Bought my 03 GX470 164K miles off Copart for 4000 repaired and restored it I might have over budgeted but have zero regrets and absolutely love it I could careless if its a salvage title these trucks are immortal.
I agree; especially if you’re going to keep it and really use it. Congratulations on your GX and thanks for sharing!
im so happy to find out thru this video that there is a community for GX owners here in TX. im looking forward to getting an early GX460 or a 470 but most quite available nowadays are 460s. great content! already subbed
My favorite is the 2010-2013 GX460’s but I’m clearly biased 😂
Thank you guys. I'm a big Lexus enthusiast. My daily is a 2005 LS430.
I hope you log 1 million safe miles in it!! 👍🏽🎥🎬 That’s a classic keeper in my eyes.
@@CoastalGX Indeed. This one is a keeper. I came from driving a 96 BMW E36. But, this is my third Lexus. Iv'e owned two ES300's in the past. I love the GX's and LX too.
One of the best cars ever made man
I have the same car :) only 137,000 miles
Looking into getting a GX after selling my truck and this video is literally exactly what I needed to see! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 great content thank you so much!
I’m glad the testimonies were informative. Congratulations on your choice. You’ll be very pleased.
R u in US or Canada? I may sell my 05 GX 470 c/w 170k ‘Kms’ not miles. Good condition but I’m old & in need of a little gas miser. Let me know if you’re interested bro.
we just moved from flatland Texas gulf coast to The Ozarks of Arkansas. We quickly realized a need for 4wd!! We are selling our super bouji 13 highlander and had thoughts about going to the V8 TFR. After just a few days research, I quickly was turned on to the GX470! The consensus is that's a great marriage of function and comfort! Thanks for the video! I look forward to watching more of yours!
Congratulations on your GX and thank you for sharing. 🎥🎬
Prior to Covid the Lexus GX 460 were going for about 33K for a 3-year-old CPO.
No way! I got into the Toyota trucks during COVID and saw how good of a price the used gx460s were during COVID, but now knowing how cheap they were for a 3 year old gx, I’m gonna wait it out and buy my fam a new, low mileage gx! Thank you @jim carson
@@swishswoosh6556 No worries my salesman stated that earlier that year the drop was even better, I missed my deal by 2 days, I test drove in Sunday, and wanted to buy it on Tuesday, it was sold, super bummed, I did buy a GX 470 for 13K though, the only thing that sucks in the 12 mpg.
Damn, we just bought a 2010 460 with 105,000 miles for $24,300. Prices are crazy. First Lexus/Toyota and really like it so far except for mpg😂
@@shaggyfries Yeah my 470 gets 12 mpg. The gas gauge is always moving.
They’re starting to come back down. Turns out people don’t like 13mpg as a daily when gas is $6 and $100 doesn’t buy as much as it used to
That 470 rear tire carrier is soooooo sickkkkk
I can’t wait to update this video. My buddy in the grey GX got a custom swing out bumper that’s sure to impress. I just installed a Dobinsons dual swing out on mine and I will be uploading a video on it soon.
Excellent video! Fairly new to the GX world but have been loving mine for the better part of a year. Love the interviews and looking forward to more content!
Thank you and congratulations on your GX! I’ve been on hiatus (not voluntarily lol) but will be returning to the beach this weekend so expect new content soon! 🎬🎥
@@CoastalGX understand that! Looking forward to it brother. 🤜
Starting my GX470 purchase and build after owning a 5th gen 4Runner and 4th V8 4Runner. It's a different kinda beast.
Good luck! Should be easier now since there’s many more products and media on mods.
@@CoastalGX totally agree thx for the GX community like yourself.
To be honest, all of you are awesome for doing this video. Truly appreciate you guys. 👏👍
We appreciate your support! 🎥🎬👍🏽
Waw Robert now I am thinking on get a Lexus GX like yours hope and I can afore
God bless you and your family thanks 🙏 again
Some models are affordable and although it’s not the vehicle for everyone, it certainly is a good option foe people in the market. Thanks for the continued blessings, Juan. 👍🏽
Very tempting to convert. It’s thirsty but very capable.
