- We tried to unlock an iPhone 12 Model A2172 Carrier Lock - SIM Locked with AT&T using the AT&T Unlock Portal ( www.att.com/deviceunlock/ ) and we got the message:
"We can’t unlock this device because the device is still under contract. Sign into your account to review your contract. To pay the early termination fee and unlock the device, call 800.331.0500 or dial 611 from your wireless device. You can submit a new unlock request 24 hours after your payment posts to your account."
When we try to use a Mint Mobile SIM card on the AT&T iPhone we got this other message: "SIM Not Supported" so we called the AT&T Customer Service number: 800.331.0500 and the representative told us they can't do anything about it since we don't have access to the original contract.
The only good thing about all this is that we know we can still activate the iPhone on the AT&T Network or any other Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that use the AT&T Network because the iPhone is not Blacklisted, you can check if your iPhone's IMEI is blacklisted by going to this site: www.imeipro.info/

If it's T-Mobile you are probably fine. Not sure about other carriers

They didn’t paid the contract. You can’t do anything rather than taking the iPhone imei and paying their balance or using that phone as a trade-in to another carrier. Spoofing the IMEI … but is a gray area.

Be weary of used financed phones. They will show as clean up until that account goes into a negative status. Always make sure the phone is PAID off and unlocked.
i paid off my phone and switched to a different carrier and when i switched again they said i hadnt paid off my phone like how do i switch in the first place.. some places just wanna fuck you and you just have to take it sometimes cause of the situation
This is true, but it honestly depends on the carrier. I had T-Mobile and got the 13 pro Max when it came out. I never finished paying it off and sold it to a family member with T-Mobile (told them I'd buy it back if it got blacklisted). They are still using it now in 2024 with no issues

Recientemente me regalaron un iPhone 14 pro Max americano de 2da mano, y al revisar el IMEI no está en BlackList, pero cuando hago este mismo proceso de at&t me sale que no se puede desbloquear hasta pagar el plan de cuotas, y la verdad no me interesa desbloquearlo ya que yo soy de AT&T
Si está en cuotas y pues no se paga entonces después de tiempo lo van a poner en la BlackList?

Namaste, if you want to use the iPhone in India pls buy an unlocked iPhone, don’t buy a locked iPhone hoping to unlock it for free, unless you already have the IMEI and AT&T already approved your request with that IMEI.

This actually happens usually even if there isn’t a contract. You have to call their loyalty department until they force the unlock. Just did this yesterday with my Pixel 6 Pro.
I agree. I need to contact loyalty because I literally paid off my iPhone 12 Pro Max and any recent bills. It doesn’t let me submit an unlock request and I spoke to an agent telling me to wait 24-48 hours meanwhile she shoved advertisement and offers up my throat to stay with ATT if I connect the second line. I don’t understand why the forcing us to be LOCKED when we have already 100% paid off the device. Honestly it’s better to buy the iPhone full price from Apple or any cellar device. ATT IS A SCAM

There are no free rides. A lot of companies use locked phones to lock you into their services. Unfortunately new phones quickly become old phones. The promise of a new phone, is simply locking you into a contract.
I remembered switching carriers just to get an iPhone, the iPhone began in the US with an AT&T contract, back in the days
I paid mine off and they still won’t unlock it 😢
Phone only gets locked to the carrier after they put the sim chip in. If you put sim in yourself it will lock to whichever carriers sim you are putting in the phone
What do you do if it says you can’t unlock your device until your installment plan is paid off
Keep trying once a week, use an MKSD SIM in the meantime.

AT&T has my device locked, I wanted to give it to a relative, the phone is old, it was replaced by AT&T already 2 times, I don't own them any termination fee, still, AT&T refuses to unlock it while I have a contract even that the phone is already paid. and that "Login into your account" didn't work either. As soon as the contract is finish, I will change carriers.
You have all the right to unlock it since its paid in full, pls follow the steps, dont login into your account
@@SuAmigoAlex Thank you Amigo, but I already went to the AT%T page and intrude my IMEI, when to the store, chat support, phone support, and all they say is that the phone is part of the contract. I ask them to remove it but they said I have to wait 30 days to make the request, I wait, nothing happens, call again and they give me other 30 days to try. I so full of that company. Just put it on Cricket like I did. I needed a second phone to cheat on my wife and found this old iphone XS Max i had. Its locked to ATT because its not paid off and i put it on cricket good to go
