Nothing "lowly and dirty" about a man who work hard to make a living, even though he is a cobbler , he has more honor in himself and has managed to earn much self respect for himself than many . Many men who hold very high positions in society and government don't even have half of his dignity inside them.
Fans psxct
As long as it's an honest living , it's respectable to me no matter how little or how much one earns
Totally agree.
@@awakenedservant He is just a simple n decent man trying to make a honest living with his skill on small earning. 🙄
An admirable cobbler with humour n positive outlook on human behaviour!
Ditto to that!
The quality of these videos on CNA is amazing. This is my 5th video and I can't stop watching the rest of it. :D
Jay Chung is he from Singapore
Ikr
If the person paid me buy throwing the money at me..I'd throw the shoes at them
I salute you Sir for being so honest and innovative despite of old age still kicking and alive. God bless you.
He's soo cute and honest 🙏
The.man looks so dope with that pipe.great story guys
An old First Nation American Indian saying: " never judge a man until you have walked many miles in his moccasins". Your last comment would have sufficed.
Richard Han What are u even talking about?
What a guy. Would love to hear his tales of people he's mended for.
This guy is very kind and honest so as friendly
His laugh is contagious and he is so funny and cute ;)
I hope people would be more kind and humble with everyone. Just put a smile on your face and say thank you, you dont know how that small gestures will brighten’s their day.
Really a Hardworker
Deserve to be respected
Amazing spirit and resilience! His desire to fend for himself, using his own efforts, is brilliant to watch!
This video published 2017 im watching this now 2021. Im enjoying watching this uncle so nice n cheerfull. Its already 4 years ago hope uncle doing fine, long life, healthy and happy always😁😊✌🏼
Cobblers are unfortunately getting rarer and rarer these days in my place, cause people prefer to buy cheap, imported knockoff shoes from china with (unfortunately) quality almost close to the original ones. So they can simply dispose the damaged and buy new shoes. It doesnt help that cobblers earn very little that only old people unable to get any other jobs willing to do the job.
I blame Apple for it. Repair cost is insane. It gave me a bad impression that it's better to buy a new one instead of repairing it. So I got a $40 LG stylo 3 Plus, a used phone with 6 inch screen, light as a feather, quad cores and 32 gigs storages.
condorX2 i know this 7 months alr but what does apple have to do with shoe cobbling?
China may be good at making knockoffs but depends on the quality grade. Some looks great first hand, but over time with wear and tear they don’t as last long and just end up in landfill. Then it’s back to buying another replacement pair. This is due to the quality of glue and materials used. You can can get quality shoes too from China, Singapore, Vietnam ... best to invest in a good pair of quality shoes and it will last years which can even be handed down to the next generation (vintage shoes are great!) or cleaned up and donated to someone in need that’s starting out on their first job. At the end of the day, you pay for what you get ...
Unfortunately lots of Singaporeans think skilled labourers are lowly and dirty thanks to the long term use of cheap labour to sustain growth.
And thanks to that no one aren't willing to pay proper wages for skilled and service workers, it isn't that Singaporeans aren't willing to work these jobs but rather these jobs aren't enough to sustain living in Singapore.
So how much do you think its needed per month to sustain living in Singapore?
hand sewing shoes is actually super rare and requires a ton of skill. this dude is super good, especially given the tools he has.
Any job takes training and skill and is something to be admired
I'm still a student but I find this job satisfying and interesting
❤️🔥 his attitude, character, humour, happily and smiling 😀 face. 👞 👟 👠 repairs is a hard work .
we need a grandfather like this, he's seem fun to talk to
A good fellow. I could watch someone like that work all day.
just saw this video, but this man saved my shoes once as i used to head there every week for tuition during my O level days 4 years ago. Hope he is doing well now
These cobblers are the best to go when I have like 20 broken shoes procrastinated from getting fix beforehand. Doesn't matter if it takes a week to get all done. I'm so satisfied with the charges and finally could wear again all my shoes after years. Cobblers from locksmith, handbags and shoes repair booths are my 2nd option, when I need some machinery works on shoes or any works that might burden the street shoe cobblers like a lot of sewing as they're not so machinery equipped. It's not just about price, but proper shops tend to operate from places with guaranteed customers like in malls etc. but street cobblers tend to be more on survival basis and they charge very less compared to the shops so it's pretty fair if we prefer them.
(2:02)I can buy a pair of shoes with $8 these days.
Why would she go mend her shoes?
I'm Everywhere Without Videos She was expecting $2
Respect goes to Uncle who carries on this amazing job
Cobbler with pipe! Now whos talking about style? Good job sir! Keep up that positive mental attitude! 🤟🤟🤟💕
This is so soothing
An artist
4K a month, lets be honest most of us earn less than that.
Outside looks low and dirty but Inside, honorable. :)
Some people will never understand the importance in repair because they never owned something valuable.
love it. And to those who say he is low and dirty. This is just another example that shows class and money are not necessarily connected. This old man has class, honour and dignity. More than you could ever say about anyone who would look down on him.
Yea always saw him,i always go to tekka cobbler i am a regular there, ever tried the sungei rd uncle cobbler too near the jb bus stop, but haven’t try the waterloo cobbler
Respect!
Wow...just so amazing...
he's so free spirit
Im happy for the uncle but so sad for myself because I threw away my converse sneakers a month ago and I could have just give uncle 10 dollars to add some soles :(
He have a good work to help people..
Oh I saw this uncle at the corner from my last year vist I was very confused why he didn’t sell flowers or do palm reading like the others I was going to the temple then saw him edit:I have respect for this uncle
Happy and bubbly cobbler who chuckles at the silliness and negatives of human behaviour
May God bless him
He is a master of his craft. Lowly? Hah... it's majestic!