The mods worsen the mpg!! I still love her very much ❤️
That grey GX is sick
He’s made even more improvements since then.
I'm about to buy a 2005 one owner perfect maintenance record, new tires, breaks, tire pressure sensors, and passed DEQ with tags for 2 years, inmaculate interior, with 119k miles. Guy is firm on $18,500. Anything else in my area is about $17,000 with 200k miles. I feel like I'm going to overpay a bit but with how new it looks I am ok with the 18.5k price. So excited to be overlanding in the next few months and looking forward to next winter andventures.
It’s a bit on the expensive side, but if the maintenance is above expectations, then perhaps you can justify it. It would probably be wise to hold on to it for a few years so you can extract all the joy from it 🙌🏽
@@CoastalGX yes, I'm planning on keeping it for at least 10 years to really get my monies worth.
@@ml989 That’s the smart way to do it 🙌🏽
I just snagged an 04 470 with 173k miles for $4700. Love these videos, I've got big plans already.
Congratulations!!! It’s a worthy canvass.
This video is on point. Was thinking 4runner until the recent hike in prices and used is just absurd. Stumbled across the gx460 and you've erased my bias that this was a grocery getter.
It’s definitely a viable option. Happy car hunting! 🎬🎥
It is literally a land cruiser prado but even better. You can find single owner used ones for like 20k and they're almost always just used as just grocery getters so even 100k miles city+hwy is nothing on this system compared to what its engineered to handle.
@SalsaRed is right about the motor. I too wish I could get the Prado 150 diesel but I should be grateful to have the solid V8 that it does have, it along with the 6-speed transmission are huge upgrades over the 4Runner. The hardest part about owning this truck is trying to keep myself from building it even bigger than I need it to be simply because I can haha. Great stuff, would love to see a follow up to this down the road, maybe a video touching on mods owners regret or what would they have done differently if they could go back in time. I know I already wish I could have done some things differently on mine.
Thank you for the excellent comment; I agree with the “regret” mod follow up video lol. I already regret the tire size and the insufficient lift that the Ironman suspension provided. Oh well, we live and we learn lol.
@@CoastalGX My Ironman FCP's were suggested to be set quite low from the factory, I had to go back twice and adjust preload to get the desired height. Unfortunately it has somewhat adversely effected the ride quality up front in comparison to how it rode initially. While I like the quality of the kit overall, I think I'll eventually be moving to an extended or long travel setup instead in the future. Bigger meats are always enticing but they come with drawbacks and you usually have to change/mod/upgrade three other things in order to make way for the one, lol.
Tex Lee did you gain more lift after the adjustment? Do you think I might benefit from that? I still get some rubbing and I feel like I need to do something about this.
@@CoastalGX I definitely gained more clearance above the tire in the front after adjusting the preload. I did it more for look and balance than clearance. I have a BMC and decent trimming in the front along with the bumper which also helps. I haven't had any rubbing with 285/70's on -10mm wheels. When I make the jump to 285/75's it's very likely that I will have some rubbing. What size tires are you running?
Tex Lee I have 285/75/17’s with a zero offset on NV 305’s (method racing wheels.) I flew to close to the sun lol.
Love this!
08 GX470 on 2.5 toytec boss lift with 17” TRD SEMA pro wheels in gunmetal 285/70/17 ko2 tires. It’s a great rig! With more mods to come...
Congratulations and thank you for sharing. I too am not finished. I have a few more mod vids coming.
Glad you're feeling better, good video...!
Thank you!!
Your group is so cool! Can't wait to get mine.
Solo and group adventures have their unique charms. Thanks for watching and good luck!
I like ur GX, it’s soooo smooth looking. I’m out in TX too… much love 🤠
Thank you. Suspension upgrades coming up! 🙌🏽🎥
I just got rid of a 07 JKUR, and bought a GX460. I was going to do a LS swap with a 6 speed... Getting a GX460 was actually a cheaper option. They're both about the same size, but the GX is MUCH more comfortable for road trips, and more than capable for what I'm going to be doing. With regard to the fuel mileage- Honestly, it's about the same as the JKUR. But it's with a V8 and a 6 speed. Now I'm excited to go on road trips and such.
