    I think the point of the contradicting effects is that once you remove those bad effects you have those positive ones in their full strength

    • @TurbulentEitri
      @TurbulentEitri 4 місяці тому +9

      Makes sense, but I can see where Dave is coming from in wanting less text bloat. Why have them contradictory and taking up six lines of text when one can slim them down and use up half the space?

    • @JoaoPedro-ol7sl
      @JoaoPedro-ol7sl 4 місяці тому +12

      @@TurbulentEitri sure but then when you remove the bad national trait you will also remove the good effects unless Paradox does a mess of a job in the code so when the bad traits are removed the good ones remain but the trait changes name and image, it just seems unnecessary

    • @TurbulentEitri
      @TurbulentEitri 4 місяці тому +8

      It's not just about removing traits entirely, but having it where instead of having -15% construction speed in one trait and +10% construction speed on another, one would have -5% construction speed that can be improved to +10%. This ends up with less bloat overall while having the same effect.
      It is entirely possible for traits to be "replaced" which end up improving a singular national spirit with new names and icons. I've done that plenty myself with mod projects on HOI4.

    Chila wasn't completely under the incan empire, only the northern half was and there most of the population weren't quechua so chile probably shouldn't get a path to reform the tawantinsuyu (incan empire)
    The national myth mostly centers around the mapuche who live in the south and fought to keep their independence from the inca and then from the spanish
    Edit: on the other hand the recreating the incan empire is in the meme branch along with recreating the brazilian empire

      My thoughts exactly!
      It wouldn't be a good idea to burn it on Chile as well since they need to do a second rotation of focus trees in South America with Peru and Bolivia at some point in the future... so they better make a Mapuche path and a reference to Prussian military advisors in the Chilean army instead!

    Honestly at this point I am beyond the idea of it "making sense" in the focus trees.
    The Greeks can just declare the Byzantine Empire, Russia can declare Third Rome, and Spain can invoke the treaty of Tordesillas by gun point.
    Am I supposed to give a damn because Chile has "Insert unrealistic aspect" ?

    • @GPantazis
      @GPantazis 4 місяці тому +9

      The problem is how... brazen the Mapuchean path feels like. Considering the actual percentage of native Americans anywhere north of Yucatan is abysmally small, this is very clearly a path of severe colonialism/imperialism/apartheid, if not outright genocide. And yet it is framed as an act of liberation.
      We are not supposed to think we are the good guys when Fascist Greece restores the Byzantines, or when Nationalist Spain recreates one of the largest and most brutal empires in history, and yet when we are shown United States of Native America I think Paradox expects us to cheer for them.

    • @sheggy6899
      @sheggy6899 4 місяці тому +4

      I think you're reading a little too hard into the concept there.
      Of course people cheered when they restored the Byzantines or Nationalist Spain recreates their empire.
      Not cause of any moral implications but because it's incredibly difficult.
      Not everyone plays map painting the same way. Brazen or not, this game has already lost that edge to it a long time ago.

      Was kind of looking for a comment like this. I mean... Does anyone really care for such historical events?
      My problem is just irregularity with focus trees. Some are too historical for their own good, and some are just forcing it. If you're gonna aim for a goal (Historical x Fun), then all the other focus trees should follow suit.
      _Or maybe I'm just asking for a complete refresh of the old ones, that may be too. I honestly wouldn't care for South America if I could have an improved German/British tree._ *And I'm Brazillian, so there's that!*

    I personally love those contradict effects. They mean that sometimes you cant't rush to solve the problems, because you lose the positive effects. For example, Greece have the slacht-plan that gives you some debuffs, but they give you negative consumer goods. You want to get rid of that debuffs, but when your economy is ready, not before, because if you remove it, your economy gets a hit. If they didn't have any positive effect, there would not be any decision. Just rushing to eliminate them.

    I think the point of having counter-balancing traits is they change the country's dynamics as you work on it. It you have a leader focus that gives construction output but a country trait that worsens it, things are normal until you change to fascist, you lose that bonus and are left with the raw penalty. So it gives a reason to keep the default leader and work within the restrictions of democracy. Just an example.

      Unless paradox wants to model in realistic negatives such as famines caused from total war and the lack of farmers/consumer goods workers causing a massive decline in living standards this won’t happen. In the allies the total war policies only had marginal short term effects which ended once the war ended while the soviets suffered heavily in the long term because they never ended the militarization even by 1970 however no game runs that long to where the long term economic paths would be noticed. Unless paradox creates an actual economic system it wouldn’t work other than modeling famines.

    For nations like Chile they really should streamline the focus tree to at least give some of the nations in the game with a straightforward fun focus tree. Like if Brasil and Argentina have big focus trees, Chile should have a more compact streamline experience where you can start getting to war and conquering. I've looked all over for possible forums or help with this issue. I can't find anything to answer my question.
    I just started playing this game and I've been playing Sinkiang on Single Player. I make good progress and then around the time the war spreads into my region either the Soviet Union or China asks me to either join a faction or Stand with them.
    Then as soon as the USSR surrenders my game is over. No way to leave the faction beforehand.
    This latest time I didn't join the USSR Faction, but China sent me a message saying they were under attack and would I help them.
    It gave me 3 different replies and each one was in the affirmative. I clicked one of the replies and my game immediately ended, to the score/quit screen.
    The first time I played I was able to carry on playing with war going on. Now every time I play this ends up happening. It's really annoying after putting in all of the work to build up my country.
    Any responses would be appreciated. Thank you.

      you cannot leave a faction if you are at war. when the Soviet Union surrenders you do too because you are not a major (a major is a country with about 50 factories) you are kicked to the end screen by the message China sent you is because the option you picked allows them to annex you.
