I think people should really appreciate Paul Morley's work as a journalist here. he really did know how to conduct this interview to get an insight the real fans would care about.
He....is....not....a.....FUCKING.....DJ for the love of god why are people so clueless about the world he is a producer and a live performer not a fucking DJ.....
no he wasnt he first made songs advertising for a website design company get your facts straight. he learned off making music for flash websites circa 2000-2004.... making him a producer far b4 a dj
@ThreeStripes III Well not only an asshole, but smart. People dont understand that, because a lot of people just thinks he's a jerk and doesn't care for mainstream artists. And goes on Twitter and rant on there post. Yes thats his thing but he has a smart side on the other hand and goes with the music that he knows and passion that he loves and also talks about it in interviews.
Joel is the best music producer to roam this earth (as every fan's dream) he got me into making music of my own using Ableton. (lets not have a big fuss about FL and Ableton alright)
I mean he only helped make FruityLoops so I don't think theres a real argument here. Hell theres a group that made an album on Garageband. It's all about knowing what you're doing.
***** Just Bieber isn't even a music producer, I highly doubt he actually writes his own stuff let alone create sounds with modular synths...Deadmau5 is the best music producers on the planet right now. I'm not saying he's the best musician but he's the best producer and there is a massive difference in those 2 statements. Hopefully you understand where we're coming from when we talk about producing an album it's a lot different than singing or playing and then letting the record label do that rest.
2019 and he’s still the best!!!!!! By far my favorite artist, icon, legend, I LOVE YOU DEADMAU5!!!! Thank you for all that you have done for me, your music changed me, it helped me climb out of a dark place, I have seen you twice, and I hope those aren’t the last, THANK YOU DEADMAU5!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video makes me nostalgic to how media back in 2011 used to cover entertainment subjects and even the way it the shoot their interview, it was such an exiting time
Really intelligent guy starts off making music in his basement. With a stroke of luck, lots of patience and effort, he becomes the world's biggest DJ and goes on to change the lives of many. Somebody make a movie about his life!
His music is simple to nail and place in a genre. The reason the people in those forums don't know what genre it is, is because they don't expose themselves to enough different forms of music (electronic in particular) to know what to compare it or to even put it to a name. Deadmau5's music is all Electro-House with some Minimal Techno influences. Strobe, I remember, and Ghosts N stuff have some trance influences, but other than that he doesn't really make much effort to step out of the genre
Deadmau5 has a very specific sound. I can tell that if there's a song of his I haven't heard yet. I can pretty much say "that sounds very deadmau5ey" Same as Daft Punk has a very specific sound to there music.
It's nice to see a reporter who doesn't ask the same questions and knows his shit. You can tell when a celebrity gets questions that they have to actually think about, not like 'what's your best song?', they give interesting answers.
This guy is changing the world. A year ago I was the only one in my group of friends who listened to him. Now they're all Mau5heads. If this guy can convert those pop-rock kids into fans of this music, he will be the #1 "Python-Coding Musician" in the world!
I watched another interview with Deadmau5 and he actually starts going slightly more in-depth about how he produces some of his sounds and he is fucking genius. The amount of synth knowledge he possesses is unimaginable. Listening to his newest song, "Get in the cart, Pig" and thinking that he created every single sound from scratch basically is amazing. He is an awe-inspiring producer and I hope he keeps doing his thing.
Keep it coming people ! I live for this shit! dont think for a minute that I will just go away .. I will back up what i say! Im here to stay! I say this with a devilish grin on my face !
I love Joel like no other. Because of him (and Daft Punk) I was introduced into the world of EDM. And his music is so unique, so beautiful. He has so much different sounds, and it all works. He's such a great guy and even better producer. Seriously the best producer, at least in my eyes.
@srxshadow his show is preplanned, because the lights and cube have to match the music, so his transitions are usually the same for each show, but he has to mix it each time
What venue is this at? I love the way that the way strobe is playing, it's simply mesmerizing and sounds amazing... Any videos with JUST strobe live at this venue?
@humaninjury7 Paul Morley is actually a really respected and talented british music journalist who has been in the industry for decades, so i'm sure he can understand.
@SherbiXXX the reward is cheese > ghosts n stuff > some chords > moar ghosts n stuff > i remeber > strobe > sometimes things get whatever everything else that's my take on deadmau5
@Soultroopr plus he has some modest points in the interview as well, ie. when he said that Stimming was kicking his but all over the world when it came to music and doing hting differently every time
Is there any nice video of deadmau5 at work? i'm thinking of top view from his decks and equipment... i'd like to see how much is "planned" how much is improv.
keep it as Skrau5ia, and it be all yours. I didn't even think that anyone would go for that name. I expect in the future i'll see a vid or picture with Skrau5ia TM on it. good luck!
this guy is real... most ppl in the industry come across as "fake" not even in the sense of being able to relate to him.. just the way he comes accross hes not bragging hes just saying how it is. deadmau is the shit
I think people should really appreciate Paul Morley's work as a journalist here. he really did know how to conduct this interview to get an insight the real fans would care about.
"I was born and raised an internet hate machine." lol
Strobe is the most powerful song I ever heard. Its awesome and its so different compared to all the other Dj's. Thank you Joel.
He....is....not....a.....FUCKING.....DJ for the love of god why are people so clueless about the world he is a producer and a live performer not a fucking DJ.....
Flex Official Calm your tits. Its doesn't really matter. By the way, he was a DJ on a radio show before he became producer.
get mad
no he wasnt he first made songs advertising for a website design company get your facts straight. he learned off making music for flash websites circa 2000-2004.... making him a producer far b4 a dj
agree
I can't believe that Deadmau5 has been nominated for five Grammy Awards (two of which were robbed him from by Skrillex) and hasn't won a single one.
" Ah look I made a pacman... Let's put some ears on it" xD
"I made a Pac-Man, let's put some ears on it!" lol
Joel is the best music producer to roam this earth (as every fan's dream) he got me into making music of my own using Ableton. (lets not have a big fuss about FL and Ableton alright)