Congratulations! I’m sure that Rubicon had its pluses over the GX. I also considered that model at one point, but like you, I also wanted a versatile vehicle. Sometimes we have to compromise and get the vehicle that best fits most of our needs. 🎬🎥👍🏽
Great video and nice to see all the DIY mods .
Had a super clean one owner (we were the second owners) 04 470 a few years back. 75,000 mi. Transfer case actuator seal was faulty/leaking on that year. 700 bucks to have the transfer case dropped and seal replaced. After that, car was amazing. 600 bucks to do timing belt, water pump plugs and wires at 95k. Sold it and picked up a clean 2010 460 w/ 95k. Overall, the 460 is nicer, but the 470 was superb in its own right. Slightly dated as opposed to the 460, but in hindsight, we would keep the 470 instead of moving on to the 460. If you can find a clean 470 specimen, jump on it! Just beware of the transfer case seal on earlier models.
Thank you for sharing your experience; not too many people have owned both models so this is really helpful.
Nowadays the seal is easier cheaper to fix than the way it way done then, many ppl fix it themselves. My 08 hasnt popped 197K
I really wish the GX had the split tailgate/hatch that the LC/LX has.
I’m torn with the design; it definitely has its pluses and minuses.
Or the 4 runner/tundra/sequoia roll down rear window .
@@ozzie3056 naw I don’t like rear hatches
The barn door makes it is easier to mount a second spare. On a hatch implementing the second spare is more expensive and cumbersome to use .
144k on my 2012 GX and idles smoother than any new car out there!
They are solid and dependable. Just gotta get used to the dismal mpg lol.
The GX exceeded my expectations I’m so glad I picked one up.
Congratulations!! I’m still very happy with mine. Kind of a pain at the Gad pump though lol.
@@CoastalGX they’re not great on gas but I have seen worst. Plus you can still haul some things if you need to.

I love/hate these types of videos.
I love these videos because I've been in the market for a GX of my own for the past year & I love to see all the sweet builds. My family and I love road trips, camping, and the outdoors & I also love comfort & reliability as well.
I *hate* these videos because the secret is out. The demand is rising and so are the prices. 👎 No bueno.
So to all potential buyers I say "get a 4runner instead!" 😉😄😄😁
This is a very honest comment and I can relate. Potential buyers need to hit up those soccer moms with the 2015 and older models. Buyer: “I can take that off your hands so you can buy yourself a stylish BMW.” Lol
No way. Gx470 4 life!
@@alonzokincaid1362 Not bad. I ended up purchasing a 2013 GX460 back in December 2020.
I really would like a 460 for the timing chain, but they are so scarce in Hawai’i (used & new)
You may have to track down a nonoffroading civilian and straight up ask them if they’re willing to sell their lightly used GX! Lol. Thanks for watching all the way in Hawaii!!
Love my gx. I feel like I’m in a tank when I’m behind the wheel. I Bought A black 1, 2006 with 90k miles. The biggest repair I had to make was a failing master cylinder. And that was a few months ago, I’ve had the truck since 2015 lol
I can relate to that. I had a Lexus is350 before the GX. The brakes had some bite the very first time I had to stop quickly. Scared the 💩 outta me! Lol
very cool i am seriously considering getting a gx, probably a 470. cheers
Solid choice 🎥
I was joking with my friend talking about my stock GX470, when you have the snorkel you have checked every box on the want list.
Im in Houston. The snorkel is the first thing on the list if you live here. Our city becomes a lake every year
@@monkeyboy480 Yeah I know it is regional, I live in So Cal. so it is last on the list.
Just got a ‘14 w/95k!
Sweeeeet!! 🙌🏽🤩
Such great content, man.
Much appreciated 🙏🏽🎥🎬
At 2:20 the guy made a smart choice with the Lexus.
I agree!
