The "Now excuse me as I use all caps for the title of this video" was such a baller line!
Lmao 😎
The movie feels incomplete now without this sequence. It gives much more character depth to Mewtwo and ties in nicely with the tears scene at the end of the movie too.
You can really feel Shudo's influence in full force in the early Pokemon movies and early seasons of the anime. Everything just felt more comical but also darker in tone. The show really toned down starting in the Advanced Generation/Gen 3 which more or less acted as the first of many soft reboots.
The movie is a result of late changes. The movie was supposed to be the end of Ash's journey where he faced off Team Rocket and Giovanni etc. There's a trailer that showed this but they changed it because the execs wanted to keep milking Ash.
I feel like the they started to make a little more friendly in the Sun and Moon series, because in some movies and even in the anime (Like Diamond and Pearl, XY, and even some Pokemon movies like Lucario, 3 legendary pokemon of Diamond and Pearl still have some darker scenes, don't get me wrong sun and moon have some scenes and there that was still some little dark parts but they really exaggerates comic relief in that anime)
For what it’s worth, I interviewed Michael Haigney (who adapted the movie) last year, and after the interview pointed him to footage from this. He didn’t recognize it. At all. This suggests the film started adaptation before it was available. It’s even possible the footage was made available so late they would have had to call voice actors back in.
Thank you for being more fair than…most would be.
Great video Gator EX, and I think one important reason Pokémon do not include it in the movie on platforms like Netflix or Pokémon TV is because there are many countries who never dubbed that short (mini-movie) into their languages. Alot of work and money to dub it into many different languages that maybe Pokémon doesn't think is worth the effort when it comes to expand the Pokémon brand today.
Wow! I hadn’t considered that and didn’t think to look that up. But that’s a really good thought. Makes sense!
It’s not that “a girl and Pokémon friends died so it’s dark,” it’s “the scientist that made the little girl wouldn’t get over the IRL death of his daughter so he tried to recreate her and became obsessed with doing so when his wife just wanted him to stop and come home so it’s dark.” He chose to recreate his daughter digitally instead of accept and mourn the loss of her. That’s dark.
Tbh I don’t even know if the English dub has the scientist family storyline BECAUSE it was dark and fricked up. You can’t just say “oh well a fake girl died and mewtwo lost his friends” or “scientists died in explosions and that’s worse.” That’s ignoring a very key part of the short as a whole.
What did you or anyone who reads this think about the scientist dad’s motivations and his plot point? Did you like it? Dislike it? Not see it?
Another thing that might have worked against it in Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is that they would have had to create additional models for the characters and locations in that scene (notice how they didn’t remake the short either). I think I would have preferred it to most of the stuff they did add, though.
WAIT THIS EXISTS?!? How?!? I never knew this happened!!!
There's a lot of Pokemon lost media due to censorship and exec decision. The OG script of this film was much darker and the main antagonist was Giovanni using Mewtwo like in the series where he was controlling him with a machine and the point was freeing Mewtwo in the movie so Giovanni would lose. But that was too dark.
oh boy! i thought it was a short😅 nice viideo!
Thanks 😆
So we aren’t going to talk about the fact that 2 ultimate lifeforms gave the same backstory
Hey would you look at that i'm early on something,
I found the Uncut story of Mewtwo's Origin on some angelfire site in like 2000. It was fully dubbed in English and everything. I've always wanted a U.S. extended version of this on DVD or Blu
Saw the first pokemon movie when it first came out in 99'. I can live without it.
Cetoddle chain. We start again and have our revenge.
Cetitan
@@GatorEX Cetoddle.
huh?
I always found it weird that it was included in the sequel special features, and not the main movie, even as a bonus deleted scene, or short, but I'm glad American audiences even got it at all. So many times we don't get special stuff like this.
I knew that.
😎
Wait. . . I remembered that scene!
The most sad part of this entire special is AmberTwo vanishing.
No, if you watch it as an adult or a parent the most sad part is the scientist who couldn’t accept his daughter had died irl so he went and become obsessed trying to create a fake version of her instead of mourning the loss of said daughter and returning home with his wife to grieve. Obsession over something that isn’t even real once the real one had passed on and refusal to accept it no matter what. THAT’S sad.
Idk if this plot point even made it to the English version it was so sad,
@@chaocobojun2098 It most certainly made it to the english. It's just very hard to find now, and ScrewTube deleted all the dubs on here.
Feels like an alternate timeline. Didn't know this existed until a few years ago.
Well in my country I watched mewtwo's origin dub in our language. So I was one of the few people who knows about mewtwo's origin😅
Ah, yes. The secret horror opening to the 1sr Movie. Honestly, I think it was a good idea to cut this segment for the English release. Sure its no darker than Mewtwo's rampage in the beginning, but did it really add anything to the narrative? The most it does for me is give some haunting background for the clone starters. I dunno, I think they should limit it to one child death per movie.
My very hot take is that it hurts the weight of the scene where Mewtwo wakes up. I prefer Dr. Fuji’s motives for leading the project to be purely for the sake of science, basically seeing if it was possible, then being confronted with the power of what they created. Along with Mewtwo only ever dreaming of flying as a new in the wild and the first actual interaction with humans being a bunch of faceless people who treat it like an experiment and don’t really acknowledge its humanity.
Oh boy. People are still discovering this lost media. Fun Fact: The Movie had heavy changes done to it. The original script was much darker.
Personally, this scene adds so much debt to mewtwo. I theorize young mewtwo was a supposed to be representation of mewtwo’s innocence before he was born. When he comes out all grown up and furious, it represents mewtwo’s loss of innocence after being treated coldly by the humans, completely they unlike how the girl treated him so lovingly in beginning.
Wait it's almost the movie's anniversary?
Basically all Pokémon movies release during July in Japan.
@@GatorEX Cool didn't know
It’s very sad and very important
I wonder if it was released on tv... I remember seeing it for some reason... maybe it wad released on tv... idk 😂
Can I just start by saying that baby mewtwo is the cutest thing ever! This short was so sweet and heartbreaking, a must watch when watching the movie for me at least.
lmao
I would have preferred to have seen Mewtwo’s origin story in theaters over Pikachu babysitting Togepi and pulling Charizard’s head out of a tub in that ridiculous Pikachu’s Vacation short.
WHY DID THEY CUT THAT BUT NOT ASH DYING!?!?!?
It is not removed in the Indian version movie 😘
You look different then Your UA-cam mascot.
mew was not pregnant and mewtwo was never a child it was made by dna from mew and if mewtwo was really a kid then explain how it could have been a kid if it was created in a lab
Good point, but it is cartoon entertainment after all. Not everything can be life accurate.
