Hi, which wood have you used here for the shaft? Was it a Hazel sapling? Thank you, sorry if you said.
Här ni allemansrätten i Norge
I wanna hang out with this dude for a few weeks.
Jonathan Juillerat You’re welcome!
A week long camp trip would be epic.....just the opportunity to meet and learn!!
Same!
Start a survival training camp, charge for supplies/ and a fee for sharing your knowledge.
Such a genuine fella.
man I love your videos, your a blessed man to be able to go out in the woods and just be able to do this.
Gunther Wurm Thank you, glad you like it!
I am truly grateful for having found this channel. One of the BEST!
Thank you!
How has it taken me so long to find this guy? I’m a descendant of the Vikings and Scots I am probably related to this dude. It makes me glad that there are human beings like this still around. Move out of cities people. Live in the country. In another year or so you’ll see what I mean. My cousin Bjorn here definitely gets it.
Bjorn, I do enjoy your videos. I am Norwegian/American., with great respect for where I come from. I am also Chickasaw. Be proud of who you are, and where you come from. Respect yourself and others if you want to be respected. Keep up the good work.
The viking is strong in this one... Ready the longboats, lads!
Shit like this makes me a very proud Norwegian, indeed
i find it pretty cool how our peoples ways of doing things are similar in so many ways, I was taught when I was younger by an pure elder to make the glue the same way, the ash makes the glue have a little more grip, thank you for sharing this knowledge and always remember ... keep smiling!
21:40 it got real
But with a "I lost my glue" and a laugh you kept on and got the job done! Great stuff, very real with a very real little accident, too. Fantastic.
I am a girl but I love this kind of things. Going to try making my own bow and arrows this spring! 🏹💪🏻
I used to watch my father make arrows when I was a little girl. Thank you for bringing that memory back. Wonderful video.
Appalachian Witch That must be a very beautiful memory. Thanks for sharing that with me.
You are very welcome. Sometimes memories are lost amid the chaos of life and it takes a simple reminder to bring them back. Your video is a reminder that these things must be passed on to our young in order to keep our past alive. Thank you for what it is you do and when you get your book internationally, please send an alert somehow that I might buy it. Unfortunately the only other language I speak besides English is Tsalagi. So Norwegian would be lost on me in reading .
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are you Cherokee? Tsalagi is one of the Cherokee languages, isn't it?
About my novels: Yes, of course. I'll let everyone know!
I am yes, my father was full Cherokee and my mother half Cherokee and half Irish. My grandfather came over from Ireland as a boy so my respect and love for nature runs deep and strong. My father taught or at least tried to teach me many things when I was younger, though I must admit I did not always listen or pay attention as I should have. Your videos has brought back many wonderful memories for me . I will be more than happy to share if you ever wish to hear them. Feel free to contact me if you ever wish to talk further, I signed up to your blog so my email should be in there.
Appalachian Witch That is wonderful and I take it as a great compliment! (If you send me an email through the blog contact page, I’ll find you easier.)

Thanks for all you bring to light 😉👍🏻
This video, along with your bow making video are my two favorites. Well done.
Again, thanks a lot!
great vid i have always wanted to make my own bow and arrows
Frost Hunter It's very satisfying.
Bjorn, you know what I like most about you and your videos? You don’t claim to be an expert. One can tell you have a lot of skills but you don’t claim to have mastered them. Normally someone who has mastered something is a one trick pony but the impressive thing about you is you have a ton of general outdoorsman knowledge. 👍🏻 You’d have to produce 500 arrows in that fashion before truly mastering it and who in the hell has time for that? Good job!
That was very interesting to watch, the whole process ... thanks, Bjorn!
theblissfullone Thank you!
21:43 that glue also makes a great fire starter 😂
Sure enjoy your videos, your commitment to reality and your knowledge/sharing. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😉
I learned to make pitch glue with pitch/charcoal as well as deer pellets...the plant matter in the poop makes glue stronger...you can also use dandelion fluff or cat tail fluff ......make sure you harvest the fluff in the afternoon because in the morning it can collect the morning dew...(lesson learned)...makes for fire popping water in the glue and is bothersome....love your vids sir
Fantastic video. I really appreciate all the shared ancient knowledge. Also all the practical adapt to the situation sense. My mother in law could do the twist thing to make sting/ ties without effort with yarn. I am going back to trying to master that one. Thanks for
Absolutely loved this video
Hi Andreas perfect video the bow seems to me very strong congratulations and thank you for sharing your knowledge
+SuperIliete Thank you!
Watching you baton with your folding knife hurt my soul
(Edit): this was before he mentioned it... Rip
I think it was Ishi who said "any wood makes a bow, arrow takes a lot of work". In the 90s I made many self bows and arrows and that's the way I did it. Great video, makes me want to make some.
Dette var kjempe bra! Jeg liker veldig godt at du velger å vise alt sammen, både det som går bra og det alle sammen har problemer med, og at du forklarer alt du gjør. Fortsett slik! Du har en følger i meg :D
I love these primitive survival and skills for survival and just in general channels that are in real or realistic environments, as long as it looks realistic enough it’s cool enough, though sometimes a little unrealistic stuff like Minecraft can keep one watching for hours, I subscribed, great How To Make Stuff Primitively Stuff.
