I find these Van's actually pretty reliable I bought one of these for $500 with 215,000 miles 3yrs ago I live in Monterey California and have driven it 4 times to Las Vegas with no issues and it now has 312,000 miles I only changed the fuel pump to make sure I wouldn't have any issues.
My dad got an 05 town and country touring with 50k miles and got it for $2400 and it runs like a dream. 3.8L V6 has lots of power in the low RPM. I could go on and on.
Vans are so underrated... They are so practical and can do it all... Our 2000 Caravan is 19 yrs old and everything still works and still gets 24mpg on the highest with the 3.3V6.
My grandma always had Dodge Caravans and Voyagers. so did my great aunt. These vans were a huge part of my childhood. And for what they are they are not too bad as long as the bodys dont rust out real bad or the transmission takes a dump. Iv seen these go well into 300K miles before.
I have one of these. Best car I ever bought. I've put 25,000 miles up on it in the last two years touring Australia. Strange to see a left hand drive version in this video. But then, you'd smile if you saw my right hand drive version :) I took the rear seats out and put a double bed in. It's saved me thousands I would have spent in accommodation fees. Good luck with your van!
Just bought 2007, replaced cv joints, struts, motor mounts, brakes, 100,000 mile service, belts, hoses, full tune up, spark plug wires, tires, etc. I've got 225,000 on it. No leaks, no smoke, runs like a top
That's most reliable van ever made. I got mine for 500 $ with 120K km as project car put another 500 $. Runs awesome! Trusty little helper friend. Tnx for sharing your experience. Greetings from BC.
IDK what Chrysler did but compared to most of their junk products these vans were extremely reliable. The only major problem these vans have is the rust like crazy. Still I'd recommend one of these over a Honda Odyssey from the same time period.
When my family moved to Ontario from B.C. I was only ten. They shipped an 84 Buick Electra and a 2000 Dodge Caravan. It was rust free. Holy cow was it a reliable van. My mom drove it for easily like 6 years until a deer ran out in front of it. The radiator support and front end/ windshield were destroyed. It still ran... From what I remember it had the 3.0L Mitsubishi V6. For 400 bucks that is a hell of a deal...
Im surprised the rocker panels aren't completely disintegrated, these vans were notorious for rust and the interior surprisingly isn't falling apart. $400 and not in bad shape. Extremely rare find
Very very nice for the price ,They are pretty reliable ,brakes are an easy fix, the rust is another issue, as a body man I can say it is not an easy fix ,but overall he got his monies worth.
I got a 2001 town and country, 3.8, 127,000 miles with all sorts of extras... Seat warmers, lighted console, electric doors.. am/fm/CD/cassette factory mags, all sorts of extras .. runs like a champ. Only $200. The bad part is it was rear ended. The only mechanical issues are a frosty headlight cover on the right side and the left side front fender is scuffy looking, and the rear hatch has a dent...oh and I put the wrong tail light on it. I have to get the tight one soon. Lol. I can live with that for now, and plan on building a mean camping machine out of it. Lol.
I got my 1999 dodge grand carovan for free. I have taken it cross cuntry from California to main to south Carolina to oaklahoma to root 66 to san Diego. With no problems at all on that 8500 mile trip. Not bad for a free van. I got to say its been the best gift that i ever got.
My family had an 02 Town & Country and an 01 Grand Cherokee 4x4 when i was younger. My parents said the Town & Country did better on snow than the Jeep! Transmission went out at 116K miles, scrapped it and replaced it with a 2010 Honda Odyssey which we still have with almost 170K miles with no issues.
