Bob Graham Round record holder Billy Bland shares his memories of that day and his top 3 tips for your successful Bob Graham Round.
The Bob Graham Round is a now famous 65mile route of 42 Lake District summits within 24hours, first run as a birthday challenge by Keswick guest-house owner Bob Graham in 1932 when he was 42 years old, hence the same number of peaks.
Billy's record of 13hrs 53mins from 1982 is now 35 years old so I took the opportunity to interview this 70 year old fell running legend from Borrowdale, Cumbria, at the Inov8 Fell Running Evening at Kendal Mountain Festival 2017.

Just met him today as we walked passed his house, back to Rossthwaite and our hotel. The most lovely, unassuming man who is now 71. He wasn’t bragging, we simply were asking the right questions. He told us that he had just been knocked off his perch by a Spanish guy. He still holds the Wasdale horseshoe. Nov 2018.

With a 'never give in' attitude Billy was always a darned difficult to beat in any race and one of the best ever at downhill fell running. Good advice on this recording for any aspiring fell runner.
