Thankyou Gentlemen. "Orthodoxiology" sounds strange, but it's a very logical and proper (plastic-photonic, charismatic-plasmatic, cosmological-, I'll be it absurd while Greek) compound Verb! 🙂 Nice dual "Just Do It..." Nika Olypic shoes...We wish you good strength and God's blessings dear brethren!

@@danielvanorden230 I would hesitate to say that starting and having a conversation leads inevitably to heresy and compromise. Think of literally every single ecumenical council and why they were called. Consider all the theological writings of the patristics, who struggled long and hard to develop the deep theology of the Church, including Maximus the Confessor, him commenting on and correcting Gregory of Nyssa, etc.
What makes people think that this process has suddenly, magically come to a halt? The Church is still God-breathed and still has a responsibility to speak to its current and pressing issues, just as it always has.

What are the main parallels and differences between Orthodox and Catholic theology?

Well we believe in theoria and not scholasticism. We also believe in hesychasm and Divine Essence/Energy of God.

St. Maximus the Confessor, rejecting an Origenistic interpretation of apocatastasis, explains that St. Gregory of Nyssa used this term in sense of the restoration of the powers of the soul to the condition in which they were before the fall, as well as in the sense of the common Resurrection.
However St Maximus characteristically says, that St Gregory of Nyssa makes exaggerated use of the term apocatastasis in sense of the restoration of the powers of the soul to the condition in which they were before the fall! It is not an error, but he developed it more than he should!
The 8th chapter of the book "Life after death" by Met. Hierotheos Vlachos clarifies that the teaching of St Gregory of Nyssa concerning the restoration of all things differs clearly from the view of the restoration of all things which we find in ancient philosophy and the Origenist conception, that the Fifth Ecumenical Council condemned.

I had that book and this other one called Gregory of nyssa and universal salvation. Both books contradict eachother the Life after death Orthodox book claims Gregory doesnt teach universal salvation while the other book compared Gregory to a Roman catholic theologian that held to a hopeful universalist position. That demonstrated Gregory did argue for universal salvation.

In the book "Life after death", Metropolitan Hierotheos Vlachos attempted to express the Orthodox view on St Gregory's theological thesis!
Metropolitan's attempt is successful, because it's simply compatible with the Orthodox tradition and Faith!

@@thBrilliantFool Just from the basics I've heard of Jay reading from the Early Church Fathers, I can think of a few differences:
      1. ECFs argue for the essence-energy distinction in contrast to the monad/absolute divine simplicity.
      2. ECFs explicitly state that they are using different definitions for some existing words and clearly state why and how they are different. I have not personally read all of the ECFs or their material, but they put the Simpsons to shame for having covered the full spectrum of topics.
      3. "Logos" as used in all forms of Platonism is not a person, and is instead some impersonal, abstract set of rules or governing principles. Orthodoxy has been consistent in affirming that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the 2nd Person of the Holy Trinity, is the Logos and became incarnate. This means Orthodoxy does not fall into the common traps of Platonism which lead to, e.g., individual experience being irrelevant or a sideshow of reality, at best being reduced to a partially-blind observer of shadows of reality.

@@thBrilliantFool emjs opinion is that Musliums have the same God as Christian's that pretty disqualifies him from having any relevant opinion once again it's the flaw about ADS looking for a generic all encompassing diety instead of the True God who is The Father Son and Holy Spirit.
