Magnificent filming, EIS. The colours of the stone against the early sunlight...really very beautiful. Years ago, I'd spend a weekend in Oxford, staying in a room for the night where the landlady would bang open the door with a tray of an English breakfast and chat away as I, somewhat befuddled and under her eye, would eat the lot. Then I'd got out, wander. I went down the streets you showed, and into narrow alleyways, where I once picked a large pink flower - an hibiscus, perhaps - and placed it in the middle pages of a book I was reading (to find it years later still there, compressed). This is what can rise up in your memory in looking at your work.
So quiet and empty are the streets at this early hour.no-one alights from the buses and no-one mounts. The buildings are magnificent.I love the windows with the ancient wavy glass. I hope ou stopped for a well deserved cup of coffee after your walk.☺️🙏🏻
Indian here. I have never travelled in spite of being old enough. Life is just too busy. I really appreciate how beautiful and balance nature and man-made structures are in developed nations. And videos like yours help us use modern tech to experience these amazing places. I really appreciate how distraction-free your videos are and the high quality camera you use. Natural colours and immersive sound. Keep sharing more!
Bonjour! I can imagine it has changed and also not changed, with the historic buildings still standing proud after all those years. So nice that it brought back some lovely memories
Hello. I never thought I'd experience Magic. And now that's how I feel. I look through your eyes, hear your words in my head, which I read about different, beautiful places. I'm really going for a walk with you and it's a walk with a friend who is just like me. Calm, reflective, sensitive to beauty. I'm sorry for having the courage to call you my friend, but that's how I feel. Thank you for everything. For every image, place, atmosphere, peace, morning and silence. For the sun and shadow of streets, roads, paths and fields. Thank you for every moment spent with you on walks. You chose wonderful places and showed them in a unique way. It's great that you're...
My son is an architect so I have taken quite an interest in structure & the effort that goes into bringing a home ( his expertise ) & buildings of long ago ( given the tools & materials available ) to reality. Again Thank You so much 😊🕊
Greetings from Turkey. I put on my headphones and enjoy a walk with you in the early hours of the morning with the beautiful sound of silence. At the same time, I am learning with the information you have given. Good thing there is you tube. good thing you are. Thank you for your valuable shares.🌍🙏✌️
Hello. That is very kind and lovely to know how much you enjoy the experience of the walks, and that you read the information too. I'm grateful for people like you and UA-cam. Greatly appreciated 🙏🇬🇧👋
I love how the city has all the modern amenities (paved streets, traffic lights, etc.), but the MINUTE you see the gorgeous architecture of the university, you're whisked back to medieval times. Education in some form or other has existed at Oxford since 1096, just thirty years after the Battle of Hastings and William the Conqueror's capture of England. Thank you for this video. I'd imagine that one can really feel the history of the place when walking around.
This is such a beautiful city with splendid buildings. I love the morning sunrise turning the stones that lovely golden colour - it reminded me a little of Sienna in Italy. thank you for all your historical research too!!
Oxford really is a lovely city that I would like to explore more... like many places in Italy too, I can not believe I have never been! There is so much history here it was a little overwhelming, hopefully my little snippet may inspire some people to research a bit more. Best wishes.
I lived in Cheshire, but never went to Oxford. Thank you for your hard, brilliant work. Every morning, I plan to watch one of your videos. Just found them today. I am sadly Not in England and miss it so. When I see this video, I am immediately full of peace watching my true home of the ❤
Beautiful city, It's nice to see where some of my ancestors were from. My 11x great grandmother, Elizabeth White was born in Oxford in 1564. Thanks Mark from Newmarket Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you for posting your walks. I am watching from Amsterdam. I love the fact that you have no background music and voiceover, this gives a feeling of almost being there on the walk myself. I thoroughly enjoy them! Looking forward to traveling to the UK and do some of the walks myself.
Beautiful morning, as the sun is coming gradually , between buildings. We can observe the wake up of a city . The early workers....and walker , as you offer us this beautiful walk.
Very much appreciate the framing, pace, and structure of these elegant walking tour recordings. As an American who is fascinated by British nature, environs and history, walking along with you provides an encounter. The quiet interspersed with bird calls is quite relaxing and allows one to absorb nature - love that tangled walkway in Lacock! - but also the British architectural elements startingly detailed and beautifully fresh to outsider eyes.
I love your early morning walks because, for me, it is the best time of the day with all the bird song, the sunrise, little traffic and hardly any people around. When we are both off work, we have to walk much later because my husband doesn’t like mornings. Never mind, because you make these wonderful videos, I can still enjoy “walking” at the beginning of the day. Thank you for that.
My pleasure. As the years pass I appreciate the mornings more. Though, I'm sure you'd rather be out it is nice to know that these little ambles fill that gap a little bit. Best wishes.
Yes those firkin Vikings again. Like the mixture of city street views and the parks. Oh so different to anything that we have here in NZ. Was going to ask if the building had been water blasted clean then you turned of the main drag into a back lane and the stone there was black no doubt from a mixture of centuries of coal smoke and mold especially where where the sun dont shine. Plenty of work for stone masons. Talking of stone masons. On a visit to Selby Minister I went into the stone masons yard even though it said Not Open To The Public. The foreman kindly took us ( my young son was with me) around and showed us some of the most wonderful restoration work being carried on there by the team of masons. Many Thanks for the vid. Peter.