Fishers Games with an S XD Thank you. Glad to have you here!
And you nailed it again. Awesome. It would be great to see a detailed video about bow crafting someday. Cheers!
Chris Fiorin That's coming up.
@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen Bjorn, how much is the pull-weight, on your bow? I'm almost 70, and use a 65' compound (which isn't very useful with home-made arrows).
Awesome video,Keep it up!
Thank you!
Hey, great video as always,, for the glue what I like to do is pre crush the charcoal for proper ratio and then mix them together in a tin can or something you dont care about, and then bead it onto the ene of a stick so that you can heat it up and use it as a hot glue stick :)
That I haven't thought of. Thanks!
Tróndur Thorkildsen great idea... even gather some on a trip... bring it ha,e and prepare it 👍🏻
Wery nice arrow. God work.
Thank you!
Very cool to see, especially the glueing of feathers. Nice to see the forest in Norway, my wife's mother is from Medby(sp?) and got to visit the home her mother was born in, among other places.... be well
Thank you, Matt!
Great video, thanks.
Another great video thanks for sharing
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Great video, i have the same problem with mosquitos, darn things
As I always say, the mosquitos like me, but I don't like them!
high bjorn. that was interesting. especially how u made the string. good shootin. thank yew have fun gare
Gary Chynne Yew are everywhere I go on UA-cam... :)
Really good video, loved seeing the whole process can't wait to see you use it
James Mowat Glad you liked it!
Thank u I know how to make glue now
Yeah, thank you for the information,we like your videos,,,they are very knowledgeable
Great stuff.
Super interesting. Very seriously
Thanks!
Отличное видео! привет вам из России! буду всегда смотреть вас! палец вверх лайк подписка и репост от меня для вас!
Hi Bjorn, your videos are awesome :) I am Viking reenactor (Varyag) from Czech Republic. Maybe, that we will meet us somewhere on a Viking festival. Anyway I really like your videos and I am looking forward for all you relaese.
Hi there. Yes, I hope we can have Viking festivals again.
Man I love the videos, I keep watching this one and the bow making, I live them, I'm working on a hybrid bow mix of a native and an English style, I would love to have a Hickory stave to try my hand at an authentic viking long bow
Good idea, i like it.
Thanks!
Always enjoyable Bjorn!
I seem to be in a bow and arrow making mood today at work. Haha!
Very nice!
Great video
great educational video, takk! there is one thing I would like to bring up: I was taught that soaked rocks can explode when exposed to a fire. does anyone else recognize this? is it a risk when it is just a small fire like in this video? not criticizing, just wondering! thanks!
It is a risk, but not so much when it's a small rock on a small fire. That said, I know all the rocks in that creek and that little rock there have been in the fire before.
nice little video
Enjoyed the video keep up the good work be blessed
Another super interesting video my friend ... Thank You!
Glad you like it!
Super video!!!
Andrei Robert Thank you!
Tnx for sharing, that's definitely a nice arrow :) ... will have to just mention one thing (as a bit of a critique) it is generally not recommended to take rocks from rivers or wet riverbeds to heat them up, as it is said those rocks can explode if they have water drained in cavities within them. But yeah, other than that i am looking forward to seeing you make the beautiful looking bow... be safe and have fun :)
Dutch Courage Thanks! It's a solid rock, that one. And it's been in the fireplace before, but the kids like to throw them around. (Yes, I actually know every rock in that little creek.) But I should have added a note about that.
I don't blame you for not wanting to shoot the arrow and possibly lose it. That was a lot of work. Looks like fun though.
I'm colourblind, which makes it hard to see small things on the ground in these woods. It's all grey and brown to me...
5:14 That box of matches just wants to be in the spotlight, baby.
i like your video thank
kjempebra video, veldig informativ.
Viking Shaman Takk!
God damn I love your channel.
Hej! Good job! Thanks!
Thank you!
Really nice video Bjørn Andreas. I feel a little sorry for not shooting my bow all that much these days. I will try to make some arrows at some point. For now my factory made ones work pretty good. It is always cooler to make them your self though... Thanks for the inspiration :)

here's some tips for surviving any situation
1. Have food stock:
2. Find a shelter:
In times like these having a shelter which can product you from weather as well as other living being is important. If you are out of your home, you have to first and foremost search for a makeshift shelter or you have to think about building one if natural shelters are not available.
3. Know the dangers:
(I read these and why they work on Marla survive system website )
Them damn mosquitos! Im not a smoker but when im fishing or hunting i always have some smokes with me
This makes me proud to be of viking blood
That’s a proper arrow sir.
I noticed that between European arrows and native american arrows, is that natives relied on rawhide glue for basically everything. Least the plains natives and surrounding areas. While Europeans tended towards the pine/birch? Pitch.
Amazing my friend 😇 well done!! Blessings
Thank you!
really nice sorri bow that
Love the knowledge you drop in your videos. You help inspire me to seek more time in the woods...on my next camping trip I plan to attempt making at least 3 arrows for my bow. I will have to make my own bow another time...for now it is one that I purchased at a faire(quality handmade) but i went cheap and got one I need to sand and finish myself.
