You have shown me at least 3 different species of Carp in this video. I believe this problem is the Asian Carp which is a very different species and considered INVASIVE in some environments. But just saying CARP in General and showing like I say 3 different types of Carp is ignorant to say the least. The Common Carp is considered a Naturalised Species in all Countries. They are a popular sports fish in Europe & UK and gaining popularity in the USA too.

Carps love being fed, fed them at a particular place they will make a routine visit there every day at same time, common carps are very intelligent, they love flour, and husks of rice and other cereals, every day feed at a particular area and fish the whole school without disturbing the water, by making them trapped the whole school, this the way we fish carps in India!! We feed them groundnut cake mix with rice polish flour, common bread flour!! The trick is not to disturb them when fishing them out, they also flock near fresh water comming into a pond!!

Carp is an invasive species in The Netherlands as well. They were introduced by the Romans, how cultivated them for consumption, so they have been over here a long, long time. In fact so long that they are not considered an invasive species, and the same story applies to Zander, a species that originated from East and Middle Europe. Zander is a fantastic gourmet fish, carp needs a little more attention. In countries where they eat carp regularly they let them swim in very clear fresh water for a couple of weeks before they are processed for consumption. BTW: they are both fantastic sport fish!
Yep your zander is our walleye your perch is the same here as are pike only yours tend to be a bit larger. And all of them are better then fricken carp! Altough pike are a bitch to clean!

@ClassicRockFan1220 i release all the zanders i catch ( they die too fast if kept in a net) and i keep somme carps.I like the carps to be as darker colored to taste better.I dont like much the silver colored carps from the cleaner waters.

I think between fertilizer, the pet food industry and human consumption would help reduce them. Like all fish they are nutritious. I don't believe in introducing a virus.
I have been fishing the Murray River for a long time or been camping with people that were fishing. 30 years ago it was mostlycarp. In the last 10 years (since I got the fishing bug) fishing between Echuca and Barmah, I have caught about 40 Murray cod, 10 silver perch, 3 troud cods and only 1 carp. Silver perch and troud cod are protected species. I still caught more of them than carp. Murray cod are everywhere.
What a contrast to the UK & most of europe. In the UK the market for carp is massive. Fishing for carp here is huge, with anglers going for two week holidays just to fish for them. Catch & release of course.

In Czechoslovakia, a fried carp is served as a Christmas dish. It is a traditional food. Carp is usually a target fish for hobby fishermans and it is eaten.
Yes in many European countries carp is a delicacy but here in Australia they are a pest and taste and smell like crap and even if you do cook them to taste half decent it takes too much time and preparation in general they are not a delicacy here
I am from india and we love eating carps.. We even farm them and there is always a fight in our fish markets to buy the large size carps. Its really strange for me to know that people there hesitate to eat this delicious sweet fish. 👀
I absolutely LOVE cooking fish with bone-in, head on. Adds a lot of flavor, retains the moisture and the whole experience of picking your meal apart is actually primal and very satisfying. It's like eating a lobster in the shell; you set up your butter, buns, utensils, put on a movie and crack open a couple cold ones. Great way to spend an occasional evening.
Carp are as good as salmon when smoked. Cut into pieces, put in a large bowl, mix salt and brown sugar cover fish and refrigerate overnight. I use apple wood and smoke about 5 hours on low heat.
It's a shame that other countries do not work with Australia based on the hunger problem throughout the world. In my state fishing access diminishes each year do to privatized water front property. We love to fish in Va. And would fish and feed til our rods break.
Even the most intensive fishing methods don't work to eliminate a species this widespread and prolific. There'll always be a reservoir and at 3 million eggs per female per season, it really takes only one or two generations to rebound.
We should look for the most effective way to utilise and obviously, we have a endless supply in our backyard so, be patient one day we can used them as the alternative source for something.

I really surprised while watching this video. Here in the Philippines, we have the same carp but never had a problem like yours. In fact, we really have a tough time catching them. They are some kinda special freshwater fish for us and they are fantastic especially when you roast them, eat them raw with vinegar and soup. Unfortunately, they multiplied numerously in your country not here. Just sharing. Anyway, thanks for this video.

There are so many invasive species of fish, the Florida department of wildlife imported peacock bass from South America because all of those tropical fish are the natural diet of the peacock bass. They imported one invasive species to control the populations of dozens of other invasive species.
Carp is very rare in some places in the Phils. Tilapia is a very common fish. The invasive are janitor fish,knife fish and the tilapia look alike arroyo with a mole.