Awesome video. Some really cool stuff. Never thought a GX could be modified so well. I have a few questions: when lifting, how does that interfere with the factory hydraulic lifting mechanism (high, neutral, low). Also have u guys installed front n rear lockers (and cost pls). How does GX perform in snow?
Hi there; the GX has an airbag option. The hydraulic system is probably the KDSS and all you need to do is take a couple of steps in turning the screws on the kdss system before and after the lift install. I haven’t looked into getting lockers, but I imagine they cost a pretty penny. I barely had the chance to drive it in some snow a few weeks ago and it performed very well. Join the GXOR Facebook page and you’ll find just about anything topic related. Thanks for commenting!
They don’t really need lockers unless you’re in nasty stuff. ATRAC is amazing. I’ve had double locked rigs but got over a few tough obstacles today in low with the center diff unlocked just using ATRAC. Work even with tires up in the air.
Stick below 2.5” of lift to use the KDSS system. Treaty Oak Offroad has KDSS spacers to level the bar post lift and prevents KDSS lean.
I am a big fan of the air bags. Airbag Man in Australia makes 2”’lift bags for the rear. Rear shocks are fine to retain. Slap some Dobinsons +2” front struts on and you’re set.
Amazing!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks brother! One day we’ll do an update.
That was LOGAN KING he mentioned int eh video that had the ladder and showed how to do it..
Excellent video on all the GX models, maybe consider ordering a rear door from South Africa, they have the spare wheel mounted to the rear door (all in one)
Thank you! I’m not sure if the cost for the door, freight, bodywork, etc would be cost effective vs an aftermarket bumper. I ended up importing an Australian Dobinsons dual swing out bumper and it’s pretty solid.
Trading in my 2018 4dr wrangler(lease in positive equity... times are weird, may as well) for a 2012 GX 460 - SO STOKED
Im so excited for you!! I know I may be biased, but the 2010-2013 models are my personal favorites. I just know you’re going to love it. Congratulations
@@CoastalGX Thank you! Yes! And love seeing your mod videos! It's got 112k miles on it but a its 1 owner, very clean, and has stellar service records and just had spark plugs, timing, radiator hose, and water pump replaced + fluids done. Was looking at a 2013 with lower miles @ 60k too but it had multiple owners, seats were in worse shape, and service records were much more sparse... I can't wait to have the 2012 delivered!
@@jeslynlanethat’s so awesome; I’m working on the front bumper and winch mod video right now.
Officially looking into a GX thanks to your channel. Any concerns of buying used with 100k miles?
I would look for that pink dry residue underneath. Check where the transmission area is. I made a little video talking about The Valley plate leak. Thanks for the support and good luck on your hunt. I think you’ll be very happy with it.
Awesome video, and even more awesome GXs. I'm gonna buy a GX in about a month or so. I was set on the 470 but now I kinda want a 460. 🤔
No doubt you’ll be very happy with either model. I personally prefer my GX460, but that’s just my opinion. Lol.
Get the 470, it has the 4.7 engine l which is the most bulletproof in the world
Great video, are the GX vehicles bigger or same size as a 4 runner? Sequoia size? I’m just trying to learn more about these for possible future purchase.
Good question; The GX is just a little roomier than a 4Runner but definitely smaller than a Sequoia. One interesting thing is that my GX shares the exact floormat dimensions as a 4Runner (weathertech.)
Nice to the point , no “Hollywoodized” production
Thanks

@@CoastalGX it actually is a rouged ridge tire carrier built for an TJ jeep I adapted it to the GX 470. Rouged ridge stopped making that model recently, it was very inexpensive! Anybody here experienced the dreaded coolant valley leak flaw yet? If so, approximately how much did you pay for the repar? Considering dumping my GX altogether from pure disappointment. Change my coolant regularly and still happened. Just killed the trust I had in my Gx
Yes, at least two of us have. I have a video on that. Expect to pay $1600 to $2200 on that repair. It doesn’t only impact the GX, btw. Tundras, Land Cruisers, Sequoias etc have reported the same issue. It’s not a mileage thing, but more of an “age” cause as the seal deteriorates at around 10 years. Good news is that it’s a slow leak that gives you time to save up. Still, I can’t believe Toyota doesn’t simply do a recall on this BS.