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 Yeah the tranny was definitely a weak point of Chrysler vehicles. The tranny on our Jeep went out at 9K miles (Replaced under warranty) and again at 120K
Did you get the fluid changed at the shop? Chrysler was cheap on these vans and used the old transmission fluid dipstick from the previous generation which used ATF3 tranny fluid while this uses ATF4+. Some mechanics don't look at the manual and just read the dipstick and they sadly may have put ATF3 in your van and killed the tranny. Our 2003 has 146000 and still has the original tranny
Adam Smith I don’t think it was dealer serviced at that point.. I don’t exactly remember, it went out when i was 10 years old.. How often is the tranny fluid due to be flushed? It had 116K miles when it went out
I currently drive a 2007 town and country and love it, I have 140k on mine and it’s still going. Mine is starting to rust on rocker panels but it runs great only done maintenance stuff and a radiator and a few minor things. But it is comfy and a smooth ride. Mine is the 3.3L v6 also and is a great runner. I agree with you 💯 on these older models being better than that later generation. My ex has a 2013 town and country and I hate it. It has more bells and whistles I guess but the newer ones are not comfortable and cheaply made. Thx for sharing the video I love these vans too!
Keep your expectations low and these Chrysler vans definitely serve their purpose. I've had an '05 Town & Country Limited (top of the line) for a couple years that I bought off Craigslist for $700. Only use mine a few times a year to haul furniture or whatever I decide to hoard lol. Almost none of the many power gadgets inside work anymore (sunroof, sliding doors, door locks, DVD screen, the compass that I see works in yours lol, foglights, etc), it leaks a little of almost everything, and the body is all rotted out too (although mine looks half decent since the Limited trims had plastic cladding on the sides which hides most of it lol) The 3.3's and 3.8's are solid, transmissions in these aren't terrible either with basic fluid changes here & there. I just keep mine topped off, fold the Stow & Go seats down, and use it like a pickup truck. Always starts, never asks for much, and they all seem to be the same way. Good buy!
Ive got a 2007 Caravan. Its got 412,000 on it. Thats not a typo. Four hundred and twelve thousand. Original engine and transmission and still runs like a top. I took the seats out and got room for my tools(i do mechanic work) and a killer stereo system and its really comfy to drive.
Actually ive given it hell. Paid 700 for it as a work vehicle. Its been a tank for sure. And Edward is right. Im a firm believer in changing oil and fluids. As far as the driving aspect goes im pretty rough on vehicles but my last 4 ive kept long enough at least made it to the 300 mark. Including Ford and Chevy. Keeping fluids maintained is the key imo.
What a steal, my mom has an 05 grand caravan sxt fully loaded for most of my life, even though it ain't the best nor most reliable thing out there, it still holds dear to my heart when people appreciate these slow family haulers. We live up in the west coast so ours has virtually no rust, but maintenance cost have been very expensive after the 100k mark. She's still running strong to this day though, you made a great buy man, hope to see great content with it soon!
I agree good buy, I bought a 2003 325i bmw for only $600 and a ford f150 XLT supercab longbed for $500, both run and drive great, already put 4000 miles on bmw
A lot of people around here get these older chrysler vans, rip the seats out and use them as haulers! Cheap and reliable for what you pay, change the fluids and they don't complain! My '05 Ram 1500 is the same way, 200k miles no problems.
My mom bought 2 minivans (same as in video) for less than $300 for both. And fused them together for a complete vehicle. Runs fine. Bad rust from this years winter. We are adventually gonna get a new one. Works good for the mean time.
I have the same exact thing just original side panels and same 3.3L V6. I can get to 110mph and can do burnouts, donuts, and can keep up with a Crown Vic though first gear. I'd totally buy another Honestly.
The old Chrysler/dodges will never die have a town and country and it was parked with s coolant leak coming from the metal pipe that supplies the rear heat.. put the same battery in it that I took out of it thing started right up after sitting for a year
My girlfriend and i are the owner of a ‘97 t&c with 211k miles (has the 3.8l v6). Its been an awesome van and that v6 has alot of low end grunt making it easy to break them tires loose :). We paid $500 for it (even came with a set of winter tires), all i had to do was replace the alternator. The only things negative i can say about it is that getting to the back spark plugs is a pain and its a thirsty vehicle, its otherwise phenomonal.
