I loved it all in real time, I like watching while I’m crocheting, or swatching pencils myself.... or for drifting off to sleep.... so thank you!

These are one of my favorite pencils, and pretty much all reviews I have seen agree.
Ironically, the Derwent youtube channel replied they are not planning to expand this range at the moment. I wish they did low saturation gray colored tones or something unique. They are sitting on a pile of gold…

I agree an expanded set would rival Prisma and maybe even the mighty Luminance and Holbein ( they feel like a Holbein but perform like Luminance).

@@PursuingHeaven I completely agree! These are every bit as good as the Faber Castell Polychromos in my view, and I actually like them better than Prisma performance-wise! A wide range of colors with more of those subtle, unique, desaturated colors (as @vilvile said) - which Derwent tends to do beautifully - would be a dream.

I have used these for years, they are absolutely fabulous. I wish they would release more colours too.

They are lovely pencils. Currently using them over markers for Matchstick Mouse's summer adventures. They are great for fur.

I just got the full set a couple of weeks ago. I got the Chinese White open stock and loved it so I decided to try the whole set. I haven't really used them yet on a page except for swatching after I received them in the mail. But they do lay down like a dream.
Love your rainbow blend there Claire.
I hope Derwent will consider expanding the color range.

They are wonderful pencils and I love working with them. I haven’t used them in colouring books yet - your vintage picture is lovely, that’s perfect for them! Thanks for the review, I love watching reviews of my favourite art supplies 😊

The Derwent blender is far superior to the Prisma. I only used the Prisma for years.. but after testing multiple blenders on multiple pencil formulas the Derwent came out on top. It's also nowhere near as scratchy or remove pigment like the Prisma. The Carandache full blender worked amazingly well but only on certain pencils. The Derwent blended everything.

I recently got the 100 Lightfast pencil set, I find the lack of a scale of Cold and Warm Greys a bit of a stumbling block but I’m getting used to the greys. There aren’t really any lighter/brighter hues of any of the colours so I am combining them with my Polychromos. I have a few favourites of them so far which don’t really have Polychromos equivalents.

Gorgeous pencils. Thanks for this great demo. I definitely want them.

I have to say I found that finished rainbow to be ravishingly beautiful. If you work it up as a silk scarf with identical pigments and blend, I'll wear it out on my walks in the woods in November.
I've been shamelessly desiring these pencils since I saw the first demo of them. I love their trueness to natural life, and since I love "coloring" (that is, working with color in my hands) but not coloring books, and I'm just learning to draw, that pushes me toward natural landscape, where color subtlety and blenInd

. . . blending are prominent but dead accuracy isn't, necessarily. Just these woodland sketches like the one on the box wake up my heart.

So happy you did this review. I have order a set and your video came at a wonderful time. Could you do a video on how you coloured the picture coloured.

  • @waymire01

I've been tempted by these for the beautiful colors, but the formula is so different I'm not sure how they would play with others. I just can't deal with a 24 set.

    • @cazkiwinz4300
      @cazkiwinz4300 2 роки тому +3

They are so lush and you’ll love them, they play beautifully with Polychromos and Luminance/Lightfast and being a 24 set, they’re cheaper to buy outright as a set than the bigger ones (if you have full set syndrome... a 24 set still satisfies that itch if 24 is the limit you can buy, lol!)... but...they are so lovely, yes, you’ll wish you had more but the colours they do have are so divine anyways! Get them, you won’t regret it.... and the 24 Graphitints pencils are worth it too.... I love Derwent sooooo much!

I broke down and bought my 24 set when Amazon put them on a limited sale for $44. They smell good enough to eat. 😊
I went back to find this video as the best demonstration I found, just browsing for pencils earlier. I have the Derwent blender and burnished pencils, and I like them very much with these pencils. I've come to like blenders better than wet solvents over time.
I have one question: what's your best advice for paper with this pencil? I have some not too great drawing papers, thick and toothy as I have used for Arteza and Prismacolor, and the Derwent Drawing Pencil seems to drag on the surface, like it's reluctant to lay down. Since everybody is singing about how buttery these lovelies are, it must be the paper. What are your recommendations?
Also, if I did want to add some colors, do you think the Derwent Coloursoft would be a good compatible pencil for texture, blendability, and so forth? Seems quite similar by the description of the colour soft performance.
    Thanks!

Finally you have them too😂😍these are one of my favourite colored pencils! I've never used prismacolors before;; are derwent drawing as soft as prismas?
I've heard, derwent won't expand the color range from derwent drawing, because they want a unique set with limited colors.

I remember trying a few of these in a little set that also came with some graphite pencils, and enjoying using them SO much! It's such a shame they don't have a fuller range of colors, or I think I would make these my go-to, honestly.

Although Sanguiine is a dull shade of red, it just isn't possible to make this equal to their different shades of blue and yellow which can be blended successfully. Red is an essential primary colour, which features widely in floral and Autumn leaves. I have told the company.

I finally bought these the other month, and sadly, haven’t used them, but watching this has definitely made me want to break them out and play with them. They are such a beautiful set and I am not sure why Derwent hasn’t made more. I’d buy more in a heartbeat if they did.

You say in the review that they are available as open stock. While that is true, the vast majority of local retailers only carry them in sets. The reason for that might be the price as individually they are a bit on the expensive side. With both Faber Castell and Caran d Ache being the leaders in quality and price, Derwent, while being good pencils, would do well to bring the price down. More sellers might then think about carrying open stock. Then they might be worth thinking about.

For me, the black of the Drawings is more of a matte black than that of the Prisma or Luminance, which makes it look perhaps less black because it is less shiny

I know you live in England. Have you gone to Derwent and seen the museum/shop there? I want a coloring person's point of view. Do you think the Lightfast are most similar to the Drawing pencils?

I think they probably are, but they don’t feel that much alike. Maybe the colour soft would be closer, but again feel quite different.

Have you evaluated any of the Castle pencils? As a real beginner I bought pencils I really didn’t know anything about. I owned the Prismacolor from many years ago but really didn’t know their qualities until I started coloring. I purchased the Pasteltint set from Castle because I never have enough of those in any set. I purchased the set of 120 Castle pencils and the Castle Gold.

I love these! I really can’t choose which brand and range of pencils I like the most, each on it’s own. (I have full sets of lightfast, luminance, pablo & Polychromos beside Derwent drawing pencils). I always feel that I betray the other ones if I like one range better 😂. Love your review.

Do you use a different sharpener for these pencils or does it fit in your usual one? I tried the tgaal but they don’t fit in the hole. I don’t want to use the dahle bc i think the point would be too long and break too easily. Any suggestions?