@@CoastalGX thanks for responding so fast! I have same feeling about them doing a recall as well, its unbelievable. My wife had a 2005 RX330 that had the melting dashboard flaw and Lexus did a recall for that, but not the coolant valley leak which is insane. Also, my GX is a 14…..exactly 10 years old🤦♂️
do you guys still have the original bumper spoiler? i've been looking for that thing for a long time.

@@CoastalGX both front and rear. i have the 2020. but i believe the 2019 and possible all the way to the 2013 might fit

It’s been a while since I’ve shopped for a roof rack. I have a Frontrunner slimline 2. It’s been good to me so far. Some friends have the Prinsu and it’s much cheaper in price. It’s hard to see about a GX tbh. I would definitely buy used and unmolested. Save money that way and build to your specs as you go. As you can see, I’m still working with on mine. Happy hunting!!
wow you guy have the money for it. I'm in canada, alot ask for 15,000$ for it and the repairs even more
They are relatively inexpensive for what they offer. I understand that some vehicles are unattainable; I wanted a new Land Cruiser, but bought a much cheaper GX. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment! 🎥🎬👍🏽
@@CoastalGX you feel like you're missing out not getting the LC considering it won't be shipped here anymore?
@@kevinbailey3239 it crosses my mind, but I’m one of those type of people who is happy with what I own. A LC wasn’t in the cards for me and I’m ok with that. As a child, I wanted a Porsche 959, but that’s not happening either lol. I hope LC owners hang on to their machines and take care of them. Vintage cars are so special and I feel the vast majority of younger people are forgetting about them.
Any chance you could add a link to the kit for the GX470 rear bumper?
I don’t have the info myself, but send Michael a message on Instagram. He is salsared_gx.

I can almost guarantee the champagne 460 is exceeding the roof load capacity
Let’s see…let’s do some quick maths.
Spare: 60lbs
Tent: 30lbs
Propane: 40lbs
Two full jerrycans: 80lbs
Awning: 30lbs
Rod tube w/rods: 15lbs
Recovery boards: 8lbs
Frontrunner 11gallon full water tank: 80lbs
Tackle box: 10lbs
TOTAL: 353lbs
Static Weight limit: 660lbs
Dynamic weight limit: 300lbs
The trip to the beach slightly exceeded dynamic weight limits, but let’s face it, there ain’t no crazy maneuvers going on here. The static is a hefty 660lbs so no issues there. So here’s an update! I now have the spare on my Dobinsons rear bumper along with two jerrycans so that issue is resolved. The roof rack is a Frontrunner slimline 2.
Awesome video...as always. What's the difference in your view between the 460 and the 470? I live the V8 power and can live with the mileage. But the price difference is interesting. Thank you sir!!
I’m one of those people that LOVES all vehicles, but I am partial to the 2010-2013 GX’s. I am not a fan of the spindle grills. One thing I didn’t want to deal with on the gx470 was the timing belt replacement. The gx460 uses a timing chain instead of a belt.
470 is a steel block and 460 is aluminum block.
470 not as reliable. Suspension issues, timing issues . 460 more bullet proof and longer lasting
GX over a 4Runner?
That’s a personal choice, but I feel there’s more bang for the buck with a GX. The v8 power is smooth too.
Check out the arq 270 awning i love mine. And price is good.
Looks reasonably priced. Have you tested it in a high wind situation?
@@CoastalGX yes its does pretty good. If you are in the Houston area we can open it up. Or if i head down to padre to check on my brother I’ll drop you a line either way. I met the y2tr overlanding guys this passed weekend at overland expo.

How can I get in touch with the San Antonio GX community?
Hi there. I suggest you join the Facebook GXOR page. Introduce yourself and hopefully some members respond.
Where can I get info on Pilgrim_GX’s wheel and tire setup? Thanks.
I don’t know the measurements, but they are rhino wheels with Falken Wildpeaks.
