"this SOAD riff" couldn't name the song in the title? shitty clickbait
i wouldnt exactly call this an arrangement. its just how you play the original song lol
Good on ya for giving a mention to Ernesto, hes the fuckin man. You are too of course!
That tuning though!
;P

when i was 19 saw a guy do an acoustic cover of this song in a bar really late at night and to this day was one of the best covers i have ever heard in my life. wish i could hear it again
Words don’t express my meaning
Notes could not spell out the score
But finding, not keeping, is the lesson.
Bars let you in under 21?
@@jstgamer2553 what you've never heard of a fake ID 🤣
@@jstgamer2553not everyone lives in america
Yeah I was in my local bar at age 15 I was working in there by 17 and worked there part time and full time on and off for twelve years , 18 to drink at the time here
If you listen closely in aerials, you actually can hear an acoustic in the back ground, it's a bit easier to hear if you're listening to the isolated guitar track
You can also hear a lot of the clean guitars are doubled with an acoustic. It gives the clean guitar sound a LOT more body
My thoughts too, this guy must be a little tone deaf.
I feel like that's especially apparent in Chop Suey. I didn't know they did that for a bunch of their clean guitar tracks. That's a cool little studio trick.
@@richardjones2811That isn’t what tone deaf means
@@richardjones2811 my guy here is a little arogant and mean....
Acoustic guitars sound so lovely and haunting in lower tunings. Great cover!
Try baritone acoustic. Pat's Metheny "One Quiet Night" album is written whole on baritone acoustic. You would love it.
I tuned mine one and a half steps down for the first time a few months ago because I was trying to learn a specific song that was easier in that tuning and haven't changed it since. It's wonderful!
what's the tuning for this cover?
@@anenbie open c minor. CGCGCEb
Try Acoustic Wizard. Absolute haunting.
So pleasing to the ear to expect one thing and hear another. The chorus here is a great example
And that's why original song has an acoustic guitar layer :)
I’ve always felt like System’s guitar work has been under appreciated…their songs are so musical.
I'll take a stab in the dark and say you're not a musician/guitarist
I’m a slightly above intermediate level bass player that does gigs.
A song, a piece of music, being... musical? No way.
their music is so songical
Doesn't take long before the "underrated" or "under appreciated" comment shoes up. I think that pretty much every guitarist or band is now considered underrated.
Been playing this acoustic for years since I started guitar, its still one of my favourites to play
Really good for picking practice, I also used to play it all the time. Still have my guitar I just don't really touch it anymore
@@damiencouturee6240 Get back on it my man!
:0 what guitar is this?
That's what my 14 year old self found out in 2004 when tuning down my mom's acoustic guitar to drop C.
Aerials is such a great song. What I would give to get another album from them. Please God let them record one more album like this one.
Sometimes it's an impossible ask for your favourite albums to have a spiritual sequel, but theres lots of great albums out there and hopefully you'll discover something new that you can enjoy in a similar way. Your next new favourite is just waiting for you to listen to it 😄
I‘m 30 now..just the first 2 seconds brought me back to when I was 14, this band was so influential to me and my understanding of musicality
It really is a testament to Daron's ability as a song writer. He really was the backbone of that band.
Figuring out how to play this riff on my cousins guitar in standard tuning back in 2001 is what made me want to learn how to play the guitar. Taught myself how to play, been in a couple bands, had good times, still play guitar to this day.
The way you make these videos is my favourite of all the guitar vids on UA-cam. Top down with the tabs going at the same time. Absolutely excellent. You are the man. Thanks!
I've heard this song a million times but any time you cover a song it makes me want to relisten every time Nikola! Great playing
“'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go, but you never want to stay
And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play but you never want to lose”
Nice rendition. Thanks. 😊
“You never wanna lo0ose!
ÔHHHHHHH”
*head banging ensues*
Ive been playing this on acoustic overally simplifed for YEARS now without knowing. Thanks for this video. Sounds beautiful!
Beautiful! Would love to put some vocals to a full version of this!
Thanks for uploading it in a way i can look at it and learn it easy. The camera angle and tabs are perfect
You never disappoint, amazing as always!
System of a down made so many iconic riffs out of the elementary drop-C natural minor. Really highlights how simple riffs and catchy hooks go a lot further than impressive instrumental complexity.
Yep, guitar shredders do 0 for me. It's musically jerking off.
I love this riff, it's so fun to play along with
Thank you for the video. I'm learning to play and follow several channels for tips and tricks type of videos. I wish more of them would have this angle for the neck, it makes it much easier to figure out finger placement.
Always a good day when you post another video! Something new to practice today. Thanks
Really great. Such a dramatic, almost epic, melody.
My first guitar was a nylon string yamaha acoustic, one I got during a phase of my life when I was super into SOAD. Can confirm this song is awesome in acoustic
Wow. I love this format! This might be my new favorite way to learn riffs on guitar. On your channel! Subscribed
Best camera angle ever!!! You are a genius!!!
I dont know why but this cover took me back to my high school times in 2003-2004, what a wonderful time to be alive
Holy F. why are more instructional videos not set up this way?!?! Yuuuusss. thank you youtube rng gods. Subscribed.
The beginning sent chills down my spine
It sounds really amazing when you blend acoustic playing an electric playing.