Last month i was on the hunt for a winter beater slash caravan... i came across a ad on Craigslist 2007 grand caravan sxt one owner 150,000 kms for $800. At first i thought it was a misprint ... long story short i drove 3 hours to get it i got there and the van was mint. No rust no dings or dents 3.8 litre full load . The old lady said it needs new front end .... makes noises over speed bumps dealer quoted her $2500... i paid $500 cash and drove it home all it needed was new front struts i replaced them $250 van runs mint again. I sold it for $5500 a week later . Dont judge a book by its cover guys and gals
I have an 05 T&C with 213k miles. It's been a fantastic van and I never liked Chrysler.. I'd buy one again anytime. Change your fluids and drive it nice. It'll run a long time
Nice! I see these on the local CT craigslist for over $1500 with way over 200K and they are the base model (wood grain CD or Cassette not both). For $400 you did good those snow tires like new and are probably worth $400 by themselves.
We had an 02 Dodge Grand Caravan rowing up as well... had it for 11 years before selling it... it had almost 400,000kms on it, and we sold it to a distant family friend who took it on many road trips for a few more years and sold it.. could be in the junk yard now ur who knows... and yeah, as soon as we changed O2 sensor to a third party one, the engine light stayed on forever... upgraded to the 2013 caravan after... still have it today... rust already, and how cheap interior build, cheap hard plastic on every surface... seats aren’t nearly as comfortable. Oh well, the stow and go feature is pretty cool and useful but not nearly as polished as our 02 caravan
Mine had auto doors, and has a tv in it. Same year too, but it has high mileage and needs rockers, other than the rust on the town and country vans they are strong and reliable!
I'm not exactly a minivan enthusiast but that thing is a steal for 400! Its seems pretty solid mechanically. Looking forward to some more videos on it!
That interior is amazing. We took an 01 caravan to Texas and back from Canada in 2016, leaked power steering fluid and water the whole way lol. They’re honestly not bad vans but I find them uncomfortable as does my father. But for how cheap you can get them who cares, they’re pretty well worthless
Great deal for only $400. If u can repair the rust for cheap that's a plus. Here in my state of Maryland the state inspection stations will fail a vehicle with rust issues.
I subbed a page for a middle age mid west housewife who is working on a 2010 Town and Country. She has about 40 subs, but she's doing it. I like watching folks tear shit apart and fix it. The first car I ever rode in was a 49 Mercury. I got the bug. Get yourself a cheap cabled odbll reader. If the ecu dies plugging in the reader will put it in to limp home mode. You'll be limited to 30 mph, but avoid a tow truck fee.
they are amazing in the snow. if i had to guess, given the rust level & mileage, the previous owner used it tons in the snow, exposing her to muchas amounts of salt. we got a '04 2 yrs ago with 58k on it for $1,400. 3.3L is excellent. it was the typical 'lil old ladies car', nice interior & with the 'no extra cost' every corner with minor dmg, lol. we put cooper snow type tires on. the van is so smooth, quiet & comfy and again, a fabulous winter vehicle. they'll destroy the Astro & Aerostar Chevy & Ford had forever in any category..it took them many years to get half way to a Caravan's driveability. Btw, watch a few crash tests of the Caravan type vans on youtube here of 80's-2000's vintage..they are pretty tough, aka crash worthy. they use a monoleaf rear spring that is simple, will never need to be aligned and provides really decent handling..ppl pay fat bucks for a monoleaf for their drag cars etc. lil tip, if the mild understeer bothers you..it's there for safety, ofc but all that needs to be done is install slightly wider front tires than the rear, or use a 16" wheel in front and a 15" in back & get the same overall tire diameter via a shorter sidewall. Yw! :) i could go on forever. $400 & with 80k is outstanding & sounds like you need the rotors turned or replaced..a whopping hundred bucks will do it and don't chince out on the pads! get nice semi-metallics! lol. and with some of the the cash you saved on this deal, do yourself a favor & get a AGM (Advanced Glass Mat) battery. you'll love it!
