  • Ham Radio Amplifier Keying Interface Buffer If you use a Amplifier you need to use a keying buffer between the Radio and Amplifier or run the risk of damaging the radio's keying circuit. Save the small keying relay in your radio. This Amplifier Keying buffer will protect your radio from damage by keying line transients, high current and excessive voltage. Amateur Radio

    The manual says you don't need to use an external power supply if you use the Multi-port.

    I bought a new Yaesu FTDX10 transceiver to take the place of my beloved IC-7300 radio. I was using just the phono wire between the radio and amp but I need something like this to connect my Yaesu. I decided since I have the Ameritron ALS-600 I bought the Ameritron ARI-500 remote interface and the interface cable for that radio that does the automatic band switching and the keying of the amp. I am uncertain if it provides any spike protection but there is no way you can use both interfaces together so I assume there is some level of protection built into the ARI-500.

      According to DX Engineering, IF you can use the Ameritron ARI-500 interface, then you DO NOT need an Ameritron ARB-704. The cables for these devices are unique and are not interchangeable. So I am guessing you would have some protection. Thanks for watching my video!!!

    Good review. Doesn't the ARB-704 pull power off the accessory cable, i.e., from the IC-7300 radio? I see you are using a wall wart to power it.

    Great video. I have an IC-7300 and one day hope to find a deal on an amplifier. Now I know to also purchase the buffer. Thanks Rich. John N6NRO

    I am getting the ARB704 to hook up my 7300 to a homebrew rf amp 2nos 811a tubes. In addition to the connections you have shown, a patch cable from tx to amp input also is needed, qsl??? Thanks

    • @RichRodgersOnline

      If you get the ARB704, get the harness which goes from the 7300 to the ARB704. That cable furnishes the power from the 7300 to the ARB704. I didn't know this at the time of the video, but you don't need an extra power supply for the ARB704. The harness also uses the internal relay that goes from the 7300 to the ARB704 that way you don't have to use the the external relay plug of the 7300. Since you are using a homebrew Amp, If you may have 1 plug which would plug into the transceiver. That plug is your relay plug for your Amp.. You really just need one cable from the relay output plug from the the ARB704 to the the input relay for your Amplifier. I don't have a cable going straight from the Transmitter to the Amp. I hope this is clear... here is the manual: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0289/7782/3843/files/ARB-704.pdf?v=1586534038

    Are there any special settings on your Icom that you should adjust when using that accessory port to key your amp instead of the rca jacks?

    whats the blue jack cable for

    • @RichRodgersOnline
      @RichRodgersOnline  Рік тому

      Blue Jack was an extra jack that was on the cable it didn't plug into anything. And you just need either power from the ICOM or an outside source.

    Hi. I have the kenwood ts570D radio. If im going to run the Ameritron arb 704 must the linear amplifier control relay in menu 39 of my radio be in the off position or the on position? I will be using the Ameritron Al-80B amp..
