TVNZ does not come out of this in any way squeaky clean. It is most certainly time for an enquiry into TVNZ’s supposed neutrality as a broadcaster. And if, as I suspect, they are found to be wanting in that respect there should be a complete investigation as to their financial irresponsibility via a loss of advertising revenue caused by TVNZ content. Financial responsibility being required under the TVNZ Act.
There is absolutely no neutrally in the mainstream media especially tvnz
In Singapore, they made a law, ‘If any media writes or airs anything against government, the government has the right to take equal time in the same slot and put forward their side’
TVNZ is clearly one eyed socialist. Their rating must have fallen considerably the past few years.
I agree 100% and turn TV 1 off as soon as it appears. One side outfit.

@rodnichols6237 society moves forward, in other words.
@@kahouli2496 It depends on if you speak for all NZers.
2:28 The problem with your statement is that he’s NOT seeking to re-write the treaty because he cant what he’s doing is attempting to re-write the Treaty Principles which are the ideas, phrases and words that are thought to capture the broad sentiments, intentions and goals of the Treaty to allow them to be incorporated into law and applied in practice. In a nutshell, the Treaty Principles are the Treaty’s representative in law.
They are the Treatys representative in law as there are 2.documents (the Treaty of Waitangi and Te Tiriti o Waitangi). The Government favours the Treaty as it gives them authority, while Te Tiriti says differently. This is why principles were enacted to breathe life to the favored document, The Treaty of Waitangi.
They were developed over 60 years by academics (particularly New Zealand historians), lawyers, judges and other experts employed by the courts or Waitangi Tribunal, alongside Iwi officials and Iwi governing entities, government officials as well as politicians.
The principles can be changed, however what Seymour proposes doesn’t even resonate with the spirit let alone the text of the Treaty or Te Tiriti. As most Treaty experts agree that while the 2 treaty documents are somewhat different they both agree that Maori retain right to govern over themselves and their lands. Further to this Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Maori version) is the version recognised in international law, because it’s the version signed by the Chiefs and is one of the reasons why 2:28 was not successful.

It in and of itself is set in stone, but there's hammers and chisels for that, what they're trying to do is rewrite the interpretation they already wrote when they initially paved the way for this mess in the 70s and 80s. They're in effect trying to amend ammendments previously made a few decades ago under the guise it's old, and antiquated, and we need to be progressive- ain't that a trip- the treaty is indeed old- but the ammendments are relatively new all be they worthless in the ICJ.

8%. Whoopy doo.
Stands to reason why Maori don't want this going through, they'll lose their "special" status because when everybody's special nobody's special. That will be in the spoken rule for sure but over time I think it will be the unwritten as well. They may as well put all their grievances on a shelf because they will become downgraded to irrelevance. The treaty has always been a tough order because on the one hand the government has, will and can never fulfill their obligations and on the other hand Maori have to move on, cut their loses and give up their special status. This bill will force the issue but it's not going to be without a fight.
Spot on. Maori will lose there special status. They don't want an even playing feild, they want the medal without even trying.
When I was growing up if you were special you were handicap
The bill is a waste of money that doesn't have legs.
What special status? When my mother and her relatives were growing up, they were beaten or tortured for speaking te reo.. They have never received an apology from the Crown or compensation for the abuse. The Maori "special status" barred them from entering entertainment areas in the 1950s, securing housing and or jobs. My uncle an ex-war veteran was declined 28 rental properties because of his "special" status. My uncles who fought in WW2 returned from war and got nothing for their service, but their pakeha counterparts got housing, education and jobs. My white looking mother had to listen to her pakeha colleagues' rants about "dirty Maori" and other disgusting racist comment. My boss could not sit next to her white mother at the movie theatre cause Maori sat elsewhere. This is how pakeha justice works for Maori when the land is stolen and sold off to someone else by the thief, they have to make a claim, and wait over 100 years before the claim is heard so they can be compensated or receive their land back. However, according to Pakeha justice for non Maori when property is stolen the thief is prosecuted and the victim gets compensation, or their property returned without having to file any claims. Who has the "special" status? One law for all what a load of crap.
Check your dirty history England

