So these houses are worth about $400,000 . A house like that in England would cost about 1,000,000

I moved from a nice area in the UK to a nice area in the US and I can tell you the cost difference was massive. I would say it would cost more than a million to have a house like that in the UK. Remember these houses would be in very nice towns/cities in the US.
In the UK the majority of cities are dumps with a few exceptions.

depends on the location, in los angeles they would be around a million as well. but in some parts of the us - ie kansas - they can be as cheap as 250,000.

If you live in the UK you should look to moving out of that hole. I done it over 20 years ago and it was the best decision I have every made.
In the right cities you can buy houses for 200,000 that will be like 500,000 to 700,000 in the UK. What you have to factor into this is the cities/towns that these houses are in.
America is full of small wealthy towns like Harrogate in north Yorkshire but the difference with the US towns is that houses can be had from 200,000 to 500,000 that would easily cost from 500,000 to 2,000,000 in Harrogate.

In California, a neighbourhood like this would probably look a little different (Spanish-styled, much nicer in my opinion), however, these homes would probably cost around $800,000 in the LA area, and even more in San Francisco. However, in Texas or Oklahoma or Kansas any state with a few fast-growing new cities these houses would be very affordible and typical. $200,000-$500,000 depending on the city and specific neighbourhood probably in Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, NW Arkansas, etc

This is an upper middle class suburban home builder community most likely in the Eastern USA. Construction is of wood frame with brick veneer fronts, vinyl siding, asphalt roofing, mid to lower grade vinyl or aluminum windows, and builder stock interior finishes. Large spaces are favorable over quality materials. This is typical construction of the pre-housing crash of the last decade. This type of community, while still popular with older Americans, or those with children, is not as popular with younger professionals where the trend is moving towards urban condo units or smaller homes in or closer to urban areas.

Actually Americans living in places like this do not get dirty shoes. They get into their car from a paved parking lot or covered garage, drive home and park inside their garage. When they mow the lawn they never touch dirt (or mow when it is raining). In fact, they don't do a lot of walking at all.

Here in Philippines if you live in the suburbs, your house might probably be near highways and chaotic streets. We dont have that kind of suburbs here where green and wide lawns and peaceful backyard, thats what I envy about the U.S: their suburbs and perfectly designed urban planning. Here in Philippines almost everything is expensive thats why we dont have much that kind of houses here.

The US national average home size is 2,600 Sq ft. (242 m²) The US has the world's largest homes on average. Australia was no.1 until recently. But it is now supposedly a very close 2nd. Then Canada is no.3, with the rest of the world averaging home sizes considerably smaller than Canada.

+Yougo Glencoco The average American home is 2,600 Sq ft. And was even in the news recently about the US having the biggest homes.
      money.cnn.com/2014/06/04/real_estate/american-home-size/
At 2,598 Sq ft that makes the American home 241 Sq meters. As of a 2013 census.
And it grew again in 2014 to just shy of 2,700 Sq ft. And the Median average is 2,500 Sq ft.
      www.aei.org/publication/todays-new-homes-are-1000-square-feet-larger-than-in-1973-and-living-space-per-person-has-doubled-over-last-41-years/
Both Australia and the US have been in near statistical ties for home size for years. With the rest of the world behind us. But the US reigns supreme compared to Australia when it comes down to sherr infrastructure size. ^_~
But then again the US has a bigger population to serve as well without any space limitations to build it.
      :D

    • @michaelcason728

Actually size has leveled off and recent trends (talking northern Virginia) show sales increasing for smaller size urban developments over larger size suburban units.

    • @waycoolscootaloo
      @waycoolscootaloo 8 років тому +1

+Michael Cason Yeah. OK I see what your saying. But on a national level the average home is still growing and hit a new record size of 2,500 Sq ft. (Median average) The mean was roughly 2,700 Sq ft.
But yes in some places homes have averaged smaller. By me there getting bigger. But a 1 hour drive from me homes (very slowly I might add are trending smaller with more folks moving to the city. However some of those high rises have now become bigger them selves as more luxurious accommodations have become more popular.
      So it all depends.

