    Two tips for people with bare spots who want to fill it in: 1) Water the bare spot every couple of days. Bermuda surrounding the bare spot will sense the moisture and will run to it. Secondly, buy a Pro Plugger ($40) and pull plugs from existing lawn and plug into bare patches. Water these every day for a week, then stair step it down.

    I can certainly attest to your statements sir. My back yard was full of weeds and smothered by leaves. I cleared the decaying leaves, killed all of the weeds, and gave what was left a good scalp. Followed by good watering and proper fertilizer and the bermuda took off. Filled all bare spots on it's own, and pretty rapidly.

    WOW!!! Man you are very knowledgeable. I thought those stolon’s were weeds and I went through my whole yard pulling them up by hand. 🤦🏾‍♂️ My builder told me they put down Bermuda sod and he told me how it goes dormant in the winter but when spring came around I saw nothing but dead grass laid down flat and the lawn looked terrible. So that’s when I pulled up the stolon and dethatched, raked and overseeded and it came out beautiful. But I spent a lot of money doing this if only I had seen your video first.

    Agreed- especially when dealing with sodded Bermuda. However, what are your thoughts on over seeding existing common (no hybrid sod in my yard) with some sort of other common? New construction home, this was the 2nd growing season here, and I’ve noticed the common spreading nicely in the backyard.. has probably 30% coverage of common Bermuda (those areas actually look really good!), and the rest is mainly crabgrass. Front yard is separate and is sodded centipede.
    Don’t want to sod backyard, just want to have a decent looking common Bermuda backyard. Would you let it all green up next season, use post emergent for weeds, then overseed with some common?

    • @BudgetLawns
      @BudgetLawns  2 роки тому +1

      Good question. My lawn was new construction 4 years ago (I'm building again now and am about to start over). The first go-around, like you, I was covered in crabgrass and clover. Yes, you could go ahead and overseed common with a common seed. I don't see anything wrong with that. However, I'd still just let it fill in on its own. It can happen so quickly with proper water, temps, and lot of mowing. I enjoy that process. Bermuda takes awhile to germinate and get going. It'd prolly be pretty close time wise on the fill in anyway. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya!

    • @RussC123
      @RussC123 2 роки тому +1

      @@BudgetLawns ok cool, makes sense. I may actually be underestimating on the percent coverage. As long as there’s at least a little common here and there I’m sure next season it will really start taking off if I give it the right growing conditions and it doesn’t have to compete with crabgrass. Maybe I’ll just throw down some pre-emergent early spring to give a head start on controlling crabgrass, then push the common hard!

    As my uncle (professionally studied agriculture) says, "It should be a crime to sell Bermuda. It spreads like a weed!"
    "The reason people used bermuda originally is because it would take over lawns like a weed and could not be eradicated."

      @@BudgetLawnsI got my 7 blade reel mower yesterday. It is reely good! It is built as well as the old school ones that I used when they were built in the US. I mowed my Bermuda at 11/2" for summer. What height do you mow?