I can assure you that carp are considered as high-quality food here in Germany. Carp are bred in small, mostly artificial ponds. In September the water is drained and the carp are caught. Most end up in special fish restaurants that are quite popular in Franconia (Northern Bavaria.). "Guten Appetit!"

In here indonesia we eat it, deep fried and pour sweet sour sauce, or soup it. Use it for fish powder its very nutricious for fattening pigs and chicken, or use for fertilzer its very good for holticulture
Us Brits love our carp fishing where we spend millions on rods and bait a year. The medieval monks brought them over from Asia as a major food source so why not feed poor countries or make fertiliser with the carcasses

Carp is a delicious fish... a kilo of carp is actually more expensive than a kilogram of beef here in Europe and if I want to catch one myself I have to pay for a permit and spend days by trying and possibly failing.

Yeah I wouldn't be bragging about any of that! The main reason is simply because the common people in Europe have had most of their Wildlife and wildlands taken away from them. Your access to any of it is highly regulated whereas in Australia or here in the United States we have many many many many options on where we can go fishing or hunting or whatever we want to do. Carp are a f****** infestation thus the reason why we often shoot them just for fun to clear them out a little and turn them into fertilizer!
I'm from Greece, here nobody in his right mind is going to eat a carp,and we got no problem with their numbers either. I think Australians must take in consideration the use of depth charges.

My dam had been infested with Carp. Ruining it as a water store. I pumped it out and killed all the carp but eggs were brought in on the legs of birds. So no win. Finally I found that adding 10% of bore water caused the mud to settle out. Birds could see the young fingerlings and had a feast. I haven't had any now for ten years. But I still need to re dig the dam to fix the damage that they did in the past.
There is no way Carp can multiply in Croatia in these numbers Rivers and lakes are stocked with Carp fry to boost Carp population and still very little results that's why they have special lakes catch and release only for Carp In Australia and USA lakes and rivers are infested with Carp very very interesting
@FC no. They just dont eat carp in Us and Australia. Lot of European countries are landlocked with no access to fresh sea fish. In here we are grateful even for muddy shitty carp.
The problem with the introduction of the virus is that some carp are immune from it via their genetics. It can devastate numbers but it doesn’t provide a complete answer as those remaining have immunity and breed and grow in numbers due to Australia’s stunning weather. It would need the virus along with concerted effort for a few years to catch the reduced number of immune fish. This model can be seen in countries that the virus already exists.
Why Australia have a problems with Carp? Because they don't eat Carp. In Poland we have also problem with Carp, but here is hard to catch because is very little in lakes. Carp is one of my favorite fish to catch and eat. I like it more than Trout.
Absolutely no doubt that there are too many carp in SOME areas of Australia (note, SOME). However, there are contradictions to consider about why the Australian Govt. continues to provide public money to Carp eradication. Firstly...the origin of the water quality/turbidity problem in Australian waterways. From the 1970's, the Murray Darling Basin in particular has been modified/engineered to create vast pools to enhance irrigation - mainly for the Rice and Cotton farming industry. It's an admitted fact that this engineering has been a major factor in increased water turbidity, due to water flows in the Basin significantly decreasing and trapping silt from land run off. This factor should be front of mind for anyone with an interest in this situation - it's a scientifically defencible argument that adequate water flow in water way systems maintains water clarity...and that's good for native fish. So, instead of putting all the focus on a species of fish as [quote] "Bio-engineers" we have to look at the entire history of this problem, and combine with the contributory factor of the current carp biomass. If Australia could totally eradicate Carp (not feasible by the way), we would still have the water quality problem. I'm not against controlling carp numbers but I am sick of hearing the rhetoric excreted from Cotton Industry associated politicians, trying to mould public opinion and divert from the origin of an environmental issue that is made made. Just look to the UK, Mainland and Eastern Europe, North Africa etc. etc. to see that Carp co-exist with a diverse and healthy number of native fish, with the vast majority of waters they inhabit being crystal clear AND contributes to a prolific fishing and tourism industry that creates jobs and significant revenue. I'm sorry to say that Australia is the village idiot, compared to most of the world that has a population of carp.
carp fish is a very tasty fish. Its demand is increasing in India per kilo it's approx -2$ USD. People like to buy fresh live fish. It can live alive in transportation for multiple days. This can also be marketed in Australia for Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities.
Each year in early spring they gather and are concentrated in one channel or area of a water way to spawn where they can easily be netted out. To prepare a carp for eating, soak the fillets or whole fish in vinegar for about 12 hours. This eliminates and/or softens the small sharp bones after which it can be minced up and made into fish balls, or roasted with a nice stuffing and red wine marinade.