Respect :)
Totally agree with you.
If you live in Indonesia with that 4K earned a month you r super rich person.
The Great CAHYO heall yeah 41 million rupiah u rich
Imagine if the man lived in Batam, he would own a mansion
I live in Malaysia..... never mind. I will go to Singapore just to mend five of my shoes.
Sadly you couldn't find shoe cobblers when Malaysia have more of them than SG
He earns more than me working in Malaysia's McDonalds. Imma do this now.
Cuz 3:1
Four thousand? FOUR THOUSAND? screw this bruh can teach me sir
There is definitely nothing 'lowly and dirty' for this man making ends meet by being a cobbler. It may not be glamourous, but it is an honourable profession and it is not illegal. You shouldn't look down on this cobbler man. Cobbler requires skill and I would definitely need someone to repair my shoes when they are worn out. As you can see, being a cobbler is nothing to be ashamed of. This is better than illegally earning a living through being a burglar, a con artist, a thief, a hitman or a loan shark. Besides, you never know that when you are in hard times, this man might be able to help you.
Idk but i really love old Chinese guy , they really know how to enjoy life
Happy man. So rare to find
If he went to the US, refined his skills and started his own shop he'd be earning a very good income. Its just in Singapore people have no appreciation of quality goods and services not to mention being well dressed which is why there is this buy and throw away mentality.
Great guy ,
He’s not using a screw driver, he’s using a punch. And it’s not called a air conditioner engine, it’s motor. It’s electric not gas.
someone should actually help him to organize some workshops for the youngsters so at least his skills can be passed on
I love the way he smoke his pipe and have bright personality.
Hi..from Mexico
This dude is a pro
good job uncle.
holy cow 4k?
Thank cna, I juz realise my footwear can be send for repair instead of sending it back to store for ex repair.
Could get some of my shoes mended with him. Upwards, I think most of the top-end places charge like $90-$100 AUD (but i might be wrong)
I love fixing broken high heels
Hes so funny omg lololol im ded
I love neighbourhood cobblers and support them as much as I can. Just bear in mind, if you're willing to pay $8 for a pair of shoes, you're destroying the planet with your buy and throw away attitude. Purchase quality shoes that lasts and need only the occasional repair from a good cobbler. You'll get more wear out of your shoes, helps with our planet and helps support local cobblers!
I wonder where he is now, especially during your CB.
Dude I'd just sit and watch so interesting...
i guess the cobbler is in Singapore?
Not lowly at all. Having a trade such as his would be an honor. A friend of the family was a boot maker. Watching him work was amazing to me. Wish I would have became an apprentice then. Unfortunately, he is gone.
i heard he said "8 ringgit", is he from Malaysia? 😁
anyway this uncle has a positive vibe, his laughter is the best 😃
Singaporeans have the habit to use the word ringgit when they speak in Malay although the real note they meant is Sing Dollar. It is just the same when Malaysian ppl says dollar in monetary while speaking in english just that it's more commonly used in money related conversations than during direct trading
Is he still operating there? I know this is a long shot.. thank you.
Now I want to spoil my shoes so I can send it to a cobbler that is near my school to fix it
Best way to combat waste and fast fashion.
Sometimes I’ll sew my own shoes cos I love to DIY if the shoes don’t fit. My shoes can be around $30. If I fix it at the cobbler, it’ll be 1/3 of the price of the shoes which I don’t think is worth it.
We have cobblers in India too.
4k a month? oHo my job shall be a cobbler
Let's intro him to hypebeast shoe restorers , they teach Him how to mend off white aj1
Can anyone tell me where is this Uncle’s store?
Lapan ringgit boleh, haiya tak boleh kurang.
Harmony
If I were in your shoes....
Ni kat Malaysia diorang kata Ringgit
Cobbler cobbler mend my shoe ... get it done by half past two. Stitch it up and stitch it down ............. thnk u
Of course its the indian auntie who ask for discount
She still tell him that she rather buy a new one with 8 bucks... What an insult. Then u buy lahhhhh
What a pos she is.
this job would be perfect for people with foot fetishes
or high heel fetishes
Eh guys new lost trades stamp for cobblers if they all go out of business
Touch wood lah
$4000 a month whoa thats alot
What currency is this tho cuz at 1:57 he says ringgit and that's Malaysian currency
Sing dollar of course, older generation tend to use malaysian term more as a lot of them migrated from malaysia during 19xx also
I will be happy to do that if I get 4k/month
1:55 8 ringgit bude tak mau kurang lah haiyaaa !
SIngapore 🇸🇬 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬
4k a friking month
To drive the nails into the heel, you would firstly need a hammer and secondly a punch and NOT a screwdriver. Your caption of a screwdriver is INCORRECT. A screwdriver is used to install screws not nails. Thought I clarify this to your viewers.
$8 also bargain..
singaporean lah
He literally said Lapan Ringgit boleh r? wonder if older generation use Ringgit in conversation
If you can buy a new set of shoes for $8 then why don’t you uggh. r/choosingbeggars
Like everyone fuckin know where is Waterloo Street.
this channel is a singaporean news network.... so yeah... pretty much anyone in singapore knows where it is. People overseas like you on the otherhand...............
sometimes i feel we malaysian n singaporeans should get back together again...
You kick them out and see them prosper and now want to rejoin?
I thought his work looked great and not lowly or dirty at all.
4k a month to mend shoe, please lor what lowly? There will come a point when more young people will be a hawker, a cobbler or a electrician, cos it pays and people need them.
asians stereotypes : say one word, laugh for 10 minutes. repeat again, forever.