What are your thoughts on burning color into a bow? Yay or nay?
The Bob Ross of Vikings.
Beautiful arrow! The twist pattern you used for your strings, is the same pattern I use for my Flemish twist bow strings :)
I know, and this was the way I learned to make strings from any material.
Just out of curiosity, Have you ever experimented with jute twine, or twisted sisal twine, or hemp for a bow string? I would like to make a primitive bow string out of natural materials but have not experimented with any yet, and am uncertain which ones I should try first.
Hi Bjorn, the glue you made, was that from a mushroom type that only grows on spruces? Nice video again 👍.
Dagmar Ingrid No, it's the resin itself. Thanks!
For a moment I thought you're going to start a forest fire with the glue on fire scene lol!
Albert Yu That would have made an awesome video, haha. But seriously, it was under control.
You Germans are so calm :) Keep up the good vid.
Albert Yu I’m Norwegian, but that’s okay!
a question in which month the Viking festivals in Norway are celebrated and in what places are celebrated
luis eduardo rodriguez marcano From May to September, all through summer!
ok thank you and I have a question like it was Scandinavia before Christ (A.C)
That's a stong-ass bow! I made mine about a week ago and I'm thinking that I need to make a stronger one lmao
Try eating garlic b4 going into forest that should help u with moskitos
And other people as well, haha.
It is possible to baton with folding knife, if you dont block it- open it in 3/4 way.
Black seed oil cures bacteria i collect eagle and hawk feathers there is a powder you can use but i can't remember what its called though washing them off and then really scrubbing your hands with just water will probably do youve inspired me im thinking of making a Yew long bow though cause that's the wood that grows in the wilds i live in
Mohammed Adlabad Yew is the best! You can make great longbows from yew.
Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen That's what ive heard so when im able the wilderness where they are is very far but i figure it's worth the trip to get the right wood, and i was thinking of giving it a light water bending then treating it with water seal and laminating it cause my goal is to use it to hunt ram mule deer and elk
I think the serrated edge may be for even spacing on the feathers 🤔?
Chalky shoulders! Reminded me of another video where you mentioned you liked powerlifting. Love the content. Keep it up!
Which wood is used for this bow?
Love your videos, what camera and audio equipment do you use?
Hi 🤚🏼 it’s nice to find your channel. It’s refreshing.....I was wondering if you ever tried flintknapping? I also would like to know if you make your own primitive bows? if so do you have videos on it? I would like to see them. I found out that if you hunt deer you can use the sinew for string as well. Thank you for sharing....there’s not very much men out there doing what you do anymore, I commend you. All you need to make now is a quiver for your new arrow’s. 😁 🏹 Have a nice day/evening.
nettles fibres make good string
I found interesting that you also use turkey feathers for your arrows. That's all I use here in the USA. Every spring, when I kill a turkey, I save the wings (right and left wings separate) for arrow feathers. Since the turkey is a new world bird, do you know what the Norseman of old used to use. In other words, what bird did they kill and used the feathers?
Lastly, I can not place the country you are in. It's too flat to be Norway. So It has to be either Denmark or Sweden.
Please let me compliment you on your English. Great job both on the bow and arrow projects.
The Last Neanderthal Thanks a lot' I'm in Norway. Concerning the feathers, and not including domestic birds here, what I find in my local forest are normally the feathers from crows and the occasional raven's feather. As they deteriorate after some time, we don't know for sure what the Vikings used.
They used feathers from other vikings
Would handmade crossbow bolts work too??
have you ever tried to feather duck tape for fletchings
Nice
Thank you!
Great video. I make Bowie knives, if I make you one to replace your folding knife, would you make me a Viking bow in exchange?
I would love that, but I haven't the time right now. Sorry!
Bjorn, did you make a groove for your fletching?
well now i know how to make pitch
You can also mix some cattail fluff into it if you want to make it more like paste.
Why charcoal in the pitch mate? Want to learn 🤙
What did he use for glue?
do my chance know the approximate diameter of the shaft guide?
Monika Neff The spine of the arrow shaft will not be dependant on the thickness when it's a branch. And it gets stiffer when it dries. This one needs to be reduced in a week or so.
Is the arrow made from elm or hazel?
I see you got a ontario rat 2 knife maybe you should try the rat 1 Its a bit more sturdy and is larger Than the rat 2. But thats of Course if you want a folding knife.
I should have thought about that. Thanks for reminding me! I like them a lot.
maybe wrapping your arrows with a red strip of ribbon so you can find them easily !
Or, I could actually paint cirles on them.
Arrow found in Germany, metal detector channel terra germania? He found a flint 5000 year old arrowhead on the surface after rain thought you might like to see it, best regards.
Hope I conveyed info correctly.
I had a good laugh at the glue fire fiasco! Thanks for including that. Did you use a river stone because it was already saturated with water? Giving you a barrier for the pitch to heat on? Or am i science-ing wrong?
I know these rocks, I have been there often. These rocks are used alternatively around the fire and then thrown into the stream by the local kids, so they're safe.