A rational adult conversation. Nice!
Go Seymour. We are headed toward feudalism where we are the peasants if this is not clarified once and for all.
Not feudalism, which is a concept created in the 30s and 40s to describe a naturally forming way of life given the social constructs and technological advancements of the time.
The only opinion for the indigenous population would be Chiefdom.
These are stratified tribal societies led by chiefton: Some tribes had a very complex organizational structure and these tribes were led by a head called the chief or Rangatira . As with most peoples who use this system, this is a social organization more complex than a tribe (hapu/pori) and less than a civilization. Such kinds of social organizations are called chiefdoms which are very unstable and were prone to cycles of collapse and renewal. An example of this kind of social organization would be the Germanic Peoples who conquered the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century. They had a complex social hierarchy comprising of:
Kings.
A warrior aristocracy
Common freemen serfs.
Slaves.
@@AmonAnon-vw3hr your point is? I mean: that's what the treaty actually says (not what Seymour misinterprets the treaty to say). The treaty was written by the British Empire in 1840 - an Empire that was about to support the Confederacy in the US Civil war! The idea the British in 1840 (or even today) supported equality before the law, the removal of the hereditary aristocracy, universal suffrage, women's rights, is utterly crazy.
Having a conversation about the principles of enlightenment liberal democracy - or the country - is fine.
That's not what Seymour's draft bill, which does exist, which you can find on his website does.

@@cullenkehoe5184 there are a bunch of issues here: The operative part of Seymours bill makes it *unconstitutional* to discriminate in any way for any reason "on the basis of ethnicity" and overrides any and all existing laws and precedents.
My comments would be unconstitutional if the law is passed as is: because I'm advocating for "discrimination on the basis of ethnicity".
The problem is: given NZ's history of erasure of Māori property rights, this law will do the opposite of establish one law for all: it will entrench one law for whites, and another and lesser law for Māori, as the highest constitutional principle in the country, and in a way that cannot be repealed or amended.

@23.00 min: "Pizza Gate for hippies" 😂😂😂 almost fell off my lawnmower with that one.
"The chiefs of the Confederation and all the chiefs who have not joined that Confederation give absolutely to the Queen of England for ever the complete government over their land." Article 1. This is unclear how?
Since when has the Queen run the Government. They have been a figurehead for a long time. Victoria was a symbol of law and order that the English immigrant's wanted. They needed laws in NZ to control the trouble makers sailors and sealers.
Because article 1 of the Māori text doesn't say sovereignty it says kāwanatanga (governance). And then in article 2 it says Māori will retain tino rangatiratanga (absolute authority).
So the Crown walks away from Article 1 of the Treaty with the idea they have "absolutely and without reservation all the rights and powers of Sovereignty", while the Maori Confederation walks away with the idea of "kāwanatanga (governance)"; and in article 2 the Crown understands the Maori Confederation retains "full exclusive and undisturbed possession of their Lands and Estates Forests Fisheries and other properties which they may collectively or individually possess", while the Maori Confederation believes they retain " tino rangatiratanga (absolute authority)"?
That's an excellent summation. If you put yourself in the shoes of Māori leaders, it seems very unlikely that they would have signed away their ability to rule over their lands and people to a foreign power. No-one would do that. It makes a lot more sense that they were allowing the english to establish a government to help control the increasing number of European settlers.
If you read the treaty like this the following few decades make sense. Until the NZ Wars, English law had very little power beyond the boundaries of European settlements.
Great interview.

