When i rented Ghost Pilots back in the day, i was convinced the game was bonkers. Once the game is out of projectiles, it throws enemy aircrafts your way on a massive scale. And all of that results in very unpleasant slowdown. It's like the game has a hate boner for you. Anyway, great vid dude. Much appreciated!
Loving the frequency of reviews. Keep it up buddy. I personally have only 3 shooters. Prehistoric isle 2, last resort and alpha mission 2. And I'm happy with those. I did come close to buying ghost pilots a few times.

Ghost Pilots is a game I've kinda wanted to give a shot on the eShop for a while now, but I just can't get myself to buy it. Seems I was right not to, as Strikers 1945 plus is easily the better game... Maybe would be a fun buy for a co-op afternoon, but otherwise I'm better elsewhere it seems. And Puzzled... Now that's a game I did buy, and even on $4 sale it's one I regret. Definitely curious to see how you look at that one, as it just feels like a ripoff that's bad.
Man I had to say I actually really enjoy this game. Its a mediocre shooter but, the fact the the neogeo become so one note with mostly fighting games its nice that the earlier years had some diversity in genres.
Most shooters uses some form of jets, unless the game setting requires an old war era prop plane like the P-38. But seaplanes, come on, this thing couldn't move any slower, on top of having a huge hit box It was also unusually long for a shooter, 12 stages is not a game one can finish on a lunch break, some of the later stages just goes on and on. The rate of fire is also an issue, in the arcades this required you to tap the fire button furiously just to keep up a stream of fire, a very tiring affair. What's more, some of the players that normally plays one of the fighting games would get upset because these shooter players were tapping the button too hard and worn it out too fast
I have to admit Alec. Ghost Pilots is a fun and tough game, but it felt more like a Genesis title for me. I remember playing it and loved it. Still do to this very day. Nice work as always bro. 8^) Anthony..
Boss tank descriptions give me a mix of Professor Farnsworth getting particularly unhinged, then a reminder that "oh yeah, the nazis really did design a lot of insane, impractical tanks in WW2 that didn't go past prototypes."

In my opinion, Puzzled is based on a good concept but it's insanely HARD and waaaAAAaay too long, plus the 2 players mode offer no interaction an the fact that the pieces rotate only clockwise is beyond me. There's a huge lack of balance in the gameplay. I'm curious to hear what Alec has to say about it, always intersting reviews !

I honestly like this game even though there are better shooters on the Neo Geo like Last Resort, Pulstar and Sonic Wings. It reminds me a bit of Twin Cobra which is my favorite game on the Genesis, but instead of helicopters its got planes. Its not perfect at all no doubt about that and the movement speed is crap, but I'm used to Neo Geo games being difficult or borderline unfair so I'm ok with it. Just be sure to use a turbo controller with this one, firing speed being based on how much you mash the A button is kind of annoying. I can understand and respect why anyone wouldn't like it though so I won't argue with anyone about that. :)
The one time in my life that I had a chance to play on a real Neo Geo AES It was this game. At the time I thought it was really cool but now I kinda of view it as sort of a shitty Flying Shark knock off.
It's a minor point, but is this the only plane shooter where the player aircraft are seaplanes? If so, that's kind of a standout feature. Utterly ridiculous - seaplane were most used for recon and SAR ops rather than combat - but an unusual touch.
I'm sure it was because they were pushing their home console really hard, and wanted the game to work with consumer TV's without rotating them. You're right though, it probably would've been a better game if it used a vertical screen orientation.

I don't know enough about the Neo-Geo to confidently assert much, but for even just the arcade-side, you'd have to release Tate specific or Tate Capable MVS cabinets and that likely conflicted with the idea of this monolithic-but-modular cartridge arcade system that you're trying to get arcade owners to invest in. I guess with the production nature of the Neo-Geo library, you couldn't guarantee filling out a vertical screen MVS cabinet early on and that would kill adoption. I dunno :)
I’m glad I skipped this game. Judging from me watching the gameplay, it IS indeed underwhelming! Worst part is: there was a poster of this game for sale in Neo-Geo catalogues. It’s not really good in my eyes. I really don’t like the music in this with the same drum sample from Super Spy! With how overused it is, I think it’s worse than Sonic 1 & 2’s “POP!” Drum sample. At least those games drum samples somewhat had charm.