Australia is not particularly fertile. The land is very out of balance these days. That is why there are so many invasive species. Freshwater is sparse, much of our land is desert and soils are poor for farming in most places. We don't fish for this species because it is seen as a noxious pest. Native species are prized because of their rarity. It really is sad to see the old pictures of times gone by with huge Murray cod and clean freshwater rivers. These have been populations of native fish and plants have been decimated and the waters polluted by industry.
The next time we have a drought with any river along the Darling, get the army or someone to put a dam/weir a hundred meters from where that river runs into the darling. Recover as much native aquaculture as you can and let the whole river dry out, it generally will be anyway. Then when it rains again or is replenished, it will be carp free and can only add to the darling, not be added to/invaded. The CSIRO must be able to devise an anti-fish ladder/flood gate or such.
I say let recreational fishers access more of the freshwater creeks and waterways, the amount of people who love fishing could make a huge difference in the local waterways.
Carp bounty would work wonders too. Dollar per kilo would have them flying out the river. Same with foxes, cats, pigs, and toads but the councils arent ready to have this discussion

it is like in the midwest usa,we have an asian carp problem.there are ways these fish can be useful.create gater or croc farms and use these fish as feed.also use them to feed reptiles,giant snakes in zoos.use them to feed sharks,eels and other sea creatures that pray on other fish both in an aquarium or out at sea.if they are processed properly they can be used as cat food,animal feed..etc.
but the problem of fish waste had been solved as explained in the video? they made bio fertiliser.. it isnt the waste management thats the problem. its actually catching the wild carp. as you catch them. the yield lowers every year
they are trying to find a way to either fully eliminate or control population of carp effectively, which is definitely hard because they are an extremely invasive species, as well as amazingly smart for a fish species. although you could make the argument of fish collection after said virus had been released and wiped the population, the overall cost on top of the money put into researching, releasing and controlling said virus would amount to a much higher number than the people in charge are willing, or ultimately decide are willing to put into carp population control
The problem with these fish are they are tough to withstand just about any conditions, they could survive in a small creek or pond with only a foot of water. Us Aussies don't care much for eating them, they have a muddy taste with very little flavor and plenty of bones. If they were a good eating fish, there would be less of a problem. I've caught hundreds of these things here in South Australia, tried to eat them a couple of different ways, no thanks. However you can't compare them to salt water fish which are much tastier and Australia is an island surrounded with salt water. The European carp do make a great bait for catching blue swimmer crabs. :) It's also illegal in my state to return caught carp back into the water, we leave them on the bank or feed them to pelicans.
Issue is how many bones they have in comparison to makeral or other salt water fish. Also they can be quite gritty but a thourough clean and descale fixes that. Eastern countries eat carp at celebrations :)
The problem is how poeple handle them when catching them.a lot of poeple are really rough with them cuasing them to release their nasty stress hormones that ruins the meat.
This is a hard watch for me. In the Uk here carp are our fish for sport and like me match fishing, we go mad when people come to our fisheries and waterways to take and eat our carp. Majority are polish and it’s illegal here
Yes now they are starting to head down in the southern states of Australia, getting used to the cooler weather, and heading up to the Northern Territory and getting bigger and longer legs, yes brought here for the cane beetle in the 1930's, now they have spread everywhere, yes they try to sort out one solution, then that solution ends up worse.

I thought the same thing, but the answer would probably be that it would end up costing money. Things like ice to preserve the fish, the trucks to transport them, the employees that would cut them open, and the local where they would give then out would be an investment. Sadly, I think that fish is looked at as disgusting and probably even the poor wouldn’t want to eat it.
We have carp in the UK we also have KHV it kills a few but not all. Some fish seem to be immune to it. And it only spreads now and then it wont wipe them out.
This happened awhile ago but on my grandparents lake one year something happened to the carp they just started dying could find hundreds along the bank it didn't kill them all but it put a big dent in the population
We used to have tons of huge goldfish in Ohio in the US but they all died out from pesticides and chemical fertilization. Last time I was there I didn't see any where they used to be thick as flies.
Carp is a premium eating fish. In France, restaurants celebrate the opening of the course fishing season by serving carp on the menu.I have never understood why the Australians don't take advantage of this great resource. It's sheer stupidity.

