Game Description:
The Grand Finale of the greatest adventure! Decide the fate of a civilization in this triumphant final chapter to the Myst saga. Embark on an epic journey into the heart of a shattered empire as the only explorer who can still save it- or destroy it with the wrong choices.
Whether you’re a longtime Myst fan or new to the series, the Grand Finale is an epic adventure you won’t want to miss.
Key features:
Developed by the original creators of Myst: Rand Miller and Cyan Worlds bring you the ultimate chapter in a series already renowned as the pinnacle of adventure gaming.
Explore vast 3D worlds with an easy click of the mouse: Improved point-and-click interface offers several options to accommodate your exploration style.
Interact with the world like never before: The innovative new slate lets you communicate with mysterious creatures and manipulate the world around you.
The characters of Myst brought to life: New facial mapping technology brings characters to life with unprecedented emotion and expressiveness.
Uru started in a desert near a volcano. One of the Journey cloths was in the bones of the Wahrk. Later, when you jumped through the Star Fissure on Relto after collecting the four totems, you landed back in the desert near those bones, revealing that the Star Fissure always leads there. The bones came from Riven. The giant Moeity daggar also fell into the fissure at the end of Riven. It landed right here.. inside the caldera of the volcano.
@9:33 That door handle took me so long to find I was like, "Oh my god! How can I be stumped in the very first room? This is not a good sign." lol
Keith, i think you can have wider resolutions by unchecking the "Recommended Only" button under the Resolution slider. And for the Mouse glitch i think you'll need to disable "Mouse Drive" in the controls.
Oooh, Thanks for that heads up. Damn, if the options were a Myst puzzle I totally failed. lol
I have most definitely been waiting for this playthrough all year haha
While I am largely tired of constant sequels to everything, I actually would love for there to be another Myst game. Maybe not necessarily with the same characters, but at least a return to the world and gameplay style. Probably won't happen, though, since there isn't really much demand for exploration focused puzzle/adventure games these days.
Cyan is still making games of this type. There's Obduction, which Keith has played on this channel (and I recommend watching), and they're currently developing Firmament. It doesn't take place in the Myst world (or at least there are no linking books etc), but it has the same feel and gameplay.
Asa lifelong fan of the Myst series, I respectfully disagree. Myst has run its course. Uru was supposed to be the next big Myst thing; it was given every chance to succeed and it just wasnt feasible. I think Cyan is better off leaving Myst where it is and focus on new experiences with their wonderfully creative teams. There's still www.starryexpanse.com to look forward to. And I would LOVE a sequel to Obduction maybe even more than a Myst 6. It was such an intriguing world.
Myst suffers from the Skywalker problem where the entire universe feels like it orbits around one family, which is a bit of an issue when you keep killing that family off without expanding the cast. It's such a small, restrictive story, that won't stop talking about "restoring the D'ni" over and over again. On the other hand the infinite worlds mechanics is incredibly sequel-friendly. The franchise might have felt healthier if they weren't hamstringing themselves by needing to tie everything to Atrus' family forever (three games about his sons?). As it is, the story feels like it was running on steam for half the series. They seem more interested in worldbuilding than in plot, while not recognizing how much their plot is holding back their worldbuilding.
Uru was supposed to be the break from Atrus and his family. The DRC were a large cast of interesting characters more grounded in reality. Unfortunately, Ubisoft felt like Uru wouldnt sell if it werent part of Myst proper hence the subtitle: Ages Beyond Myst and the inclusion of Yeesha as a character. It was just supposed to be you exploring the lost city of D'ni and the drama around different restoration methods and philosophies in the DRC with this whole secret slavery story hidden underneath it all. Then Uru got Firefly'd and they were forced to tell their whole overarching season plot in one poorly paced info dump. Myst V is exactly the same as Serenity in that regard.
@@HarbekVideos Not familiar with Obduction or Firmament, although I openly admit I haven't really been paying attention to what Cyan has been up to lately. Really do miss the old school adventure games, so I may have to look into that.
