gm_construct_13_beta has probably the most secrets out of any map I've ever seen. Like, go anywhere and there will be a secret. Sometimes secrets even interact with other secrets, creating even more secrets. It's nuts.
I think it was tied in to an ARG, I have no idea if it’s still going on tho
My personal favorite is the baby, chair, radio puzzle. (Yes, this puzzle actually involves all three of those things.)

Boot and Giraffe room might be script closets. It's where devs place game objects that only have scripts attached to them. It's sometimes useful to have such scripts clustered in close proximity and the script closest are fun ways of keeping such game objects organized.
They’re also watermarks from what I’ve heard
3:20 In Flatgrass, there actually is a way to get in there without noclip. You can spawn a chair or a vehicle in the wall right where the area is, enter it, and get out. You'll probably be in that room. It takes sometime to get it right, but you'll get used to it. I do this glitch to make creations in sandbox servers in peace.

rp_evocity_v2d's cave doesn't crash if the map is run in Left 4 Dead, from what I've seen. It's likely the map was originally made for the pre-Orange Box Source engine

I remember meeting some of these people, and seeing this community shape over years. Happy to see it's starting to get a second breath.
There's more than meets the eye when it comes to Flatgrass, which was known as Flattywood before the areas deforestation was ordered by the US Department of Defense. Go goes that herbicides and eventually napalm were used to wipe the regions flora while billions of taxpayer dollars were invested in the construction of an expansive underground bunker and the excavatory leveling of the above ground. What remains is a mysterious and uncharacteristically flat restricted area deep within the American Great Plains, rumored to be testing grounds for classified experimental government technology. Though this backstory is subtlety hinted at through details like the Flattywood sign and the doll safe room that eludes to the inaccessible bunker below the map, it's highly unlikely that any of this plot would have ever been figured out or brought to light if not for the recent discovery of the Garry's Mod 13 Game Manual and Promotional CD, which was up until recently considered lost media.

I actually found most of these secrets on my own as a kid (I have about 2000 hours on gmod over the years) and I remember on big city on one of the main buildings there was a door that tps you up to the top floor of the building where there was a secret locked door with a passcode. I somehow managed to crack the passcode (which must have taken ages) which then opened up to a cctv room. There is also a. Other secret room near spawn.
fun fact: if you go under flattywood there will be a mini version of it that you can actually walk around in. if you spawn something there and go back up to the normal flattywood, you will be able see a giant version of it depending were you spawned it.

cs_747 has a secret room at the end of the walkway upstairs in the field where the aircraft is., the map author passed away a looooong time ago.

I remember when me and my friends would spend days at a time building maps in flatgrass, wed make so many easter eggs in there, and after we found wire mod recently we went and remade a favorite map of ours with wire mod and made more elaborate secrets. I miss doing that after school
Fun fact, there are two cities in the skybox of flatgrass. The second one is behind the flattywood hill, if I remember.

I remember a map that looked like big city. I found myself in some kind of subway, something similar to the subway from hl2, when leaving you could see a large open area with trees and a small house somewhere in front of the entrance to the subway, you could enter the house only through the button on the door and you were teleported straight to the second floor. you could turn to the left and go into some back alley with a fountain and a crashed helicopter that stood in front of an invisible wall. and the most interesting thing I remember is that on this map there was a well that was closed by a fence and terrible music was playing from it and the well led to caves.

I don't know if im crazy but recently i've been playing GMOD and while I messed around in FlatGrass Gman comes out of a white portal looks around and walks back in, weeks later I was messing around with some Slender Fortress Nextbots and he ran past me and to a gman watching me then leaving, it was scary since one was an official map and the other was Roblox Haunted Mansion
I remember getting the hotel jumpscare around 13 years ago, still remember it to this day.
Its insane when you look back at the times we played these maps, unaware of those secrets, weird feeling

Dude that’s wild! I remember playing a hunger games mode that used this map and I’d use that room to go all across the map. I didn’t realize, though I never saw anyone else in there, it was an obscure thing to know about
You can use different doors in the room to teleport to different areas of the map. A great advantage in a hunger games mode, though I one time trick

I was playing on the Super Garrys Mod sandbox server. Some guy joined and told me it was his first time playing and he didn’t know what to do. I told him to read the manual. He proceeded to ask me for twenty minutes how he was supposed to read the manual.

Spawn a Gman and inflate his head to max and you'll se a cat or something in his eyes.

There is a teleporter that teleports you to place that has 3 pyramids and a pond, and it's all just flatgrass, you can teleport back by going into the third pyramid, if you think I'm bullshiting then you're wrong
(Also you can spawn a big platform by using the office buttons)
If you go under the map in FlattyWood there is a tiny map which if anything placed it will show up in the original map

Didn't expect to see myself in here - hi!
The source of the act_dance animation is something I get emails about every so often, but I don't remember what it is myself; at the time, I had a huge stack of motion capture files from various sources, both from what I presume must have been royalty-free stock packages, and a bunch of DIY mocap made (at the time) on ipi/Kinect setups by friends. I don't know what the actual source of it is, but if the same dance clip showed up in completely unrelated productions, it must have been stock and not something made by anyone I knew.
And yeah, I ended up erasing those stupid messages in the textures out of embarassment; in my defense, I was 19 and this was my first, very informal gig 😛 in fact, that was exactly 10 years ago as of this month! Time flies.

The map gm_obselisk has apparently a secret in which you can summon a "god" in the sky by doing a series of obscure rituals, such as throwing 50-100 ragdolls down the pit. If you throw more down, it will kill you if you go too high up in the map

Richter, I feel sorry for you. You're able to kill the Alyx sniper much easier by using the SMG grenades crate after the first toxic waste area.
@Kross but then you realize you've lost the sniper support, even if it wasn't really needed in the first place other than just some help.
I was in the sewers of a dark rp server when I saw this figure quickly run by in the distance. I presumed it was another player and ran after them. I ran around the corner and this NPC monster teleported me to dark room and jumped scared me. Nobody on the server believed me. I eventually convinced an Admin to follow me and we found it again... even the Admin did not know it existed as the dark room was hidden well in the map.
What map was it?

I cant stand watching the stuff unless I mute it, I hate the "NPR storyteller" thing he pulls where he always tries to stretch words out and frame suspenseful questions about ridiculously unimportant details of maps and even entire indie games I've watched him play.

I'd describe it this way: He purposefully talks about details that most people don't talk about. That's the entire purpose of his channel. He describes things he sees how he sees them. That is literally it.
If you don't like that, then why are you there???
Edit: He also sometimes likes to make up little backstories to why something could be the way it is, in the context of a real situation.

I guess this can also explain the massive grass field in gm_construct's 3D skybox. I barely explored it, but it's pretty big for some reason, and a weird addition since the larger low-detail field is barely visible within the maps main boundaries.
10:15 From what it seems from the original Facepunch post from the creator of Evocity, when gmod updated to version 11 in Jan 2008 by updating to source 2007, the displacement around the cave opening got bugged. Before Jan 2008 the map worked perfectly fine. If you delete the displacement in hammer editor then compile the map the cave will no longer crash your game. I've tried it before.
Well then you have to decompile the map, presenting a whole shitload of other issues.