WRONG HAHAHAHA 1people what people?? nz Chinese nz tonga nz Indians??? You stay with them.. were good over here hahaha
@@UPTHEWAHSDAY1 So you want to discriminate against people by race is that what you want. FYI my three kids are 1/4 Indian are you going to allow them to be Kiwis?
@@roilhead get this clear your a new Zealander so are your 1/4 Indian kids.. I'm maori.. maramataka you get it Kerry.. I don't care about you or your Indian kids yous are kiwis I'm MAORI are you understanding yet??? It's not discrimination it's facts you can call it what you want 🙂 but dont get upset with the truth I know it hurts but wrap your head around it 😂
@@roilhead like i said stay there with them. Kerry the kiwi Hahaha With 25% Indian kids hahahaha.. WE BE MAORI BEFORE WE BE KIWI.. example my children are polish maori so your point is flightless like a KIWI
If you had not commented on my comment you wouldn't have to justify yourself and then finally realise that maori don't consider themselves flightless birds e.g. KIWI 🤣🤣🤣🤣.. well leave that to you lot we good over here, im sure your aware maori are going through an awakening and it ain't looking good for you. Educate yourself or just stay there and watch this space..
Equal human rights fir all NZ citizens tick
Meritocracy bring it on better for everyone
Meritocracy is a scam, think it through 🤷♂️
Elizebeth Rata is another well researched academic proponent of getting the principals examined and debated.
Great effort David ... keep it up. Maybe have some of your colleagues of maori heritage do some fronting as well.
Go act 👍
Keep going David. Your view will save nz from apartheid and a future of mediocrity e.g. south africa! We have been suffering accelarating mediocrity for decades lead by labour governments but not sufficiently reversed by national in this time. If we continue as 2 more peoples it is time nonmaori charged for free gifts given by non maori collectively to maori. This is virtually trillions of technological gifts not available to maori until colonisation and the subsequent opening to the outside world. Maori didn't even have the wheel!
It’s more than 10% in question. An online UNRWA group was caught out spreading racism and support for Hamas. Somone shared a contact list in the group, with their names.
The principals are freewill and free choice
Go David.
The issues around the treaty need to be resolved around what it meant when it was signed, otherwise it'll never be accepted.
stop handing them billions and assets, recover it all.....
who ever is paying them and on kick backs,..go to jail...
David for PM
Just follow the money and you’ll see who are up in arms about what David is saying
The gravy train has left the station 😭😭😭
Love your work, David
80% of the country think he is a hero. Finally someone putting the Maori bs to bed. If Maori want a revolution so be it. They have time to protest while the rest of us have to wrk.
Hey I work!
@@SB-Kiwi that is great as we all should be responsible for making Nz a better place. However when we look at the unemployed, dole registers. Certain nationalities have a much higher rate of abusing the dole, etc. thank you for being a good responsible person .
Very good
Has all the money & benefits that the Maori have received on the back of all tax payers of all ethnicity been productive? Maori are 17.3% of the population but are 52% of the prison population,
36% are on welfare, 40.9% violent crime are Maori males. Maybe what has been done is not working and a change Maybe beneficial.
After watching the behavior at Waitangi today I hope we do get a referendum on the principles . The trouble makers there today were shocking
Very disturbing our Govt should not attend and make NZ Day great again, ditch the maori names theyre out the gate
Remember David: The flak is always heaviest over the target ;-)
They're afraid of having this discussion, which is why they're 'cry bullying'.
Who is "they"? No one is afraid.
the radicals- they're crapping themselves that they'll be exposed.@@teharipumautonu
@@teharipumautonu Oh I dunno. lots of whites are afraid - and with good reason.
If ACT wanted a discussion then they could have a policy for a "discussion" like Matike Mai - hui / meetings all around the country, or even a citizens assembly like in Ireland.
but ACT don't want a discussion: they just want to abolish Māori qua Māori, and are willing to destroy NZ's constitutional framework to do so.
National is woke
Looking that way
Found an interesting quote in a book I was reading. It comes from Bruce Stewart who the founder of the Tapu Te Ranga Marae. “Not everything the Maori have done has been beautiful and I can’t let my love for my own people blind me to that. Before the Maori arrived, there were other groups who lived here, called the Maoriori and the Patipiahiti. These groups were extreme pacifists, and very evolved in their thinking. It is said that whenever a scuffle broke out among these people, at the first sign of bloodshed all fighting must cease. The Maori then came, and slaughtered these earlier more peaceful people.” The book is called ‘A language older than words’ the writer Derrick Jensen published 2002 pg 166. Can anyone clarify this for me?
You are gaslighting. I'm from the UK. You should know better. It's like defending what the nazis did byvsaying, oh, the Russians were terrible too.