Typical asking price in 2014 for one of these houses is $425,000 (see www.zillow.com/homedetails/35572-Lee-Dr-Round-Hill-VA-20141/68460071_zpid/). Usually the family buying such a house would be trading up, so they will have a larger down payment. Collectively the husband and wife would need to pay about $2,000 a month in mortgage, tax and HOA fees. If they rented, that is what they would pay in rent, but would build no equity. That would make the family middle class, with a collective income of about $100-125,000 a year.
The Typical owner is described by Zillow as: Rat Racers
    -Dual-income suburban families.
These married couples with children lead very busy lives, with most bringing in two paychecks per household. Education level varies from high school to college.
So, no they are not millionaires. They are families carrying high debt and entirely dependent on their jobs to live there. Their house is bigger (McMansion) on a small lot made of cheap materials, lacking any distinctive character and highly vulnerable to the cost of commuting (i.e. when gas prices rise.)
To quote Zillow: The median home value in Round Hill is $435,300. Round Hill home values have gone up 11.0% over the past year and Zillow predicts they will rise 2.1% within the next year. The median list price per square foot in Round Hill is $191, which is lower than theWashington Metro average of $212. The median price of homes currently listed in Round Hill is $529,000 while the median price of homes that sold is $355,000. The median rent price in Round Hill is $2,200, which is higher than the Washington Metromedian of $1,899.

In answer to imthecoffee: Wikipedia: In American suburban communities, McMansion is a pejorative for a type of large, new luxury house which is judged to be oversized for the parcel or incongruous for its neighborhood. Alternatively, a McMansion can be a large, new house in a subdivision of similarly large houses, which all seem mass-produced and lacking in distinguishing characteristics, as well as appearing at odds with the traditional local architecture.[1]

i know everyone says how big they are but in my opinion, can be boring if you are in a town without nothing to do ,it is more like farm i think europ is more more fun.even when in europ people live in small houses and apartments. in Europe you take a plane and in 1 hour you are in a diferent country , you can experience different cultures .history ,food but if you are in the usa
take a plane and in 8 h you are still in usa ,wooden houses ,big houses booooooring nothing to do too new , dificult to smell culture and history
even living there i think people can be more superficial and materialistic.but thats just my opinion not offence

We have ALOT of MAJOR cities and different terrains we have deserts beaches , mountains , and forests LITERALLY everything is in the USA its so big and vast it varies from where you go ! just from my point of view people in the us don’t seem to care about europe and usually just shrug it off and or laugh about how small and dirty it is but i actually like europe its beautiful especially france and the uk 🇬🇧 love from the USA 🇺🇸❤️

it is a suburban neighborhood. houses are cheaply made and can be built with in days. most of these houses will be found in a part of the us where there is alot of tornadoes, earthquakes, ect. like in california. thats why the makers spend the most time making the front than any part of the house. if a natural disaster were to happen another house could be built fast and cheaply.

American poverty is just a myth.
America does not really have welfare like a lot of other countries and that is the reason there are people that are failures. In other countries people can be on welfare for life with no hope of escape.
There will always be screw ups no matter what country you go to. Only other countries have a tendency to hide them out of the way. In Europe they segregate them into social housing and a lot of these people are working.

    • @lifejourney1661
      @lifejourney1661 8 років тому

bighands69, that´s not true! I am from Germany and rich and poorer people live together. People do not need to live in social housing, the government pays for their housing if they are unemployed and those houses can be anywhere. What I understand from social housing here is that if you want to move into an apartment in certain buildings, you have to have less than 10,000 Euro a year and then you can move in. Since we are students, we were allowed to move in. It´s a very nice apartment in the middle of the city .. so it´s not like in a ghetto. I´ve seen way worse accomodation in the US and you still have to pay a lot of money, where I pay 300 dollars here and it´s beautiful

Don't believe it. There is a lot of poverty in the USA. Especially in rural areas and consisting of many single parents and children. • @bighands69

Wooden framing has been used since Medieval times and there are still wooden framed houses standing from that period.

These homes are made out of a timber frame (2x4 with a plywood sheathing) clad in vinyl siding and perhaps one side of some with a brick veneer (not the same as a real brick wall). Foundations are concrete, shutters are fake. At $450,000 average, these would either be affordable by a family with a joint income of about $120,000 a year, or a family trading up, having a larger down payment. In Northern Virginia with both parents working, this would classify as middle class, probably working for the US government. These would be close to "McMansions", a derogatory term for large homes on small lots.