Apart from the tuning, this is really easy to learn and fun to play, thanks!
what is the tuning?

Wow that’s an interesting tuning.
@Ryan O'Dwyer Actually this is Open Cm if that's a thing haha 😀The high E is tuned to Eb

These are 10s and it's definitely a bit out of tune. I try to play as lightly as possible
One of the first “songs” I learnt in guitar. The song I play different and master to this day!!! ❤❤ soad for all they did and do for the world! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Man, I learned bass at 14 so I could play that opening line. Totally forgot about it 16 years later, and now - with one broken string - here I am playing it well lol
A couple years ago, I bought Stef Carpenters [ Deftones guitarist ] Baritone 7 String ESP. I got it to play Deftones S/T and Saturday Night Wrist material but it sounds amazing for anything Deftones did up to 2008-09; or the Bob Ezrin Demos/Melanie/nameless Eros jams period. Additionally, it turned out to be PERFECT for anything by Korn [ S/T - Issues ] and System of a Down. [ S/T - Steal This Album ] Aerials; definitely being one of the standouts with this guitar. The baritone scale sounds HUGE during the high-gain bits and the tension is nice and tight, flush for the clean areas.
I knew it!! And suddenly I remembered Ernesto while listening to. I'm a huge fan from both of you guys!!
PLEASE DO A FULL COVER I'M BEGGING
you could... play it yourself you know. start a parasocial relationship with thyself
You can play this with standard tuning and a 5 string capo if you don't want to change strings.
how
@@travistravis8463 the capo goes on all strings except the 6th on the third or fourth fret, can't remember which.
I’m always nervous adjusting the tuning THAT much for some reason lol but man it sounds so good
Simply love it!
Thank you for this. Working on it now! I love it!!!
this made me get out of bed to re learn this song i cant wait to master this
The bar chord section puts off some strong Foo Fighters vibes.
Dang man, why did that video have to be so short?? Great job on an awesome song!! 🤘🤙
Awesome
Nikola is feeling emo this morning I love it. I’m seeing Serj Tankian live this month actually I can’t wait 🙌🏻
not tryna be one of those nitpicky ppl but soad ain’t emo
@@Kuzmo it’s a little emo not that much tho
@@MrUSPD how
@@MrUSPD there's a couple of songs that are very emotional such as aerials, roulette, lonely day , but "emo" draws influence in hardcore punk. Emo Music and Emotional Rock Songs are very different. but fair point you got. when i feel emo i like to play emotional song xD
Great work!
All I had was an acoustic guitar in highschool. I always wanted to get an electric guitar but back then we barely had any money as my parents spent most of it to send me to a private school since the public schools in my area were dogshit. The guitar I had wasn't even mine, it was my moms, but this video and looking back on it makes me appreciate I learned on acoustic.
This was actually the first thing I ever learned to play on a guitar and it was on a very cheep acoustic. Good times.
Before I clicked it, “is it Aerials?”
Never felt so right
Subscribed after a few seconds of listening to you play. Hellllllll yeah, this sounds unreal❤
God damn, that's fucking beautiful. Aerials on a whole new platform. Thank you!
this made me want soad to make a mtv unplugged
I absolutely think acoustic metal is one of the best sounds ever. Some of the ffdp acoustic stuff, like bloody, is just phenomenal
You should definetely check out ewan dobson
