@@stanleybochenek1862 They can't: the Hammer Map Editor has a finite limit to map sizes, & one that probably will never be made bigger nor _could_ be made bigger even if Valve wanted to.
There used to be a spaceship MMO gamemode a long time ago (I think 2007-2008) that pulled this kind of stunt. To make star systems and a lot of content fit into source map size they made the ships and all the models tiny and stuck the camera real close.
Yup gm spacebuild. Played it as a kid very intuitive game. Used wire mods and some engine/rocket mods that had stuff like fuel mix, air scrubbers, gravity feilds, weapons... it was basically Gmod Kerbal Space program.
i couldn't understand Spacebuild all that much when i was younger. mainly because i didn't understand wiremod all that much and thought it was a simple building gamemode.
mans a genuis, now you just take all the other maps you like, make a "map models" out of them, place them in a map of your choosing, perhaps GM_dark or flat grass so you can change the lighting to your liking. place the models however you want then shrink down and ta-da you can now explore, like, fifteen maps all glued together, or hell, make your own city. its that movie where, due to overpopulation, people can pay to have themselves shrunk down to live in small model cities
at first my brain was confused and thought you made the skybox and the map the same and then put it inside itself, but this is fucking awesome as well as the plot of downsizing 2017
I recall a map some time ago where you start off in a room and there's a miniature of a city on the table. As you walk out of the room you're actually walking out of one of the buildings on this miniature city. Like you could place a can on the table inside and when you walk outside it appears as a giant can in the middle of the street.
omg I still have this map installed on my gmod lmaoo I never use it anymore and I think I actually uninstalled it cuz of that but it was fun to play around with until it wasn't
I like what I see, I have a question Does the player resizer affect the weight of the player? for example if you are small you cannot pick up small things like a can, watermelon, or boxes and when you are too big you can grab train vehicles and break things more easily due to the weight?
maybe if the mods required for prop sizing, vehicle sizing, basically everything sizing, there might be a chance we could then make garry's mod an open world by making everything tiny, getting the biggest size u can on gmod maps, and make the actual size of (example) City with towns and huge highways, it would be awesome !
Seeing the I PICKED UP THE WORLD video, then the player resizer video, then this in that order feels like a story line that just came to its conclusion
Reminds me of when i was playing gmod and using noclip to fly around and i accidentally found the game's miniature skybox models. And that's how i learned that a lot of source games use miniatures blown up to scale for the skybox
There was a story I read like this. Don't remember the name but it was about a guy obsessed with his Halloween model set that he eventually ends up in it and all the creatures try and kill him only for his wife he's been neglecting destroys it in a rage then when walking towards the edge of town, she falls to her death as she was part of an even bigger model.
you made a small prop sized (whats what it seems like) version of a section of Big City without it lagging? nice also i thought it was going to break like all the maps that usually have physics objects that break
I've realized this is the perfect video to return to after seeing the Infinite Map progress. Thoughts on how functional putting prop maps everywhere would be?
hey, is it possible that you could use metaballs instead of the slidy blocks on water? i feel as though it would look a great deal more like water. also, how could one go about changing what the particles look like? thanks!
Ok so this is probably the most cringeist thing I’ll ever post on the internet but: “I heard ya liked gm_bigcity so I put a gm_bigcity inside yo gm_bigcity”
Railjack and archwing both, all space modes have the player scaled to .25, which is really odd when youd have massive containers at normal scale, and all the physics at normal speed, which looks really weird because it doesnt give the feeling of weight
what i wanna know is how you made the collisions accurate, considering the description of the mod says the collisions aren't accurate due to limitations
Im confused at to what is happenig here. Did you resize the character so the little map in the sky looks proportional to the player and then drop down to the real map?
This could be a way to make maps feel even bigger
Maybe but i wish garry or facepunch studios gave you an option to remove map limits to your map

said trailer being how i discovered trailerhead.
Sounds like Spacebuild.

Downsizing (2017)
That's exactly what I made, transformed an early gm_construct map into an model effect to make artworks in gm Black

Now I'm imagining a scaled down city 17 so that it can fit the 8km high citadel, ofc at the scale of the miniaturized player.
Now that would be epic. Imagine how cool that would be. A city 17 RP map with not only a fully modeled City 17, but a fully interorized Citadel.

weight is modified but picking up objects is not

how did you make the collisions accurate? the bigcity pice set page says that the collisions of the pices arent accurate at all so HOW?
