As a former target worker, I'm a bit surprised they don't dedicate a "closed" lane to start checking you out as you shop. Seems like it would be easier for the store to have someone pop over there around cart #3 and get started for you and for them. I honestly saw this channel recommended for a long time... but I didn't know what to think, I expected a family that simply didn't stop having kids, I didn't realize you were fostering. And honestly, having watched, I feel guilty for judging based on simply the titles. I'm so amazed by what you're doing for these kids. Love your videos Alicia! You make shopping so much fun and it's so nice to watch and listen to your fun, caring approach to groceries for your family!
A few quick tips that my parents taught me...
My dad always told me to look for little black sap-like marks on the watermelon, which he called "bee stings".. apparently, they're indications that the watermelon is sweet because the sugar leeks out from the watermelon. Also, the yellowish sun spots on a watermelon are good too! It means the watermelon is full, so it didn't move around (like flipping on a tanning bed) while growing!
For onions, if you store them in a dry place with the little silica packets you get from packaged foods, the packets will keep your onions dry and preserved longer!
These are just family tips, so I can't guarantee their 100% accuracy, but they've worked pretty well for us so far! Have a great week Dougherty's!

I’m sure someone has already said it but as soon as we return home with onions my husband cuts them in dices and round slices and then freezes them immediately. They last for many months and it’s easy to just thaw out what you need and no worry of any of it going bad.

I did that too, but I only had 2 kids. As a single parent (for a while). My daughter does the same thing with her 5 kids. All her kids are responsible, respectful kids that absolutely love there childhood. The part is I get to be their grandma. Don't pay any attention to these negitive comments, but I would be exhausted after that. How so you so it. I spend almost $200.00 every 10 days or so & it's just me & my husband. Pro tip from someone who works in an in-store cafe. To maintain the cold chain and freshness of your fridge/frozen items, if you want to shop them first, just ask the store to keep them in the walk in fridge/ freezer in the back while you get the rest of the stuff on your list. otherwise pick them up last.

I use these tips to find good watermelon 🍉. Find them on Google last year & so far they've been pretty accurate!
*Find a watermelon that is a uniform size (oval or round) either is ok. You just want to watch out for irregular bumps.
*You want to find the melon that is heavy for its size. This usually means it will be sweeter and will have more water content.
*Look for an orange creamy field spot. The darker yellow field spot usually means it was on the vine longer and is full of flavor.
If the field spot is white that’s a sign that the melon is not quite ripe.
*Larger “webbing” or “sugar spots” means that the melon is seeping out sugar and is usually the sign of sweet melon.
*Look for dark & dull melons which is a sign that the melon is ripe. When the melon is shiny it is underripe.

Wow i grew up in a huge catholic family and my mom also ran a home daycare so we had a house full of people to feed all the time and my husband was adopted with 12 adopted brothers and neither of us ate like this. We didnt starve or anything but neither of our parents were buying individually packaged snacks and things like that and most meals were home made to be able to stretch and feed enough people. I had some other friends with large families too and most of them didnt get individually packaged snacks and if they did it was for one snack after helping shopping not for the week. Generally our families bought things in bulk boxes or bags and then put them into plastic baggies or travel containers. If i had 12 kids i would probably want to do the same just for convenience of not having to clean 14 peoples dishes but on the other end you must have a massive budget to afford all that. No judgement on your food choices either, people can say what they want but everyone in the us has eaten these foods before just the way their packaged individually tends to cost more it just blows my mind that you can afford to buy them like that but good for you id want convenience with all those kids too so i cant judge lol.

I just want to say to the people judging this family that they all work very hard. They take on more, they work even harder. Please remember this is for entertainment and motivation and a teeny tiny spec of a glimpse into this person’s life. I applaud this woman for her creativity, determination to get things done and her never ending charcuterie board ideas (please make a charcuterie board book) 👏🏻 heart ♥️

Maybe I am missing something, but I saw very little nutritious food. Most of this could have been homemade and a lot cheaper! I was astounded at the very small bag of green peas! Why not buy a #10 can of peas? And this is per week???

If you dont get lunch ables I highly recommend them. There is different kinds, their is the sandwich ones, the nachos one, the chicken nugget ones, the pizza ones, and I think some other types. I have a huge family so we usually get that and eat it for lunch or breakfast when I'm to tired to cook for us all, and it fills us up(especially the younger kids, it just fills them up faster since they arent that old. My family personally loves it, and I always get it for specific reasons. If you have picky eaters, their is the variety and if they dont like them, you could get them something that is easy to get ready and eat. If you dont have time, i recommend it greatly as its so easy to get ready.