muting strings on acoustic has alot more grit and percussion to it. acoustic makes you work for the sound and play off the instrument itself. every guitarist should play acoustic every now and again
Great cover! Love this song 😀
such a cool sounding piece of guitar and truthfully rather simple & intuitive
Man, this just makes me miss “Unplugged” that much more. SOAD just barely missed out.
More from SoaD!!!! Plsssss 🙌🙌
Beautiful! Such a great song too.
Ok im hooked, liked and subbed. Lovely stuff!
Holy Mountains also sounds great on an acoustic
And "Holy mountains" too
Takes me back to 03 when I would bring my acoustic to high school and jam in the halls playing this during lunch! \m/
The beginning really reminds me of the verse riff for Seasons by Chris Cornell. Love it.
Life is a waterfall
We're one in the river
And one again after the fall
Swimming through the void, we hear the word
We lose ourselves, but we find it all
@Nuke Is-Rah-Hell What's the title? 😅
@Nuke Is-Rah-Hell I'm asking for the title, bruh 😅
@Nuke Is-Rah-Hell Thanks, bruh 😁
Magnificent job, brother
It REALLY captures that arabic/armenian vibe and influence ❤❤
You legit embody what this song fights against. It fights against separation, racism and xenophobia. Rather than a world being one it is segregated by country/religion and ethnicity. Well done...
Dude thanks for the tabs too!!
you'd be surprised a lot of their riffs are really good on accoustic
System of a Down has tons of great harmony. So many metal bands are mostly percussive, but SoaD is some of the most melodic and wonderfully harmonic metal around.
Listening to their isolated instrument tracks is like one of the best experiences as a musician...
Serj's voice has SO MUCH dynamics and little ornaments that he puts, Daron's guitar has some wonderfully unique harmony, and the bass+drums give such a wonderful ground on top of which the music can flourish, like an immaculate canvas to a great painting
i got chillz listening this and i've been playing this for about 2 hours now straight, Chillz absolute chillz
you're right, sounds great, nice playing
Loved every second of that!
Their guitar parts are super underrated. Everyone talks about Tankien’s vocals, but the rest of the band really create some wonderful sounds.
Anyone else automatically start singing? 😆
Every time
I always found the guitar beautiful in this songs. Now it's been elevated.
Great vid, I loved it!🇦🇲🔥
Now it kinda sounds like AIC
True
Tuning: C G C F A D
Actually this is C G C G C Eb. It's kind of alternate tuning this guy came up with ua-cam.com/video/A2n2IpD00nA/v-deo.html so that you can play the 'vocal' part

Beautiful, just beautiful 🤘🏻
Damn, been playing this song onm acoustic for about 10 years and this is so clean sounding. Will def learn this version, cheers
This sound amazing!! Correct me if I am wrong I think they stay on the first 3 strings (C, G & C strings) for the entire intro on the album version, I do not think it switches over like that. At least that is how I have always heard and seen it played.
This is a different arrangement written by a guy called Ernesto. Check the link in the description 🙂
That was awesome my dude.
Also those New strings sound amazing!
great camera angle for tutorials.
I love how I instantly thought of Aerials when I saw the thumbnail and title for this video
I love that view of the camera. I could learn stuff a lot faster if I always had that view. Sticks in my brain easier because that’s how I see it
Sounds beautiful and perfect for acoustic.
Love the camera angle, good idea
Wow. It actually does. I’ll be playing it this way from now on.
imma huge fan of yours so as ernesto this is awesome