That door sound we have on ours it made that sound before it quite working so just heads up we have had basically every gen except for the fifth 2008- now rust is a common problem but they run for ages if maintenance is sorta kept up you can get loads of miles of those 3 3s we 212k and running great only thing we do is oil changes every 5k miles even though it needs an alinement badly it just keeps goin. one We still have a gen 2,3, and 4 the first gen was scraped when I was very young so I don’t known when exactly. So I’d say I’m a loyal dodge caravan guy!
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 yup neither does sounds like same problem if you do end up fixing it please do a video for diagnosis or repair much appreciated
Kirby Masta do you need it or want it there is a difference here. We drive our vehicles to the ground or till they give up so, here’s the question are you ready for new car payments or have you saved up for a good down payment?
My mom had a 2002 Dodge Caravan. We had it until it had 217,000 mi. It had did have to have the transmission replaced at some point as well as a new alternator. Our family gave it to a poor lady. It was a great family vehicle, though towards the end of its life with us little stuff started to break in the interior.
Despite u selling your tundra and getting a chrysler van...i still subbed.… 😁 New sub here ...hi from Ontario 🇨🇦.....for some reason your voice calms me down haha...good luck with the vand and please dont sell the S10 too....
Nice nice niiiiiiiice!!! My patents bought a 1999-ish Chrysler Town and Country, gold color, beautifully the best of its kind (cuz my mom moves the gold color shiny like gold yknow?) And im like, loving this, cuz it relates to me how you bought one at for the memories, so yea!!! Cheers for you!!
Good deal. Tires alone are worth most of that cost. No automatic doors is a good thing on older cars, IME. They easily exceed 100k, I have seen cabs way over 300k. If you needed extensive brake lines that could get $$ to professionally repair. That generation of Caravan felt really nice on the road. Newer Caravans are more truck-based, and less "Caravan".
my parents used to own a i think 3 caravans before we switched to first a 2003 honda odyssey and now our current van is a slightly newer 2005 honda odyssey
i agree with you on the interiors of the next generation, i have a 2010 chrysler and the interior quality is honestly pretty bad, super glad they stepped up their interior game these last few years though
I own a 2002 3.8 not my favorite ride but damn has it been reliable. Its had a couple little issues mostly emissions problems. It has 168000 miles on it but fires up and goes everyday. You certainly won't get any cool points rolling in this baby but if you have kids and just need a reliable ride can't go wrong..
You'll get a surprise when you check the jack points by the rear dog legs need an alternative jack for rear been there lol . You did ok for 400 thought.
This makes me miss my '03 Caravan bad. Same exact interior minus the fake wood. Super reliable and so many memories, dang thing just rusted out on me. Currently driving an '07 Grand Caravan and it's disappointingly nowhere near as reliable. Not sure what happened in four years at Chrysler, but I'll be getting rid of it soon.
A town and country regular wheelbase, no tach, no chrome 17" wheels or 3.8 engine. I always thought they where the top of line or at least they are in canada
Top priority for me would be to change the trans fluid no matter how clean it looks. The trans were the weak points on those vans. $400 is a score though!
Now you can express your inner soccer mom.
Lol
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 I have new videos for my viewers if you're interested. Thanks. :)

TYLER MILLER what about though?
TYLER MILLER yes, we’ll, that’s true.
That interior is really clean for what the exterior looks like
I'm not much of a minivan person but can't go wrong for $400. Looking forward to some more mower/small engine videos

The only things negative i can say about it is that getting to the back spark plugs is a pain and its a thirsty vehicle, its otherwise phenomonal.
sweet deal man
Last month i was on the hunt for a winter beater slash caravan... i came across a ad on Craigslist 2007 grand caravan sxt one owner 150,000 kms for $800. Dont judge a book by its cover guys and gals
damn thats a great way to make a quick profit! This needs a little more work before I can sell it but hopefully it will turn me a good profit as well.
81,000 miles for $400? Jesus damn that's absolutely mint
thanks
I used to have two of them and they are super nice
I have an 05 T&C with 213k miles. It's been a fantastic van and I never liked Chrysler..
I'd buy one again anytime. Change your fluids and drive it nice. It'll run a long time
for sure i will
I have a 2006 chrysler town & country base with the 3.3 and 120k on it, really nice vans!
