Nah he's just a fuckin nerd who is happier spending time in the studio fuckin around and making music or playing video games. He's socially awkward and so yea he used to drink a lot to keep up in social situations. He quit drinking a few years ago, not because he was a full blown alcoholic but he was just getting sick of the whole scene. I think I've seen him drinking again recently but I doubt it's that much anymore. Point being, there's nothing wrong with being a little nervous and awkward in these situations. There is however an issue with people like you having a problem with someone else being "depressed" or "apathetic" because it doesn't serve you entertainment. Maybe he actually is depressed, I don't know him personally and neither do you so we wouldn't know but it isn't your place to have any issues with it if he's suffering. Get a grip.
