  • Hello! Today I'm finally defining my style! I came across Allison's 3-word method last year, and I've been ruminating over the idea ever since. Distilling my style into three words has helped me stop spending money, time, and energy on clothing that doesn't make me feel confident and like myself. Have you heard of this method? Do you know your 3 words? What are they? Let us know in the comments. Take care!

    I watched Alyssa’s, Allison’s and your 3-word
videos. For me, I don’t like it. In some sense it’s too squidgy and in others too limiting. Every outfit has to include oversized, fitted, and warm? That’s more like an outfit formula than a style. I would say I think Alyssa is brilliant at selecting style that 💯 woks for her, but terrible at describing what it is. “Classic” is way too broad (as she’s using it), and in terms of silhouette, her look is not classic at all. She was showing these white dresses that looked fussy on her and decided it was because they were not ‘minimal’ but in fact they were too feminine for her, and the dress she loved was not ‘minimal,’ that’s a buzzword. It was dramatic, straight instead of curved, a bit stiff instead of billowy. Anyway I agree that you look amazing in sharp shoulders, pointy shoes, and also agree about you gravitating to more softness. You sort of remind me of Marion Cotillard who is a Kibbe-verified classic of some kind but she has this luminously fragile feminine appearance that you somewhat share imo. But pointiness is not within the classic vibe

I love thoughtful comments like this!
I'm happy you checked out Allison and Alyssa's videos. I recommend them because their styles are different, but they have used the same technique to find that style. And I want my viewers to have the opportunity to decide whether the personal style techniques I've found work for me will also work for them. In this case, it seems it doesn't, and that's absolutely OK. I'm sorry this video wasn't helpful for you.
Regarding the way in which Allison and Alyssa describe their style, using the 3 words of their choice, and how they choose to portray that style, comes down to the fact that descriptors are subjective. In my case, what is classic, sleek, and approachable to me may not be the same for someone else. I think this is part of the fun of the 3-word method. Having different ideas for the same word brings up all kinds of new combinations and, ultimately, VERY unique styles.
Though this technique doesn't vibe with you, I hope some of my outfit combinations or other tips give you fresh ideas to try with pieces in your closet. And thank you for the compliment about the sharp shoulders and pointed shoes. I'm slowly getting more confident in wearing sharper silhouettes. Take care! ❤