Oh well, the stow and go feature is pretty cool and useful but not nearly as polished as our 02 caravan
yea i think the previous generation caravan is better than the new one
Mine had auto doors, and has a tv in it. Same year too, but it has high mileage and needs rockers, other than the rust on the town and country vans they are strong and reliable!
nice, you got the fancy pants version! you're very right, chrysler isnt good at rust protection
I'm not exactly a minivan enthusiast but that thing is a steal for 400! Its seems pretty solid mechanically. Looking forward to some more videos on it!
Thanks
That seems like a pretty decent van for the price, especially since it has less than 100K miles on it which is nice.
In Vermint, Winter comes early and stays late. Studded snows are legal up in Vt.? Buy low, sell high, nothing wrong with that.
Studded snows arent legal is some places? I never knew
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 Vt. no restrictions, Taxachusetts Nov. 2-Apr. 30, only.
Not allowed at all in Ontario Canada
Great deal for only $400. If u can repair the rust for cheap that's a plus. Here in my state of Maryland the state inspection stations will fail a vehicle with rust issues.
yes this won't pass inspection up here either
In NY they don't care as long as the rust isn't splitting the frame in half
jeez older and 81 thousand miles? my mom has a 2009 town and country with like 216 thousand miles!
yep this wasn't driven much! I
The peddle shudder is probably warped front rotors. 2010 Grand Caravan owner here.
thanks for the advice
I got a full set of pads, and rotors on ebay for $100, including shipping.
Seems like a great find man, I grew up riding in the back of a Plymouth Voyager myself; they’re solid vans!
they are amazing in the snow. if i had to guess, given the rust level & mileage, the previous owner used it tons in the snow, exposing her to muchas amounts of salt. we got a '04 2 yrs ago with 58k on it for $1,400. 3.3L is excellent. it was the typical 'lil old ladies car', nice interior & with the 'no extra cost' every corner with minor dmg, lol. we put cooper snow type tires on. the van is so smooth, quiet & comfy and again, a fabulous winter vehicle. they'll destroy the Astro & Aerostar Chevy & Ford had forever in any category..it took them many years to get half way to a Caravan's driveability. $400 & with 80k is outstanding & sounds like you need the rotors turned or replaced..a whopping hundred bucks will do it and don't chince out on the pads! get nice semi-metallics! lol. and with some of the the cash you saved on this deal, do yourself a favor & get a AGM (Advanced Glass Mat) battery. you'll love it!
sounds like you got a good deal on your van! thanks for the info
Cool, they seem like great vans! The other sliding door lock doesn't work so I'm sure this one is on its last legs
Kirby Masta sweet what a great way to start learning in happy that things are working out
My mom had a 2002 Dodge Caravan. We had it until it had 217,000 mi. It had did have to have the transmission replaced at some point as well as a new alternator. Our family gave it to a poor lady. It was a great family vehicle, though towards the end of its life with us little stuff started to break in the interior.
Wish I could find a similar condition one in PA for 400 bucks. You got lucky. Same van today would sell for 3 grand.
best part is at 3:50 when the dog picks up a piece of trash. you're welcome.
Woah! Cool wipers!
Despite u selling your tundra and getting a chrysler van...i still subbed.… 😁 New sub here ...hi from Ontario 🇨🇦.....for some reason your voice calms me down haha...good luck with the vand and please dont sell the S10 too....
lol yea its a bit of a downgrade, but this will turn me a good profit once fixed up. i won't sell the s10 anytime soon
In norway the cheapest You Get a car that run and still isnt legal is 2500$
Pedal movement is from bad rotors , brakes are worn out .Check ball joints there known for this .
thanks for the info
Nice nice niiiiiiiice!!!
My patents bought a 1999-ish Chrysler Town and Country, gold color, beautifully the best of its kind (cuz my mom moves the gold color shiny like gold yknow?) And im like, loving this, cuz it relates to me how you bought one at for the memories, so yea!!! Cheers for you!!
cool, thanks for watching!