I didn't realize that carp was popular for food and sport fishing. In Tennessee we have an invasion of Asian carp. The fish have invaded the Mississippi river, part of the Tennessee river and other waterways in southeast America. When I was little and we would go fishing, we didn't eat the carp we caught. My dad would dispatch each one to make sure he removed as many as possible.
Guess the virus would be the most effective way, if there was people going out to collect the dead fish every day but wouldnt it be a bit more safe to farm and release native predator fish like the cod and baramundi to control the population in more sensitive areas?

Fisheries in Victoria seems to be stocking more Murray cod into more places. If they are allowed to reach a slot limit, where they become too big, and you can't keep them. I am sure these large Cod will eat lots of carp, and help to keep carp numbers down. In the past, when these large Cod where caught lots of fishermen kept them, to eat, or to mount on a wall.

@@kellyroup4262 carp are really smart fish in europe its a trophy fish because of its immense strength on the line. One of the most explosive freshwater fish. Usually if i hook on a big one my line breaks . You need strong line to take on a carp and they are also cool looking
The people that eat them regularly purge them in freshwater for a week or more with no food. Apparently it removes the taste of soil a little. Personally, a boatload of chilli and garlic still wouldn't get it past my lips.
I live in NSW Australia and have personally pulled probably 60-100kg of carp out of my local river. The mai thing to remember when fishing for carp in Australia is that once caught it is illegal to release them so I mainly dispatch them by knocking hem over the head a few times with a stick or rock, sometimes brain spiking too but that doesn’t seem to work as well. A lot of people say that carp can’t be eaten or are bad eating. This is partially true, because they can be eaten but if you were to clean and cook them whole with no seasoning etc they won’t taste very nice plus the big ones have a rig cage like a small dog plus countless other bones. If you were going to cook one you would want to bleed it, put it on ice for several hours which makes the meat iced and the bones easier to remove, finally when actually cooking them you will want to fill them with lemon/lime, garlic, butter and other seasoning to make them taste nice, it also depends of the clean or dirty the water you catch them is as they root around in the mud and dirt on the bottom so a carp caught in a sandy bottom river will tase much nicer than one caught in a muddy bottom river etc…

The carp has take over the world, they're everywhere right here in the patagonia they adapted very well to the cold climate, it's quite obvious that without proper control they would definitely out compete the native species carp are smart and very adaptable it's a shame they taste so bad and as a fisherman is no joy to fish them for sport.
Really interesting how the view on carp changes around the world. We fish for them here in the UK on a catch and release basis. Genuinely had some of my best days and memories fishing for Carp. Fishing for them has bought myself, my friends and thousands of other people much joy. However I understand that they may impact other eco systems in different ways. how come you consider it not a joy for fishing. we raise that carp in mountainous area in Indonesia and make a great fishing fish for competition. The bigger the costly. up to 10 USD/kg. If it 10kgs it can reach 100 USD just for one fish.

Carp is an invasive species in The Netherlands as well.
They were introduced by the Romans, how cultivated them for consumption, so they have been over here a long, long time.
In fact so long that they are not considered an invasive species, and the same story applies to Zander, a species that originated from East and Middle Europe.
Zander is a fantastic gourmet fish, carp needs a little more attention.
In countries where they eat carp regularly they let them swim in very clear fresh water for a couple of weeks before they are processed for consumption.
BTW: they are both fantastic sport fish!
Yep your zander is our walleye your perch is the same here as are pike only yours tend to be a bit larger. And all of them are better then fricken carp! Altough pike are a bitch to clean!

I have been fishing the Murray River for a long time or been camping with people that were fishing. 30 years ago it was mostlycarp. In the last 10 years (since I got the fishing bug) fishing between Echuca and Barmah, I have caught about 40 Murray cod, 10 silver perch, 3 troud cods and only 1 carp. Silver perch and troud cod are protected species. I still caught more of them than carp. Murray cod are everywhere.
What a contrast to the UK & most of europe. In the UK the market for carp is massive. Fishing for carp here is huge, with anglers going for two week holidays just to fish for them. Catch & release of course.

