VERY special film, thank you for this insight on the film, I'm still emotionally shattered after seeing it and needed some comfort and additional information Thank you gracias! merci! спасибо! for sharing Cinéma Liberté!
1.Congratulations, folks. I watch Return at least twice a month. And I think this is a masterpiece of modern cinematography ... That last cry of the children, 'Papa! Papa!' , which sounds for the first time and for the last time in its truthfulness - is an incredibly dramatic scene , film ending up with these incredible beautiful photo slides ...I think it is the BEST artistic expression in cinema I have ever seen...I think this movie is the greatest art work of our time;
This film is an artistic and humane masterpiece, built from a belief from every element within it, director, producer, actor, location, camera crew, et al, that created magic. Technically it showcases the extreme sensitivity and skills of Russian film makers. No mega budget could build such poetry...this was a universal force that occurred through souls. Bravo! The tragedy of Vladimir breaks our hearts. He lives eternal within us all.
2.broken families, cruelty, discords, hidden tragedy, love which can not be expressed and kept because of the complication of the modern society. All are victims. The bad father is bad,The bad children are bad. All are under kind of evil spell, it like a circle of curse...However, they all are bound together with unseen , unexpressed love ...Which in the end is coming to the surface in genius Artistic narration... So touching ! I think this movie is a milestone for modern cinema art.
The younger son didn't agree with the father, but when father died Ivan called him "Papa" which in russian means he accepts him as real father, Andrey always accepted him, but I think they both loved him the same, maybe even Ivan loved him more, but the love was different.
I'm russian, I remember wathing it in some mid 2000's, the more I see it, the more things I understand from it.

Wonderful scene and very good ideas especially about the role of the actor which should replace the character in the film script and be himself