People not washing the salt off causes the rust we never had any rust issues with our 02 caravan
yep
Drove down to Wisconsin the majority of the vehicles with rust on the rocker panels were Dodge Caravans Chrysler Town & country's
they do have rust issues
That noise when you locked it was hilarious
I just sold in 05 for a thousand bucks with 220,000 miles on it
good job selling that, it would be overpriced here but you gotta know how to play to the market
It sold in 7 minutez
Wow you sure got a good market there
Good deal. Tires alone are worth most of that cost. No automatic doors is a good thing on older cars, IME. They easily exceed 100k, I have seen cabs way over 300k. If you needed extensive brake lines that could get $$ to professionally repair. That generation of Caravan felt really nice on the road. Newer Caravans are more truck-based, and less "Caravan".
thanks
My brother has a 02 or 03 s10 and has had nothing but trouble with it.
hopefully mine doesnt go the same way
my parents used to own a i think 3 caravans before we switched to first a 2003 honda odyssey and now our current van is a slightly newer 2005 honda odyssey
Also this is the short wheelbase version. The “Grand” is LWB. but still a cool buy nonetheless 👍
For $400 if the thing moves you did good. The interior is super nice in that!
thanks!
Keep Bernie in Vermont
lol
Beaters are a lot better than nice luxury cars in my opinion! Cheaper to operate, cheaper to buy, cheaper to do everything and simple too!
i agree with you on the interiors of the next generation, i have a 2010 chrysler and the interior quality is honestly pretty bad, super glad they stepped up their interior game these last few years though
Yea they went from good to meh now back to pretty good
I own a 2002 3.8 not my favorite ride but damn has it been reliable. Its had a couple little issues mostly emissions problems. It has 168000 miles on it but fires up and goes everyday. You certainly won't get any cool points rolling in this baby but if you have kids and just need a reliable ride can't go wrong..
for sure
You'll get a surprise when you check the jack points by the rear dog legs need an alternative jack for rear been there lol . You did ok for 400 thought.
oh ya man the jack points are rusted to hell
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 lm in NY don't know if Vermont will inspect it with Jack points problem.
Hey fellow Vermonter great video.
Thanks!
This makes me miss my '03 Caravan bad. Same exact interior minus the fake wood. Super reliable and so many memories, dang thing just rusted out on me. Currently driving an '07 Grand Caravan and it's disappointingly nowhere near as reliable. Not sure what happened in four years at Chrysler, but I'll be getting rid of it soon.
too bad you got a lemon, is it the new body style or still the old one?
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 Most definitely a lemon. '07 was the last year of the old body style. Mostly bought for the stow and go seats lol
I'm surprised that the subframe and suspension still mounted with all the rust on it.
A town and country regular wheelbase, no tach, no chrome 17" wheels or 3.8 engine. I always thought they where the top of line or at least they are in canada
ya they are pretty much a base dodge caravan but with a couple features like auto windows and faux wood
Top priority for me would be to change the trans fluid no matter how clean it looks. The trans were the weak points on those vans. $400 is a score though!
i will for sure
I remembered I used to ride in one of these old vans which was in a red color
nice
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 yup and it was a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country LX
Bro I bought 1993 Nissan centra for 150 bucks running no check engine lights 3 years ago it don't reverse tho
Wtf. That's the best $400 van around I hope to see you make a hell of a profit
thanks man
We got one for our sister-in-law, same van $100.
daaamn nice deal
I bought a 1996 Chrysler Grand Voyager minivan from Canada and paid about $1100. Van was registered in Ontario Canada and has no rust.
wow it must have been well taken care of if it had no rust
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 the owner took care of it very well now the van is in California. car's don't rust there.
I think you have a better chance of seeing bigfoot then a dodge from ont with no rust
What a steal, my guy
Another rust area is the front strut towers .
yea i've heard that, ill be sure to check them out.
I got an 02 town and country with over 270000 miles & yea its still running
wow thatsa lotta miles
clean shock towers, mine had rusted out & broke.
i certainly will