6:34 Stimming ♥♥♥
Strobe is my absolute favorite deadmau5 song. I learned to play the slow part on piano. Really fun to play and really easy.
6:14 he did exactly that on his new album
+Trevor Stittches for sure :) (y)
You want to know why he's successful? Because he's smart. He might shit talk a lot and dress kind of bad, but Joel is a smart guy, and you can tell.
Yep his knowledge of technology is mindboggling
Yep his knowledge of technology is mindboggling
So true.
5:20 is why he's successful. Polyrhythms don't just write themselves
Dresses bad LOL. I like it, it has that "idgaf" vibe to it. People do tend to wear clothes that reflect their personality.
best interview with deadmau5. thanks for the upload!
Anyone come back to this every few years? Love this interview still
This video makes me nostalgic to how media back in 2011 used to cover entertainment subjects and even the way it the shoot their interview, it was such an exiting time
one of the better interviews iv seen thanks for uploadin man!!
I would kill to have Joel teach my Computer Literacy class... this guy knows WAY more about computer technology than my bullshit teacher..
what do you do now garrett, 7 years later XD
Really intelligent guy starts off making music in his basement. With a stroke of luck, lots of patience and effort, he becomes the world's biggest DJ and goes on to change the lives of many.
Somebody make a movie about his life!
Best interview from deadmau5 but honestly the interviewer really asked great questions
how could anyone not like deadmau5? hes freaking awesome. very inspiring with his music
starting off an interview with Strobe....Best Choice ever :D
Great interview!!!

I love him and his modest personality. Everything about him I respect.

