records only work well as a Frisbee if you put a decent lip around the edge but if you sharpen the edge, they are very effective weapons! 😆
