My luthier instructor told me a handful of years ago, said "That StewMac has done all the homework for you!" I've always remember that and have a lot of their tools. Their vise & stand with all the goodies! I use it all the time!
Never gonna go wrong buying quality tools !! You may save a little money buying a cheap tool at the point of purchase BUT it is gonna cost you more in the long run , when it doesn't perform a QUALITY job OR it is constantly breaking and needing to be replaced !!! Great video , Matt , with excellent info !!! Thanks for sharing!!
Texas Toast is the beez kneez. You frickin know that I will 1000 use your links. Really soon too. I got no choice. I can't keep paying people to do set ups. I've watched a million videos on it. It's time to jump June first.
String height action gauge: I have one by Siren that I got from Amazon, that's black with silver markings, which might make it easier to see, depending on your eyes. Magnifying headset: I just use reading glasses I got from Walgreens.
Reading glasses are good, but they are no match for the really up close loop. If it looks good using the loop, it will look perfect to the naked eye. That's just not true with readers. String action gauge will get you close, but you can't tell me the exact measurement. If close is good enough for you, then it's great.
"If Phil McKnight walks into my shop with a pair of pantyhose-" I can't be the only one that heard that and had a bad image conjured up in their head? 🤣
Holy shit, Lol, been using the string spacer wrong. Not using the opposing lines on the edge but just eyeballing. Thanks Matt. Just happened to read the same thing in the book im workin thru too, about 30min ago. CREEPY
Keep the videos coming. I've been tempted to send in my current build with a sticky note asking "what am I doing wrong here?" But usually, either you or Crimson Guitars already have a video addressing the issue.
Thanks so much Stu We try to bring out the best kind of information we know how and even remake things when it is time. Crimson also have tons of great videos... as you know. They are good company to be in.

Fret end dressing file is a must-have, for sure.

Already had most of this, but just ordered the nut slotting gauge with your link. Can’t say thanks enough for all the info you share on your channel.
Thanks so much Paul
Nice job Matt! Been collecting tools since last workshop. See in July

Great tool box Matt. It has taken a while for the student tool boxes to be so complete.
That 1175 fret end file is great. I use the same one and get nice ball ends on my frets with it.