In Czechoslovakia, a fried carp is served as a Christmas dish. It is a traditional food. Carp is usually a target fish for hobby fishermans and it is eaten.
Yes in many European countries carp is a delicacy but here in Australia they are a pest and taste and smell like crap and even if you do cook them to taste half decent it takes too much time and preparation in general they are not a delicacy here

I absolutely LOVE cooking fish with bone-in, head on. Adds a lot of flavor, retains the moisture and the whole experience of picking your meal apart is actually primal and very satisfying. It's like eating a lobster in the shell; you set up your butter, buns, utensils, put on a movie and crack open a couple cold ones. Great way to spend an occasional evening.
Chopsticks are ideal for picking bones.
Carp are as good as salmon when smoked. Cut into pieces, put in a large bowl, mix salt and brown sugar cover fish and refrigerate overnight. I use apple wood and smoke about 5 hours on low heat.
Most Asians eat like that with bones intact
It's a shame that other countries do not work with Australia based on the hunger problem throughout the world. In my state fishing access diminishes each year do to privatized water front property. We love to fish in Va. And would fish and feed til our rods break.

Even the most intensive fishing methods don't work to eliminate a species this widespread and prolific. There'll always be a reservoir and at 3 million eggs per female per season, it really takes only one or two generations to rebound.
We should look for the most effective way to utilise and obviously, we have a endless supply in our backyard so, be patient one day we can used them as the alternative source for something.

I really surprised while watching this video. Here in the Philippines, we have the same carp but never had a problem like yours. In fact, we really have a tough time catching them. They are some kinda special freshwater fish for us and they are fantastic especially when you roast them, eat them raw with vinegar and soup. Unfortunately, they multiplied numerously in your country not here. Just sharing. Anyway, thanks for this video.

There are so many invasive species of fish, the Florida department of wildlife imported peacock bass from South America because all of those tropical fish are the natural diet of the peacock bass. They imported one invasive species to control the populations of dozens of other invasive species.

I can assure you that carp are considered as high-quality food here in Germany. Carp are bred in small, mostly artificial ponds. In September the water is drained and the carp are caught. Most end up in special fish restaurants that are quite popular in Franconia (Northern Bavaria.). "Guten Appetit!"

Carp is a delicious fish... a kilo of carp is actually more expensive than a kilogram of beef here in Europe and if I want to catch one myself I have to pay for a permit and spend days by trying and possibly failing.

Yeah I wouldn't be bragging about any of that! The main reason is simply because the common people in Europe have had most of their Wildlife and wildlands taken away from them. Your access to any of it is highly regulated whereas in Australia or here in the United States we have many many many many options on where we can go fishing or hunting or whatever we want to do. Carp are a f****** infestation thus the reason why we often shoot them just for fun to clear them out a little and turn them into fertilizer!

We eat them. Follow a Chinese recipe to overcome their so so flavour. Carp is China's favourite fish because they're easy to farm.

My dam had been infested with Carp. Ruining it as a water store. I pumped it out and killed all the carp but eggs were brought in on the legs of birds. So no win. Finally I found that adding 10% of bore water caused the mud to settle out. Birds could see the young fingerlings and had a feast. I haven't had any now for ten years. But I still need to re dig the dam to fix the damage that they did in the past.

The problem with the introduction of the virus is that some carp are immune from it via their genetics. It can devastate numbers but it doesn’t provide a complete answer as those remaining have immunity and breed and grow in numbers due to Australia’s stunning weather. It would need the virus along with concerted effort for a few years to catch the reduced number of immune fish. This model can be seen in countries that the virus already exists.
Why Australia have a problems with Carp?

Carp is one of my favorite fish to catch and eat. I like it more than Trout.
Never caught one, but they are known to be stronger than most trout. Rainbow trout can be extreme though.

