Luxon needs to read Sir Apirana Ngata's views on the treaty. This learned, esteemed Maori gentleman of the 19th century, clearly lays out what the treaty is and what it means. It never was described as a partnership or shared sovereignty. Queen Victoria wouldn't allow her own husband to share sovereignty with her. She certainly wasn't going to share it with a people she didn't know.

Winston's act I believe is yet to come, after Davids. But if he does, what will Luxon do then lol....😂 if he squashes that too he's toast and so will National be too.

We heard the same rubbish when it was “settlements” ….full and final. Was promised that would be the end of it and maori would go on and use the millions paid for their benefit. He looked at it when Cabinet agreed to this redraft from the Seymour original. So if he agreed that it should proceed from Cabinet to the House to be entered on the docket en route to first reading, at what point did he not like anything about it?
This is naive flipflopping on a huge issue, and he needs to be called on it. There is a point in the near future where this becomes a coalition confidence matter... like, just before the Budget is heard. THAT would be a massive outflank by ACT. I have read the bill and it appears straight forward to me. No controversy there at all. If all Te Pati Maori can make of it is to criticise it for only being four pages long after all of their rhetoric regarding how it will tear the treaty up it just shows how inept they are.