Video camera has accurate color with good contrast and focus. What model camera did you use?
I use two gopro 7 blacks, but a few shots were taken with my Sony a6300 mirrorless camera. I render my projects in HD and that's probably why they appear the way they do. Most cameras will do the job, but the final rendering technique makes a difference. Thanks for watching.
@@CoastalGX Nice. GoPro 7 Black features and cost is the best value in GoPro's current lineup.
so, has anyone put a roof tent on the OEM crossbars that are on the Lexus GX460? Can they handle the weight of the tent & 1 person sleeping in it? If anyone knows?
I don’t think so. Most aftermarket roof racks have a weight limit on them that allows for the extra weight.
@@CoastalGX yeah it says 175lbs, so I would think if weight is distributed on 2 of them, that would be 350lbs. I suppose I should add a third bar just to be safe.
@@vannerdherd see if you can look into the "static" and "dynamic" weight specs. Offroading will cause more stress on your rack setup and potentially cause you problems. So 175 may be ok when you are parked, but not when you're breaking or flexing.
What are the wheels and specs on the red GX470 ?
@salsared_gx is the owner. I’m not sure on the specs. Try him on Instagram 😎
Is the Gx still quite inside with more aggressive tires?
Yes, but nowhere near stock. I was concerned about the noise since I need my audio to be clear for the videos. I added sound deadening material to the body when I removed the third row.
Tell Mike to put a new shirt on bro...
Lol
Not a 4 cylinder diesel? A Cummins 3.9 4 cylinder with a turbo could provide all the power you need. And there’s lots of those running around in other vehicles so they are easy to find and not too expensive.
The GX’s are also known as Toyota Land Cruiser Prado’s in other markets. They do offer a 3 litre turbo diesel. Only v8 gasoline engine in the US though.
@@CoastalGX I only wish I could get my LX with a diesel. Guess I’ll have to keep saving up for a 200 series tho.
What do you think of the tundra crew max trucks
I have a 2021 SR5 crewmax tundra trail edition and want to use it on the beach
No doubt your truck can make it easily out there. I noticed that the new Tundras don’t have recovery points upfront and that’s very confusing to me. I feel some manufacturers sacrifice functionality for aesthetics.
Did any of you guys experience the kdss lean ?
Yes, after we replaced the stock suspension. We had a very slight lean, but nothing extreme.
How much did Gabe paid for his 2014 Base GX? Used GX is so expensive in Pacific Northwest?
I paid 30k👍🏼

Eventually Im going to get new rims/tires, whats the biggest tire I can get with no lift? Thanks in advance
You can’t go much larger stock because you’ll probably be loaded up. I suggest you check with the tire shop first. I only have 34’s and had to do a 2.5” lift with an aggressive body chop.
@@CoastalGX Thank you for the recommendation!
@@CoastalGX If you don’t mind me asking, what tire/wheel setup do you have? I see you have bronze rims which I want for mine, the bronze/white combo looks sleek, currently have some F-Sport rims the last owner threw on.
@@J_Eusebio sorry for the delayed response. I’m using 285/75/r17 BFG K02’s. Love them for what I do.
@@CoastalGX No worries bro, thank you for the information!
I'm thinking of the 470, what spec options does it need to have to be capable off road?
It’s off-road capable out of the box! Mods can help, but these machines were designed to off-road straight out of the factory. Think about what you want to do with your GX first and then start building it for your specific needs. 🎥🎬👍🏽
@@CoastalGX yes but are there variations of lockers or some systems that ones have and others don't? Depending on specd at the dealer
They only have a center diff lock. I know my gx460 has atrac and that aids in reducing wheel spin (not quite a locker.) The gx460 has kdss and that helps with articulation while off-roading. It also helps stabilize the vehicle on road. The GX 470 has older tech than the gx460 so most models don’t have kdss.
Thanks Roberto! I've been wondering about the gas mileage. I know that when I go up with suspension height, tire size, and loosing "rake," my mileage will decrease. I enjoy mileage in the 20's with my 300hp V6. Have you checked your mileage before and after?