Deadmau5 for world president!!
I came here because of deadmau5.
Strobe is the best song that has ever been created by a human being.
5:25-5:50 universal struggle of all composers errwhere
Finaly an interviewer that ask GOOD questions!
This is the first deadmau5 interview i've seen where the dude isn't asking stupid questions. He actually knows how to talk to Joel. Props!
Man! I knew it! At 4:30 I got chills over my whole body! :D Strobe is the most well made song ever!
Deadmau5 has a very specific sound. I can tell that if there's a song of his I haven't heard yet. I can pretty much say "that sounds very deadmau5ey" Same as Daft Punk has a very specific sound to there music.
this is actual interviewing. the guy came in with real research and real questions
great interview & video, glad you titled it so!
you can tell this guy rolls on the daily
It's nice to see a reporter who doesn't ask the same questions and knows his shit. You can tell when a celebrity gets questions that they have to actually think about, not like 'what's your best song?', they give interesting answers.
He's so cute when he's modest! And funny too!!
this guy is soo intelligent. Very well educated
Some of his music makes me choke up a lil. It's so beautiful.
So intelligent. I really like hearing him talk.
This guy is changing the world. A year ago I was the only one in my group of friends who listened to him. Now they're all Mau5heads. If this guy can convert those pop-rock kids into fans of this music, he will be the #1 "Python-Coding Musician" in the world!

I like how in the description he clearly puts in bold letters what the lame of the song is because he doesn't want to hear people constantly asking.
A fantastic interview not plagued with the same monotonous questions . . . Many thanks Paul Morley
i love how down to earth He is. This is why i love Deadmau5 and Daft Punk
Keep it coming people ! I live for this shit! dont think for a minute that I will just go away .. I will back up what i say! Im here to stay! I say this with a devilish grin on my face !
@Krookrz I heard Ghosts Nd Stuff the other day on the radio here in Australia, made me so happy :)
Really really good interview :)
Youngmau5
I love Joel like no other. Because of him (and Daft Punk) I was introduced into the world of EDM. And his music is so unique, so beautiful. He has so much different sounds, and it all works. He's such a great guy and even better producer. Seriously the best producer, at least in my eyes.
He’s really well spoken.

@Stephenxs its stimming, and hes a producer from Germany (berlin i think) listen to a track called melodica...amazing production!!
I forgot I opened this in a new tab and thought him talking about the mau5head was a sample mixed into Slip. That was interesting.
he talks so sophisticated, he is very intelligent
@srxshadow his show is preplanned, because the lights and cube have to match the music, so his transitions are usually the same for each show, but he has to mix it each time
pure love
Seems like a genuinely intelligent and down-to-earth guy
I actually love how they added Strobe in this video. :')
deadmau5 would be an awesome teacher for music.
i was there in the o2 academy, ultimate performance from deadmau5 everyone should check it out!!
The song in the begging is called strobe by deadmau5
What venue is this at? I love the way that the way strobe is playing, it's simply mesmerizing and sounds amazing... Any videos with JUST strobe live at this venue?
@humaninjury7 Paul Morley is actually a really respected and talented british music journalist who has been in the industry for decades, so i'm sure he can understand.
5:04 Joel answers a question.. We find out why his music is awesome and different.
I love this man too much.
I bought his music without even knowing who he was. He seems like an immensely talented individual...

Deadmau5 = Great
I really like these live concert parts filmed professionally- are they for sale or on an album or something?
@Soultroopr plus he has some modest points in the interview as well, ie. when he said that Stimming was kicking his but all over the world when it came to music and doing hting differently every time
this interview was on my birthday! ha

Is there any nice video of deadmau5 at work? i'm thinking of top view from his decks and equipment... i'd like to see how much is "planned" how much is improv.

when he started talking about people arguing over the genre at the end, i busted out laughing because thats all i ever see in youtube comments XD
Dublin last night.Fucking amazing
deadmau5 for god.
He's just Deadmau5. There is no genre that can define him. He says it himself and that was his musical goal.
keep it as Skrau5ia, and it be all yours. I didn't even think that anyone would go for that name. I expect in the future i'll see a vid or picture with Skrau5ia TM on it. good luck!
I'm going to see him at Lollapalooza!! :D
this guy is real... most ppl in the industry come across as "fake" not even in the sense of being able to relate to him.. just the way he comes accross hes not bragging hes just saying how it is. deadmau is the shit
Strange...how has he NOT hit radio in America? He was in the top 5 DJs in the world for 2010....
