I love the “buy the last year phone” strategy. I got a deal on a brand new iPhone 13 for just $430 cash back in October and its pretty much the exact same as the 14 for way less, and then I have service from an mvno for just $30/mo
Actually many plans give installment discounts or if you do a trade in you'll be paying minimal for a new phone. The catch is is you don't keep the plan for 3 years you lost those discounts and must pay off in full.
It seems like he doesn't understand this. You'll be paying your monthly service fee no matter what so if you can basically get the phone for free with monthly installments then you'd actually be stupid not to do it. My 3 years is up in a couple months and my current phone still works great but I'll definitely be trading it in for the newest model for basically free. Also this dude says he deleted all social media, yet he makes UA-cam videos which is a form of social media as much as any other. This guy is honestly pretty stupid all around.
I feel like one key to this is to not plan to replace your phone when it is in its worst condition if you don’t make much money. When I think of paying instalments I imagine the anxiety of having a good device that works would push you to pay for instalments if you don’t have too much money as your mentality would be that you can pay every month rather than pay all at once and go without for a bit. Replacing a phone when it’s aging but not in terrible condition gives enough cushion to save up for another phone.
Unlocked phones are great imo. I don't have to be a slave to one network or hassled and put on a payment plan. Usually you can get a better phone for the price.
There are advantages to staying with the same network. Prices always go up and plans change, it could easily cost you a lot more to switch networks all the time and wouldn't make any sense. All 3 of the big networks provide excellent service for the most part so why would you want to change. I'll gladly take $1000 toward my new device by trading in a 5 year old device and stay with the same service provider. Now, if you have bad credit and need to use a budget phone service then it makes sense to get an unlocked phone that you can switch to any carrier because they don't have phone deals like the major providers do.
I have a completely different takes. If you, for example are someone who is strictly making payment on time and paying in full, could get 0% APR on anything for 60 months or shorter, I say it is WORTH IT IMO because interest-free I.e. no penalty no extra cost and such, as long the payment is not greater than 25% of your monthly income. Obviously it better to pay FULL IN CASH but who the heck could with the high price tag on necessity these days? Average American has 400 dollars in savings for goodness sake. Let look at the below example. Let say I signed up for 12 month financing with no interest on the iPad Pro 12.9 M1 for $750 after tax at Best Buy. I putted $300 cash down which brings down my debt to $450. $450 divided by 12 months equates to $37.50 per month without interest. $37.50 / 2 pay check per month = 19.00!!! So $19.00 automatically deducted from employer to the checking acct for future payment due on specific date. $20 per paycheck for 12 months are obviously do-able and affordable. Of course, not everyone faces the same outlook as I do. BOTTOM LINE: financing isn’t all that bad especially when it offers 0% rate and doesn’t come close to the half of the monthly income. Just my POV.
Many people dont realize that most phones made in the last 3-5 yr have the capabilities to do everything just as well as the newest phones and those phone will likely last for another 2-4 yrs.
@Mr.Bryan1234 yes, they will. You will get better performance from newer SOC. While benchmarks may Show good gains. Performance in apps will be marginal. The A13 is capable of doing everything the A15 can with marginal difference in performance. The only thing that will likely see drastic differences is something super niche like windows emulation on android.
Exactly, I used to upgrade every year when the upgrades were substantial. These days, smart phones are so good that manufacturers are actually struggling to find new features. Ever since the galaxy s10, the Samsung phones have had more power than is necessary to run pretty much any app that can be made. I've had my galaxy s22 for 3 years now and will be upgrading next month when my contract is up. 3 year contracts seem perfect to me with how much phone technology has slowed down.
Yup, I enjoy my top tier service. I have att. And even though metro pcs is on tmobile, metro is trash compared to tmobile. I switched from tmobile to att years ago because att has much better upgrade deals. I can basically, always trade in my 3 year old samsung phone and get a new one for free. It doesn't get any better than that... I'll gladly extend my contract since I'll be paying that much regardless of which carrier I'm with.