Absolutely no doubt that there are too many carp in SOME areas of Australia (note, SOME). However, there are contradictions to consider about why the Australian Govt. continues to provide public money to Carp eradication. Firstly...the origin of the water quality/turbidity problem in Australian waterways. From the 1970's, the Murray Darling Basin in particular has been modified/engineered to create vast pools to enhance irrigation - mainly for the Rice and Cotton farming industry. It's an admitted fact that this engineering has been a major factor in increased water turbidity, due to water flows in the Basin significantly decreasing and trapping silt from land run off. This factor should be front of mind for anyone with an interest in this situation - it's a scientifically defencible argument that adequate water flow in water way systems maintains water clarity...and that's good for native fish. So, instead of putting all the focus on a species of fish as [quote] "Bio-engineers" we have to look at the entire history of this problem, and combine with the contributory factor of the current carp biomass. If Australia could totally eradicate Carp (not feasible by the way), we would still have the water quality problem. I'm not against controlling carp numbers but I am sick of hearing the rhetoric excreted from Cotton Industry associated politicians, trying to mould public opinion and divert from the origin of an environmental issue that is made made. Just look to the UK, Mainland and Eastern Europe, North Africa etc. etc. to see that Carp co-exist with a diverse and healthy number of native fish, with the vast majority of waters they inhabit being crystal clear AND contributes to a prolific fishing and tourism industry that creates jobs and significant revenue. I'm sorry to say that Australia is the village idiot, compared to most of the world that has a population of carp.
carp fish is a very tasty fish. Its demand is increasing in India per kilo it's approx -2$ USD. People like to buy fresh live fish. It can live alive in transportation for multiple days. This can also be marketed in Australia for Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities.

Fillet, make a nice herb and oil mix and coat them, smoke for 3-4 hours, apple wood, cherry etc it's nice
Each year in early spring they gather and are concentrated in one channel or area of a water way to spawn where they can easily be netted out. To prepare a carp for eating, soak the fillets or whole fish in vinegar for about 12 hours. This eliminates and/or softens the small sharp bones after which it can be minced up and made into fish balls, or roasted with a nice stuffing and red wine marinade.
You left out the last stage -which is feed the fish balls to the chooks and eat the eggs!

Australia is not particularly fertile. The land is very out of balance these days. That is why there are so many invasive species. Freshwater is sparse, much of our land is desert and soils are poor for farming in most places. We don't fish for this species because it is seen as a noxious pest. Native species are prized because of their rarity. It really is sad to see the old pictures of times gone by with huge Murray cod and clean freshwater rivers. These have been populations of native fish and plants have been decimated and the waters polluted by industry.

The next time we have a drought with any river along the Darling, get the army or someone to put a dam/weir a hundred meters from where that river runs into the darling. Recover as much native aquaculture as you can and let the whole river dry out, it generally will be anyway. Then when it rains again or is replenished, it will be carp free and can only add to the darling, not be added to/invaded. The CSIRO must be able to devise an anti-fish ladder/flood gate or such.
I say let recreational fishers access more of the freshwater creeks and waterways, the amount of people who love fishing could make a huge difference in the local waterways.
Carp bounty would work wonders too. Dollar per kilo would have them flying out the river. Same with foxes, cats, pigs, and toads but the councils arent ready to have this discussion

it is like in the midwest usa,we have an asian carp problem.there are ways these fish can be useful.create gater or croc farms and use these fish as feed.also use them to feed reptiles,giant snakes in zoos.use them to feed sharks,eels and other sea creatures that pray on other fish both in an aquarium or out at sea.if they are processed properly they can be used as cat food,animal feed..etc.

they are trying to find a way to either fully eliminate or control population of carp effectively, which is definitely hard because they are an extremely invasive species, as well as amazingly smart for a fish species. although you could make the argument of fish collection after said virus had been released and wiped the population, the overall cost on top of the money put into researching, releasing and controlling said virus would amount to a much higher number than the people in charge are willing, or ultimately decide are willing to put into carp population control

The problem with these fish are they are tough to withstand just about any conditions, they could survive in a small creek or pond with only a foot of water. Us Aussies don't care much for eating them, they have a muddy taste with very little flavor and plenty of bones. If they were a good eating fish, there would be less of a problem. I've caught hundreds of these things here in South Australia, tried to eat them a couple of different ways, no thanks. However you can't compare them to salt water fish which are much tastier and Australia is an island surrounded with salt water. The European carp do make a great bait for catching blue swimmer crabs. :) It's also illegal in my state to return caught carp back into the water, we leave them on the bank or feed them to pelicans.

