Ill never fucking forget the first time i watched your video on how to do a PROPER dumbell row. With half the weight i was normally using my lat literally cramped up near the end of my set. Best stimulation of a targeted muscle ive ever felt.(and also extremely humbling). I knew from that moment on that this channel was where the fuck its at💪💯
I’ve worked at a gym along side many trainers and I’ve had my own personal trainers. I’ve taken weight training classes and have been lifting for about 8years and no BS I’ve learned way more from you. Because of you I’ve changed the way I look and do most of my workouts. Appreciate you big mike
I have watched so many people on UA-cam and Mike has the style that I can finally relate to. And I love his candid personality. Idiots call it ego. They’re just morons who refuse to give credit where credit is due. I’m no body builder. Just a regular guy. But Thank you Mike for your videos.
Love it!!! I see so much now of the ultra slow negative! This video reminds me of how Jason Huh used to train! If I remember he was big on the tension point of exercises! Great video as always!
That's the point... constant tension on the "targeted" muscle... YOU know... but getting that point across to "some" people is uh... difficult. Thank you brother... was introduced to you by a buddy... you rock 🫡
The only other person that has taught me this was Jim Flanagan who worked for Arthur Jones back in the day. I've known him since the 80's. He has an incredible home gym in the Orlando area. At 75yrs old is in awesome shape. Thanks for all the proper instruction and Pearl's of wisdom.
Mike reminds me of Dorian. Calm, knowledgeable, real fukin guy, will speak the truth even if dont like it but its all to help you learn. Lol "everyone wants to get offended now a days" so fuckin true😂
Telling it like it is. Reminds me of Rob Vigeant Jr’s video when tough love is needed to get people on the correct path. Like you he could say nothing, but you’re sharing your knowledge and explaining you reasons. I do curls or hammers with weights attached to the end of a figure of 8 strap (with my hand through the top loop), so the weight is always hanging and so the same throughout the full motion. Doesn’t look as impressive as big dumbbells, but those big dumbbells become easy if you train the hard way. I’m about to subscribe.
Let’s get a video about food and how you used to eat for size and what you changed when cutting. Hell let’s get a day in the life and see what size bowl of cereal you crush now a days
I've had a plethora of experience and have never ever did the slow 🐌 negative as a way of lifting. Not actually something that I would wanna do I enjoy the pathway and maintain that pathway . As a result 👏 I've been completely retaining muscle mass 💪 even at 50 years of age.
It took me 30 years to learn that for me and my body, bodybuilding is not about lifting weights. Bodybuilding is contracting, squeezing and stretching the muscles and or a loaded stretch. Loading the muscles in the lengthened range, the midrange and the short range. Sorry yes I do believe the negative portion of the movement or the eccentric is the most effective portion of the movement.
I honestly cannot believe you have to explain this. God knows how we actually achieved massive gains in the old days by training normal with commonsense and knowing how to eat.
Wrong. How would your chest not have tension if you go down slow like that? Muscles have a function and they work regardless of your feelings. To stretch the chest the humerus has to retract, which is exactly what happens when you go down slow. Your feelings don’t matter Mr Wyked. Muscles have a function and they work regardless of your sensation
I don’t mind using science behind a method of training, but reactivity towards every new “study” that comes out is absolute nonsense. And here’s the thing with this video-science actually supports a relatively short eccentric (2 seconds) for optimal muscle growth. Even RP’s Dr. Mike has admitted the slow eccentrics he has people do in his videos may be excessive. If you’re waiting for science’s conclusions to catch up to what real coaches already know, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
@@tommygun6559 hmm, mind muscle is definitely important. Consider this, lately I’ve been experimenting with partial rage movements. From adductors to chest, quads, shoulders, just about everything but calves. Im not “going to the top” of any movement and contracting. Since there’s more constant tension on the muscle I feel it way more. I’m using lighter weights to control it as perfectly as I can. I’m getting pretty sore from it. I’d bet I get some new growth out of it. But no I’m not getting that hard contraction you’re talking about. So is it really that important?

Totally agree. Well said.
Can’t tell you how many “influencers” I see telling people to “squeeze and hold” at the top of the contraction as if THAT is the real key to growth.
It's not the "key to growth" but its one of many useful techniques to obtain growth.
Thats what he said why you feel the urge to repeat? You wanna look smarter than the rest of us? Geez 🙄
@@themoralisticwolf I'm replying to Kats comment about dismissing the squeeze and hold. She needs it repeated.
Have a blessed day Lucian.

Bro! Iove this video. All the way spot on. I'm 54 years old and still training. I felt bad for laughing at the 2:30min mark. lmao! Lawd!
Appreciate you BIG MIKE!
😂😂 another thing i was guilty of doing a while ago thank god I watch this channel and fix all my errors thanks Big Mike

Honestly I’d rather see ppl in gym go overly slow compared to the much more common, super fast half-range jerk reps.

I disagree. Surely the hold and squeeze at the top of the bicep cable movement is a great muscle contraction.
Yeah but it’s the end you have no gravity and less tension at the end of the rep your muscle isn’t doing that much work
What do you think it does if u disagree?