Well said. Nobody would pay full freight for a 3 year old flagship, but that's what you're doing if you sign up for one of these financing plans. Save your money and buy last years model half off.
Cancelled my $115/month Verizon plan after 4 days after realizing the long term costs and bought an unlocked iPhone 16 pro max and ported to Visible+ for $35/month. The long term savings and freedom are worth the up front cost.
Budget service providers are nowhere near as good as top tier. Ya, the phone works but the overall service is usually terrible. Verizon is the most expensive though so I would have left them too. Att is the best bang for your buck and they have the best phone deals.
I totally agreed with you!! I paid off my 14 Pro Max feels pretty good not worrying about making payments no more. It’s true if you leased an Phone your paying more than the phones worth. phones loose their value through out the time. Verizon kept sending me upgrade my phone so nah 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you are on a payment plan with no interest then you are paying the same amount wether you pay it all up front or not. There is literally no difference in price. Now if you buy the new phone using a credit card with 35% apr then you're stupid and at that point you're definitely over paying for the phone. I've never seen a major carrier charge interest on phone installment plans. But I am in the United States, maybe it's different in other countries...
I bought my own house when I stopped getting newer iphone. This guy speaking the truth and you should listen to him. Make an investment while you are still young.
how did a $1000 per year purchase prevent you from buying a house? Sounds like you had some more crazy spending going on and you're just blaming it on the iPhone for some reason.
@@AnonN-sr6uuon top of that. Most carriers have pretty good trade in deals if you have an iPhone or Samsung phone. Usually making the new phone pretty much free..
I just worry about something looking at this and not thinking they are doing anything else other than spending $1000. Just because it is 0 interest, does not change the fact that you are spending $1000. If you can afford the $1000 then by all means buy it. If not I would suggest spending 250-350 on an older iPhone
Not to mention that many carriers give huge trade in credits. Att is giving $1000 for phones as old as the galaxy s20. Like you said, it doesn't cost anything more to get a new phone and you'll be making your regular monthly payment no matter what so I really don't understand what this guy in the video is so caught up on. It bothers me so much that I'm all over these comments explaining basic math to people. You seem to be one of the only ones that actually understands how things work. Now if you have bad credit and can only afford a budget carrier like metro pcs, tello, etc... then I can understand what he is saying. He also says he doesn't use social media, yet makes UA-cam videos which is a form of social media so I think that all around he's pretty confused.
I know nothing about iphone plans but someone just told me they were put on a plan where there were three different phones, paid for one got the others free but the main phone is the only phone they can use to make payments on the plan... can someone please tell me if this is true or not and maybe explain to me how this stuff works I think I am being lied to....😑😑😑
I had to get a new iPhone 14 pro max , my favorite iPhone 8 Plus was ran over 18 wheeler:( I couldn’t find used iPhone 8 256gb. Only found 64,128, never 256 model
Videos like this are dumb, only middle class or higher will spend $800 for a phone, if you have been w a carrier for 20 yrs and prob won’t change for another 3 yrs and the company is going to give you the $800 over the span of three years and you just gotta pay taxes why would I pay for it when I planned to pay for the line of service anyway and the phone will pay for it self, I’ve worked at phone companies
Because big carriers sell you services that you don’t need for crazy high costs. To pay themselves back for the phone you think was free. I bought an unlocked iPhone 16 pro max for $1,200 and activated the same unlimited data and speeds that Verizon charges $100/month for on Visible for $35/month. I can add and remove different carriers when and where I want. Being locked into a $100+/month plan for 3 years is a prison sentence. You also have to buy the phone anyway and pay a cancelation fee if you ever go to an area that you get bad service in.
@@MyName-xt6js It's not the same. It's a budget service and is capped. It's like Tmobile and metro pcs. Just because metro is on the Tmobile network doesn't make it as good. Anyone I know with metro have a lot of calling and slow data problems. If that doesn't bother you then that's great, but some people enjoy their top tier service. Also, they don't charge more for a phone you think is free, I don't know where you got that crazy idea from.
