      "Her skin was"
      Not really, I mean look at Lauren Hill, she blew up in the mid-late 90s, was on all kind of magazine covers and ironically, she chose to walk away from it all for awhile. I just think Estelle, like Corrine Bailey Rae who's also British (& light skin) wasn't promoted enough or was just too much competition (RiRi, Bey, Mary J, Keys) coming from other artist during that time. As far as her accent, yeah that's BS, Americans always love good music from British artists, regardless of the accent. If their "accent" was an issue, then Elton John, Adele, Seal, Sting, my girl Sade and others, wouldn't be as big, famous like they still are in the states.

    • @stacksondeckldn4628
      @stacksondeckldn4628 3 роки тому +52

      African-Americans don't embrace the UK accent from a Black British person - when it comes from a white person, they love it. Ed Sheeran (for example) raps in his music and he SELLS & charts well in the states! I have yet to see a Black Brit embraced in the same way.

      @stacksondeckldn4628 3 роки тому +68

      @@MrJuly1990ish SADE is a lightskin, biracial SINGER - bad example - Americans will always embrace lightskin & White UK artists, better than darkskin Black British singers/rappers. American audiences overall are not open-minded enough to embrace a "foreign sounding rapper", especially from a darkskin Black British person - if she was lightskin (like Stefflon Don) she may have stood a better chance. Estelle was forced to change her music style to singing over rapping, once she hit the states (even though she started out mainly as a rapper when she first came out in the UK) - because again, "African-Americans don't embrace the English accent from a Black British person" (my point still stands) - biracial/white UK artists seem to have better longevity in the states & are more accepted.