There is a definite reduction in mpg. I average 12mpg from 18-20 stock.
@@CoastalGX That's not too bad. "My other truck" is a 69 C10, (my dad bought new) lowered and modded, with a 383/450hp stroker, and it gets about
@@ITigerbaum great classics. I used to drive a 69 C10 to High School in '86 lol. Obnoxious and loud. It loved to shift into reverse on its own just to keep me on my toes.

Just wondering if most of these GX 460 vehicles have the crawl control or just the stock all time 4 WD?
They are full time 4wd so you won’t be doing any donuts with them lol. All kidding aside, SOME come equipped with “crawl control” (option) but many people have the module installed or just do it themselves (videos online.) That is a mod I’ve considered, but I would rather save the money and get real lockers.
@@CoastalGX you mean you do the crawl mod yourselves? I’m thinking of getting that new night edition in nori green, but it doesn’t have the crawl control option, however the luxury edition does. However that adds an additional almost 10 grand. Was wondering if I would be missing it. I live in Maryland but we don’t get a ton of snow, but I do go to places with lots of snow. You think I’d miss it? Never owned a Lexus of any kind. Also the green is a killer color, just don’t want to pick the car just based on color, though tempting. Thanks
@@Cocora22 yes, installing CC is possible for us if we want to buy and install the parts. I don’t have it, but my primary terrain is the beach and I’ve never had a need for it. But like anything, I would rather be ready for any adventure. I like all colors but I swore never to buy a black vehicle again because they are a pain keeping them clean.
@@CoastalGX i totally agree. Never again black!
$8k for a 2003 Lexus GX470 135,000 with maintenance history gaps, potential need for water pump/timing belt, and needs new tires. Good deal or hold off?
Those are low miles for that year. If it’s mechanically sound and has no major rist issues, I’d say it’s a good buy.
@@CoastalGX turns out the bottom is terribly rusted & covered in spray paint. Test drove it though and definitely know I want one. The hunt continues!
Patrick Cagney I’m sure you’ll find one. You may need to go stalk some soccer moms that are ready for an upgrade lol. Jk, don’t stalk anyone!! 🤣
Which beach did you guys meet up at?
We met at the entrance to Padre Island National Seashore in Corpus Christi. Then we drove south to the port Mansfield cut.
@@CoastalGX thanks, it looks beautiful!
What’s the difference between a GX460 and GX470?
The 470 is the older model and therefore has more outdated features. It also has a timing belt instead of a chain so less maintenance on the 460 there. The 470 weighs less by 300lbs but has less power than a 460. The 460 comes standard with KDSS where the 470 had it as an option. Both are great vehicles, but my choice was the 2010-2013 GX460 body style. Sandy, my ride, is a 2012 and only has 68k miles right now. It also has cooled and heated seats and reverse camera. Power third row. It’s right for me so I hope you find the right fit for you. 🎥🎬
@@CoastalGX Thank you! I am in the Dallas area so you guys were "tooo" far away. I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee that we have built to the max and its fun on the trails but not really fun for much else out side of that. I have a 2020 Raptor as my daily and wouldn't want to get it out on the trails... I do like the idea of heated and cooled seats and all of the nice luxury features in a GX. How big can you go with the tires before you have to worry about the front half shafts and the rear axle. Once you have the clearance worked out.
@@Captain-Awesome sounds like a fun XJ! I have 33.8” tires on mine and we had to do some chopping even though we installed a 2-3” suspension lift. I’d say these things are happy right at 33” or slightly under. Many GX470’s roll with 35’s but I honestly don’t know why it’s more commonly found with 470’s. My ride is also my daily so I pushed it as far as I thought was rational and didn’t sacrifice road noise or the ride.
@@CoastalGX Thank you!! That’s very helpful. Sandy is a great looking rig! I like the wheels you went with.
What are the best product out there to protect the paint while off roading? My GX is black.
I don’t use anything on the body paint. I recently bought some POR15 for the frame to treat rust. I haven’t even had the time to do it though 😂
