So I started my journey from a school that didn't have walls or rooms and I used to sit on rags on the ground but I always dreamed about getting better education and today I have got an offer for masters in Oxford uni and I still can't believe it is happening... I simply cannot describe my excitement and joy. I wish all the best to those who aspire for good education.

United Kingdom is such a great place to study, I love the way the British preserve their heritage, moreover, it's such a suitable place to lead a good life there. Also, Oxford is my dream university when i was a child. I hope i can once visit this wonderful country.

Eh history is nothing if the teachers aren't great i was born and lived in the UK my whole life and as much as they brag about the history it doesn't mean anything when there's no good teachers, been there and done it with the education system and truthfully those people who made a difference did it themselves it wasn't the help of the education system, you see it in Tesla, Einstein... and so many other people they do what they want to do and how they want to do it going off on their own and despite the education system preventing collaboration they had people they collaborated with that helped them in their work and in turn it kinda helped them with theirs, none of these expensive universities can ever take credit for that.
They try but it's what's inside you and the way you go about things that matters most tailored to your own way of learning, this i've learned a lot cos it was never useful to me i'd only ever go back if there weren't weekly deadlines, classes are only 1 hour lectures where we're just shown what to do and an overview so we can actually spend more time researching, you get given a lot more time to hand in assignments, tests aren't just 1 hour but 2 - 3 hours cos it's unrealistic for multiple types of subjects especially mathematics where some concepts take longer and i don't think only having 1 hour does any subject justice cos they can only give you easier questions, they just aren't realistic about any of it and not worth spending thousands when you soon surpass it all.
It's cool they kept everything though but history isn't like how they make it seem really, anyone who makes some sort of difference took their own initiative and made it work and spent the time they really needed to on their projects not only a few months or 1 year, scientists spent years on things until they completed it but the education system never reflects that cos they make it about fleeting grades, really all those objects represent is that nothing is impossible to figure out even with limited and less advanced equipment, although at this point we DO need more advanced tech now but nevertheless it's the sheer will to stick to something that most can't do that's the most remarkable.
My dream university! I am going to work my hardest to achieve this! I will get in!!! Good luck to anyone else applying here.
Oxford certainly warrants more time than the usual tourist's quikie day trip from London. It is worthy of several days just meandering and exploring all tge wonders and beauty. I highly recommend the Randolph Hotel with its historic atmosphere that captures the city. Across the strret is tge Ashmolean Musuem where one needs to take a peak at the Wolvercote Tongue. The city is full of cozy pubs where once should relax and sip a pints. An easy bus ride out of the city is Churchill's Blenheim Palace where one sees a glimpse of Churchill's lonely childhood. To catch a feeling for tge industrial side of Oxford, Mini offers factory tours to see how the Mini is built. A bus or taxi takes you through the more modest neighborhoods built during the industrial age. Enjoy!
And you can see the spot, in the middle of Broad Street opposite Balliol College where, on 16th October, 1555, at the height of the Marian Persecutions, Bishops Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley - both graduates of the University of Cambridge - were burned at the stake for Heresy and Schism. Oxford University continued its self-appointed role as the guardian of political and religious orthodoxy by twice recalling, in the space of four centuries, a Church of England which was teetering on the brink of Protestant Heresy to the full richness of the Catholick Faith.
Not anymore...the Randolph hotel was bought by an American Hotel group over the pandemic. They fired everyone and rehired. So horrific business practice. They threw out the old historical china into the skip instead of selling it or donating it to the museums. Wanted to rename it "The Graduate." However the locals hated this change because for all it's history it's been the Randolph Hotel so they had to relent because it would be completely shunned. It's not longer authentic - looks like an american pink diner than something that is truly British. Not that american diners are terrible but they are not pretending to be uppercrust like this place is. It's selling an American idea of Britishness back to an American audience. Stay somewhere else if you want something real.

@@maryannelarsen1186 I know it's so sad :( I was volunteering at the Ashmolean and could hear them smashing up the old china through the window. And as for the rest...my colleague told me they know staff who worked there for years who were fired when the take over happened. Then they rehired at a cheaper rate. Horrid.

I am always thrilled by this city. I did an English course for three weeks at Anglo World Education in 1992. I fell in love with this city from the first day. I´ve been to Oxford four times in total and I´d like to go back one more time. I have only met nice friendly people, I myself come from Germany, there is also pushing, in England, so also in Oxford there is no pushing anywhere, not even at the bus stop! Oxford is the most beautiful city in the world. 🥰

The United Kingdom has the top Ivy league Schools around the World. It's culture and School heritage is magnificent. Great Britain is a dream come true it is a milestone away.
My favourite place in Oxford is the covered market which is just off the High Street. It has lots of interesting small shops. There are specialist food shops, luxury accessories shops and loads more. I know you should see the colleges and the architecture but if you need some retail therapy this is the place. It's small enough to not be tiring but can keep you interested for at least half a day.
I can't think of anything except oxford as a uni. One true love!

Merton College has the best library to tour at Oxford- they let you go inside and explore it up close, unlike the tour in the Bodlien which, because of the Readers, only lets you look in from behind the desk. Ask at the porter's office if they have a tour that day. Tolkien was a fellow there, and the stone table where he and CS Lewis would meet up is in the fellows garden. Also Magdalen has really extensive grounds, including a deer park, and Addison's Walk, so leave time to explore and wear good shoes.
- And New College Chapel does the best Choral Evensong!

I must thank the British Empire for it's excellent educational system. I may have learned most of my practical survival skills as a student outside of London and Oxford was my favorite place, always. Thanks for this excellent tour.

Just to note for tourists: there is no central campus of Oxford university. There are just colleges scattered around throughout the city. Instead, please do your research and see which colleges you want to visit. I'm fairly local and get asked where Oxford University is. This is a useless question because there are 39 colleges! Also do not saunter up at 4pm expecting to get entrance to colleges, museums, gardens and libraries. Tea time is at 5pm so most places shut by 4pm and the last tour at the Bodleian is at 3.30pm. Whinging that you came all the way from the other side of the world will not work to gain entry. They heard it before. Also do not use walking free tours- they are a scam. They don't even speak facts and then expect large tips.
Oxford is beautiful and has tons of history, but sadly, its incredibly expensive to live there... I know this because I live in a town a few miles away.
Perhaps, but ultimately this is good; otherwise Oxford will morph into another Manchester, Birmingham or even London, and lose its charm and character.

Oxford is more beautiful and charming than Cambridge. Also found it weird how he matter of factly stated that Magdalen College is the prettiest. Erm, beauty is utterly subjective. I personally find Brasenose to be the most stunning college.

Fun fact: the college walls were built from the early 1300s because Oxford had the highest civilian murder rate ever recorded (higher than Chicago during prohibition).
Even Inspectors Morse and Barnaby couldn't handle the workload!

One thing I would say is if you are driving to Oxford for the day leave your car at one of the park and ride car parks situated on the outskirts of the city. You can then catch the bus. Parking in the centre is a nightmare unless you are going to a specific place such as a hotel.

NICE....I have done Ph.D. in Physics from University of Pune, India. I had wanted Post doc at this University but they were not found my application is suitable for their criteria. Anyway, When I will get chance and have lot of money to travel UK, one day I will here in Oxford, to see this University and Cambridge University...my dream to see old University of the World. Wait I will be there definitely one day....