I never thought of it that way, there is plenty of work for stone masons in Oxford. That is a nice story about being in Selby, it's those moments that are memories that stay with you. Always a pleasure, Adam
So excited to find your channel! Love that you take the time to pan left and right, up and down, giving an immersive experience. Also appreciate the historic notes! And that shot…coming out of the shaded alleyway to the golden lit, morning sun bathed round building was magnificent! I’m an early morning walker too. Less people, less noise and more peace. Thank you from Perth, Australia. 😍
Thank you that is so nice you like the channel and the style of filming too, and you read the info too, fab! I think that was my favourite shot also, it was just such a lovely morning. Thank you again 😊🥰👋🇬🇧
For TV, Inspector Morse, then Inspector Lewis was filmed there. I try to watch almost anything filmed in Oxford. Sorry, I sent so many comments, but your morning walks are so magnificent. How many did you make so far? It is a brilliant idea.
Thank you for a lovely wander. Before lockdown I used to visit a friend in Banbury regularly which meant we always had a day wandering his favourite places in Oxford. This brings back wonderful memories of a good friend no longer with us and some lovely walks. Thank you. Keep safe and well. C
Glad that the walk brought back some nice memories you had with your friend. Thank you for sharing Clive, that touched me this morning. Always a pleasure. Best wishes, Adam
Lovely walk, today. When my wife and I were in Oxford, it was late morning and the amount of traffic was really heavy. What I loved was getting off on those side-ways (in York, I believe they call them "snickleways") and suddenly you could hear the birds chirping and the quiet. If ever you can get up to York and walk both the walls and the town, that would be something to behold. Thanks again for these morning walks. Your filming is even more outstanding with the golden sunshine. Also thanks for going by the Bodleian - another place we visited while there.
The last time I visited York was a few years back when I was looking at colleges to do my degree. It was lovely. You are right it would be great to record a walk there, I'll put it on the list. Glad you liked the Oxford walk, a morning where I was blessed with a gorgeous sunrise. Thank you.
Loving your videos from my home in Toronto where the oldest buildings we have are a small handful from the late 19th century. The architecture of Oxford (and everywhere else you film) is awe-inspiring. It catches a viewer's imagination and flies it away on a romantic journey.
What a fantastic video! I Love Oxford! Your video is one of the best I have seen. All of the streets and paths you take are wonderful. You get a lot of the beautiful old buildings, and I like the way a beautiful building suddenly shows up while you walk a path ,34.45. through 35. Before that 27 min. when the Sun is rising. I really love all of your morning walk videos because of the wonderful and peaceful atmosphere! I think it’s the most beautiful time of the day though especially the light situation and watching these videos feels like to be there. Also so cute that you put always a lot of information about the spot in there. Thank you for that! Many greets from Berlin :)
This was an amazing walking tour. I have not been to Oxford. Your video gave me a feel for the city. What I needed, though, was to know what I was seeing; which colleges I was passing; where in the city you were walking. To help me do that, I used Google Maps. I was able to follow your path through the city in Google Maps. This allowed me to see where in the city you were, what buildings you were passing, and on what streets you were walking. And by using street view, I was able to see things on your walking path that your video to not pick up.
Beautiful amazing historical buildings..this was one place I was hoping you would visit for a morning walk...so glad I am able to see it.. as if I was there...Thank you
An early morning walk indeed !! Bravely done :) I am a retired Oxford academic of some 30 + years, and remember well the many chilly bike rides to prepare lectures for keen and sometimes anxious students !! Nice to see my own college, Merton, but perhaps, for those not familiar with Oxford, some mention of the various colleges you walked past may have been of some help, don`t you think ? Regardless, a pleasant walk, nicely filmed at a steady pace - well done !
I'm a little aw struck that you were at Merton and took the time to comment. I completely understand your comment and it is something that I have thought about at great length. I think I was a little overwhelmed with all the history and buildings and what angle to go with. I've had a couple of ideas on what to do regarding acknowledging key buildings and will try and rectify this over the coming weeks. I can picture in my head those crisp winter mornings. Thank you kindly
@@everywhereisimagined Oh I say old chap, just thought to offer a constructive suggestion you know - just to lift your video that bit higher :) You might add ( say ) that Merton College, one of the three oldest Oxford colleges, also has the oldest continuously functioning college library in the world, dating back to Medieval times,or that Edmund Hall college ( Teddy`s Hall ) is the only survivor of the many early halls of ( religious) learning that predate the establishment of the colleges themselves !!! Once again though, well done for your early morning walk - original and interesting :)
Beautiful visuals of Oxford. The captions offer a lot of interesting facts about milestones in the history of the city, but they stop less than halfway through and offer no information about what, exactly, we're looking at. What are these buildings we're passing, and what kinds of subjects are taught inside them? How is Oxford divided into various colleges? Interesting that Radiohead had their first gig here, but more culturally significant (especially for an institution like Oxford) is that in the early 18th century Samuel Johnson attended the school for one year before he ran out of money and had to leave. (Oxford later offered him an honorary doctorate after he had become England's most famous man of letters.)
I went to Oxford as a tourist and became so enamoured that I applied to Cambridge. I went back to Oxford a few more times as part of the Oxbridge student exchange delegation, both at faculty and college level. All Oxbridge colleges have sister colleges. Mine's Harris Manchester. My favourite Oxford college is Magdalen, which to me is the quintessential Oxford college.
So beautiful. I love how a lot of your videos are morning walks, as the sun is coming up. Everything is peach and gold and peaceful. My favourite time of day
Como siempre me encantó el video, una interesante historia que nos va contando mientras la bella ciudad aún duerme, y termina con sus bellas fachadas iluminadas por el sol, precioso video, gracias, por hacernos felices!
I just booked tickets for great Northern rail to Oxford. We get there at 9:20 from London and leave at 5. I meant for us to leave at 6. Hopefully this is enough time to visit.
