After all of joels dedication and hard work just to please his fans, it baffles me how some people think this dude is an asshole and say that his music is trash...like how ignorant can one be? No "edm" artist has ever done what joel has done for electronic music. He pretty much was the one who brought the scene to the mainstream too.
Nebulous Fumes Not really. It can be traced back ti Jacquese Perry (I hope I pronounced his name right) who was the first to bring electronic synths to the mainstream in the '60s. Other artists like Pink Floyd, Radiohead and other bands using synth keyboards for musical composition. Joel himself was inspired by the breakbeat scene when he was starting out. Not bashing the guy but he, at most, paved a small way towards sounds like dubstep, big room and other forms of EDM.
A.M Team i understand what you mean but electronic music it self didnt really start being played almost everytime at radio stations until like 2008-2010 when Joel really exploded, yes there were electronic songs and songs with a touch of electronic themes that got into the mainstream from time to time but not as hard as today wich edm is kinda like the new pop its just everywhere now.

His dubstep style was quoted as 'what America needs right now' before the release of his first EP. From there the use of ease of access tools like FL and Ableton made electronic music making easier than ever opening and closing doors in the process. We can never go back from this, electronic music is to large of a spectrum to become a fad. It has been ingrained in every genre since the 60s continuing onto today.
This is why deadmau5 is one of the most interesting in the industry. He's heavily involved in the process from beginning to end all for a live experience that, quite frankly, most people will take for granted. He could probably save so much and pocket more if he just used the seizure rainbow barf stock festival fx, hired an aux guy, and "puppy milled" out bangers.
