  • Learn how to swing Indian Clubs: dutchflowacademy.com/light-cl...
Another video with ‪@Wolkowinski‬ that we shot while I was visiting him in Perth. It's incredible how much we enjoy meeting up. In this video I asked Paul more about his knowledge and ideas about the connection between Indian Clubs and Martial Arts, specifically the sword and the dagger. Paul shares an interesting perspective on how Indian Clubs, but also Persian Meels are connected to war and fighting. We dive a bit deeper into the history of the connection too and try to find out what movements where inspired by the battlefield. There's a lot more videos of us coming to this channel, so stay tuned!

Mace training changed me. Been with my hanuman gada for the past 10 weeks. I've lost 8 kilos, my sleep cycle has improved, I look younger. I'm 33 BTW and I came out of a seven year long depression. Your work in Varanasi is what pushed me. Thank you.

Indian clubs are designed to help train attributes required for European swordsmanship, Meel and Karlakattai on the other hand train attributes for Indian or Indo-Persian tulwar, gurz, tabar, vaal etc. Now Gada on the other hand are good training for two handed weapons like War Gada, Bullova etc but only up to a certain weight which allows us to do the necessary forms and weapon manipulation. We today differentiate between training tools for Kushti and training tools for our weapon arts because the training is tweaked in the latter. I for example cannot swing 20+kg Gada or 10kg Meel the same way I can lighter versions meant for weapons attribute development that then translates to War staves, Bullova or single handed Tabar, Tulwar, Gurz etc because the Gada and Meel work I do is tailored for weapons use. European swords use the wrist as the major pivot point and the mechanics are lunge based, Indian swords used the elbow as the major pivot point and the mechanics is more based on the twist from the core/waist. If you come to South India sometime Paul I'd be happy to demonstrate some of our Indian arts :) It pays to do both IMA and HEMA to contrast.

The very small clubs are helpful for rehabilitation, the medium clubs are great for learning basic martial arts techniques and the larger ones are great for wrestlers as well as enhancing martial arts techniques. I fully agree with this video

You should also check out the Japanese Kanabo or Faribo if you are interested in the relationship between the sword and heavier clubs.

Their is sone difference though, kanabo was a war weapon continued in medieval era japan, but the mugdhar is not a war weapon it was meant for training. Though Gadas were used as a proper war weapon in Ancient Bharat, though their use was probably discontinued to prefer more agility in war, and probably replaced by gurz in medieval Bharat.
Maces and Clubs have been used in battles in various cultures.

@@rage8673 Im aware of that and train with several types of maces and clubs too. Just saying that the japanese clubs are also an interesting aspect to look at particularly when looking at martial application and the relationship with two handed weapons.
