    so stoked to receive my 14" M1 Pro. Finally upgrading my 2015 MBP, and will eventually transition fully to it from my desktop mac mini once all the plug ins transition.

    Same with bitwig. I've been using the M1 version of bitwig on the M1 MacBook pro 13" for months and it's wonderful and amazing. Loading a project takes one third to one fifth the time. More and more plugins are native, but with bitwig, plugins run in separate processes, so there's no issue because Rosetta take care of the problem. I can imagine that Live is equally wonderful. I can attest the M1 Pro runs *even better* than the plain M1. Thanks Apple! I have yet to hear the fans on the M1 Pro 14" though they do spin up (get TG Pro for $10 while the sale lasts). They are dead silent. I have heard (no pun intended) that they are even quieter on the 16", though I can't see it that it would matter. My UAD Apollo Solo runs just fine and has for months; it just takes a little care to get osx to approve of the driver.

    Im just coming from a 2020 Intel Mac to a M3 Max with 64 gigs of ram ...going on two months now , I got the one with 40 GPU cores because I do video, after effects work and C4D stuff....and I have to say this computer is game changing for real! I definitely had to get used to not hearing the fan noise lol. Ive been using Macs since the G4 came out and the fan noise was something I always hated but had no choice but to deal with it, Ive only heard the fans kick in once and it was while doing some intense After effects work with a lot of layers and intense plugins generation particles, noise , etc and it wasn't that loud....I never had them turn on while doing audio production, Apple created beast with these M series Macs!

    Have you tried Acustica Audio plugins or Nebula with Rosetta in Abelton? For me that is the ultimate test. Because many plugin developers are almost a year or more behind with adapting to M1 and now also Monterey, this MacBook M1 Pro/Max is probably at it's peak during 2023 or late 2022 (if the plugins we as individuals are using have been adapted). Kind of like having a Ferrari in the garage and waiting for someone to make the roads in your area.

  • @meticmusic
    @meticmusic 2 роки тому +3

    thanks for this i’m stoked for mine in the mail. my understanding is the more GPU cores the more battery life it consumes, but that can be mitigated if you go with the 16” version. I went with the 14” and 24-core Max cuz Maxes render ProRes videos faster and have a higher memory bandwidth than the Pros. 14” will also be more susceptible to fan noise too for those on the fence, and will have to be weighed against portability as a consideration

    I have the 2019 Macbook Pro, maxed out. Fans were incredibly loud and annoying especially for recording vocals. My solution was to run a fibre-optic thunderbolt 3 cable (by Corning) outside the studio and had the Macbook out there. These cables can run up to 50m with virtually zero latency. For anyone wondering, The M1 Pro and Max will perform the same for everything outside of video editing or graphics performance. They both have the same 10 cores for anything that doesn't require a GPU.

    • @briancase6180
      @briancase6180 2 роки тому +2

      Yes, with one minor detail to consider: the Max chip has two extra memory interfaces. The extra bandwidth is not relevant for the scalar CPUs (it can really help the GPU), but each memory interface brings with it a (sizeable) block of system cache. The doubling of system cache could mean better performance for your application. If the cache hit rate goes up, as it should, it could mean fewer accesses to the DRAM, which could mean lower power consumption. That might be offset by the CPUs using more power because they are waiting less for memory references to be satisfied, but all in all, higher system cache hit ratio should mean better overall performance. I'm not sure it's worth the extra $$$, but it's something to consider if you are on the fence about which model to get.

    Using M1 Max 32GB 4TB Monterey MacBook here, ( medium sized projects: around 150 tracks of vsti plugins and kontakt instances )
    Cubase 10.5 runs very smoothly, Logic on the other hand is a little buggy.
    Also all the VST plugins work in cubase but some AU plugins don’t work in Logic. I’m running everything thru Rosetta.
    Only thing I miss is Virtual Guitarist 2 which is a 32bit plugin and Slate VSX that doesn’t work on Monterey at all. Everything else runs smoothly.

    Lets have a little realitycheck here..90% dont need the Max version. I get it, it’s awesome to just get the best because then you know you have the most expensive one, but the max is in most cases, for most people overkill. The pro is the best bang for the buck without a doubt. And to be fair..if all you do is making music..even the regular M1 can probably handle all you throw at it within reasonable boundaries ofcourse. Whenever something like this comes out people tend to try and break it to see how much it actually handles, and then the viewers take that as a relatable issue to their own workflow..it’s not. With that out of the way, congrats on the Max 👍i would ofcourse get it too, not because i need it..i know i dont need it, but because i dont like to sit there thinking ; how much more does the most expensive one handle compared to mine..

    I use a PC and my friend uses a Mac. Both of us have, what I would consider, top spec loadouts. He has an M1 Max with 64GB RAM and 1TB SSD, I use a water-cooled 7950X with 64GB DDR5 running at 5600 MHz. Both of us can push the systems pretty hard but he can do it while drawing 60-80W for the entire system while my CPU alone will happily sit at 140W at the CPU alone(I have it slightly down locked). The rest of the system is probably drawing another 200W at a minimum, and can go as high as 4-500W if I'm doing anything video/graphic intensive. Granted, he paid more than 2K more for his than what I did, but his is dead silent, portable, and can probably run circles around my system at la fraction of the power draw.
    The M1 chip is truly insane.

      Just my opinion of course, but as someone that has spent a considerable amount of time on both Windows and Mac in this field, I choose Mac every time when it comes to audio. I have a fantastic custom built PC that I use for gaming that can do everything and more SPECS-wise as my Mac does, however the easiest way I can explain it is...
      "Macs just work". I rarely, if ever, have to bother with drivers, .dll problems, etc. Everything is always plug and play. Windows is also incredibly bloated with a bunch of annoying things pre-installed. You can install some of them, sure, but not all. AppleCare is also second to none.
      I get the bang for your buck argument when it comes to the specs, I truly do, and I've tried to make the switch to PC for production for this reason and I hate it in comparison every time.
