The ones who came and populated the D'ni city were ... us. The explorers who followed the DRC. The players of UrU. It's hard to get a sense for it now, but for a few months during the open Beta it actually started to feel like a city waking up with people.

D'ni really isn't wheelchair friendly. Once you mentioned the weird door dome, I can't stop seeing it!

Question as someone who has no experience with Myst series and randomly decided to check out midway tru let's play.
Myst Books. The official In Reall World ones. They are story pieces right? Novels.
Q: Are there Myst books irl that desribe Ages? (that's the name for worlds right?). Like a translation of D'near into english for example that's basically history of a planet? or certain geographical region. the way, for example, Conan collection starts. With description of the world. It's land mases, it's nations, it's flora and fauna, changes it undergone over time. Pictures painted with words about rivers and lakes, forest and meadows, mountains and hills.
and if not why no? It's not a novel concept in literature and seems like something perfect for this series.
(is middle of night and im bored)

The Myst books are mostly Lore. The Language, the people and the name of the city are all called D'ni (pronounced Done Knee) There are Wikis on the Ages, if you look at Wikipedia. Hope this helps.

D'ni is a fully realized fictional language, but Cyan has never released a complete lexicon. We have a bunch of things that are partially translatable and every so often they'll release some new D'ni words. The Myst books are mostly backstory about what happens before and between the games. If you're looking for the D'ni language, the best resource available is : www.eldalamberon.com/dni_dict.htm

there isnt really much of a story. As you expect, its more of a slow description of things and events. the plot happens to the books, the plot is not the books. I think thats what Kieth struggles with. its not meant to be your typical dystopic or romance novel. Its just background information and, personally, i liked the book of atrus (you can down load the audiobook for free). Theres a lot you can glean from it that really enriches the games.
They do explain how the Ages are written, but they never really show you. Which makes sense. That would be like asking a historical record of Zuckerberg to show how he invented facebook when what you want is the biography of the man and his family. (dont ask me why i chose zuckerberg. i just did. lol)

It's not so much a sequel to the first four games as a sequel to Uru. After Ubi canceled Uru Live this game was cobbled together from content that was in preparation for Live to tie up loose ends and provide some sort of conclusion of the main story arc. I suspect this is much simplified from what Live would have given us. For example, we never learn what the heck was going on with Guildmaster Kadish and his apparent resurrection by Yeesha. He was clearly going to be a major character, having been introduced in the first part of the game and being the driving character for most of what we learn in Path of the Shell. And we never find out any more about Calum, how he survived the Fall and managed to return to D'ni, who murdered him, why he was murdered, and what Yeesha did to the murderer.

Except Uru took place roughly 200 years after these events. In Uru, Yeesha had already dealt with falling into the temptation.

The prologue was up to the first book. You pretty much did the whole yeesha story before doing any other information.