Issue is how many bones they have in comparison to makeral or other salt water fish. Also they can be quite gritty but a thourough clean and descale fixes that. Eastern countries eat carp at celebrations :)

This is a hard watch for me. In the Uk here carp are our fish for sport and like me match fishing, we go mad when people come to our fisheries and waterways to take and eat our carp. Majority are polish and it’s illegal here

Yes now they are starting to head down in the southern states of Australia, getting used to the cooler weather, and heading up to the Northern Territory and getting bigger and longer legs, yes brought here for the cane beetle in the 1930's, now they have spread everywhere, yes they try to sort out one solution, then that solution ends up worse.

I thought the same thing, but the answer would probably be that it would end up costing money. Things like ice to preserve the fish, the trucks to transport them, the employees that would cut them open, and the local where they would give then out would be an investment.
Sadly, I think that fish is looked at as disgusting and probably even the poor wouldn’t want to eat it.
We have carp in the UK we also have KHV it kills a few but not all. Some fish seem to be immune to it. And it only spreads now and then it wont wipe them out.

I didn't realize that carp was popular for food and sport fishing. In Tennessee we have an invasion of Asian carp. The fish have invaded the Mississippi river, part of the Tennessee river and other waterways in southeast America. When I was little and we would go fishing, we didn't eat the carp we caught. My dad would dispatch each one to make sure he removed as many as possible.

Fisheries in Victoria seems to be stocking more Murray cod into more places. If they are allowed to reach a slot limit, where they become too big, and you can't keep them. I am sure these large Cod will eat lots of carp, and help to keep carp numbers down. In the past, when these large Cod where caught lots of fishermen kept them, to eat, or to mount on a wall.

I've stayed with friends in Vermillion bay and fished 6-8 different lakes and some rivers and never seen a carp.
@@kellyroup4262 carp are really smart fish in europe its a trophy fish because of its immense strength on the line. One of the most explosive freshwater fish. Usually if i hook on a big one my line breaks . You need strong line to take on a carp and they are also cool looking

We cooked a carp with a native fish in foil with lemons and salts same way! Carp went in the fire where it belongs it was stinking filth.
The people that eat them regularly purge them in freshwater for a week or more with no food. Apparently it removes the taste of soil a little. Personally, a boatload of chilli and garlic still wouldn't get it past my lips.
We always have too much or too many.. some fish are hunted to extinction and others can't be fished enough, making demand drastically lower.
I live in NSW Australia and have personally pulled probably 60-100kg of carp out of my local river. The mai thing to remember when fishing for carp in Australia is that once caught it is illegal to release them so I mainly dispatch them by knocking hem over the head a few times with a stick or rock, sometimes brain spiking too but that doesn’t seem to work as well. A lot of people say that carp can’t be eaten or are bad eating. This is partially true, because they can be eaten but if you were to clean and cook them whole with no seasoning etc they won’t taste very nice plus the big ones have a rig cage like a small dog plus countless other bones. If you were going to cook one you would want to bleed it, put it on ice for several hours which makes the meat iced and the bones easier to remove, finally when actually cooking them you will want to fill them with lemon/lime, garlic, butter and other seasoning to make them taste nice, it also depends of the clean or dirty the water you catch them is as they root around in the mud and dirt on the bottom so a carp caught in a sandy bottom river will tase much nicer than one caught in a muddy bottom river etc…

Absolute rubbish, I grew up eating Carp, cleaned properly and deepfried coated with flour, salt and pepper Carp is on par with KFC, just mind the bones.....
I worry introducing a virus could not only cause the water quality issues from dead fish. But also mutate and spread to other native species, intern wiping them out aswell

All you got to do is clean carp would taking out the Mud Vein and they're really not a bad tasting fish I've ate them in the state of Kentucky they catch fish and sell them to China

The carp has take over the world, they're everywhere right here in the patagonia they adapted very well to the cold climate, it's quite obvious that without proper control they would definitely out compete the native species carp are smart and very adaptable it's a shame they taste so bad and as a fisherman is no joy to fish them for sport.
Really interesting how the view on carp changes around the world. We fish for them here in the UK on a catch and release basis. Genuinely had some of my best days and memories fishing for Carp. Fishing for them has bought myself, my friends and thousands of other people much joy. However I understand that they may impact other eco systems in different ways.
Basically what I am trying to say is that I need to go carp fishing in Patagonia 😂😂😂
how come you consider it not a joy for fishing. we raise that carp in mountainous area in Indonesia and make a great fishing fish for competition. The bigger the costly. up to 10 USD/kg. If it 10kgs it can reach 100 USD just for one fish.