Oh damn, I wasn't sure anymore that this day would still come :D
Your analysis on the whole story of Myst is incredible and spot on. Glad you played the whole series even if you didn’t enjoy every second of it. We did!
The Riven Dagger is there because that is where the Star Fissure in Riven leads to. This is where the stranger from Myst 1-4 found the linking book Atrus dropped.
I would still love to see a new Myst that focuses on different characters. Hopefully they do it out of a place of inspiration rather than desperation.
I can't stand Yeesha and what they did to her, the same with the Bahro, not a fan. Which leads me to ignoring most of the plot points of both this game and that of Uru. (Both games are fun to play, its just some of the storylines are whatever).
New Myst LP on the day Mysterium starts? Perfect timing.
The crater you start out in with the Moeity dagger is Earth, it's the big crater you can run around when Uru starts. It's the dagger next to the cage you start in Riven, it's a fun way to tie 3 games together
I think this game cops too much hate. I think it is pretty fun still.
I forgot how crazy impressive the cloth physics are in this game. Way beyond where everyone else was at the time - even if the realtime 3d itself fell flat in places.
The characters were animated using something like mocap, with a weird headset that captured the facial expressions.
As for the developmental relationship with Uru, my understanding is that this game is basically stuff that was supposed to be part of Uru that they scraped together into a finale when they realized the project wouldn't be able to continue as they'd planned.
Nah, it's not motion capture, and there are no dots. They're literally just filming the actors faces and displaying that cropped video on the characters' faces.
@@KeithBallardA The *body movement* definitely was motion-captured.
@@sashakindel3600 Most likely not by the original actors, though. Quite often (although not always) in video games the motion actor and the voice actor are two separate people.
@@Maverick341534 I really like that this is changing nowadays. That you actually have actors appearing in games with their body, their face and their voice.
@@noisykestrel it is a trend that's happening more and more. And I agree that it's a welcome change.
Yeees. I've waited for this. I think Myst 5 is the least interesting Myst game in terms of story, but then again, story isn't really the most important part of the Myst series. In terms of visuals and puzzles, it's quite good I think.
When I started this game I got the impression you are the same person from Myst because the Yeesha mentions you looking for Atrus
@0:30 Why does it have to be desperation? Why can't it be just for fun?
Gehn was not "born evil". His childhood was no bed of roses, as _The Book of Ti'ana_ explains. Basically he was taken from his parents at a very young age against his mother's better judgement to be placed in an apprenticeship program as was D'ni tradition. During that time he was horribly bullied as a "half breed" and came to feel that his mother had abandoned him. Because of the bullying from the full-blooded D'ni, he tried to cling to that heritage to try to gain acceptance and became fanatical about the superiority of the D'ni. The downfall of the D'ni and death of his father, which he also blamed on his mother, made things worse. His final collapse into evil came when his mother "betrayed" him for the last time by failing to save his wife.
Nor were Sirrus and Achenar "born evil". As Myst IV makes clear, they were pretty normal kids who were getting plenty of love and attention from their parents and Ti'ana. But after Ti'ana's death, both parents became neglectful, mired in grief and, in Catherine's case, guilt. They were so wrapped up in themselves that they failed to realize the kids were grieving too and needed help to get through it.
Tiana is somehow the only good parent in an entire game franchise's universe.
So I've been googling first person, click adventure stone tablet alien picks up tablet changes weather.....
.....to no avail. Then I just types in different version of must and hey presto.
I once had my game glitch and had to restart it, so I was playing through as fast as possible. And it turns out once you know what to do with the puzzles in this game, it becomes "Esher presents: The Esher Monologues - A series of Esher Monologues, presented by Esher"
I'm not really fond of what they did to Yeesha in this game. As you read through her journals she seems to get dangerously close to turning into Gehn thinking of herself as a god and being corrupted by her own power. I had higher hopes for her. Oh well.
Yay, I'm so delighted! This is one of the games I never played myself so it will be interesting to watch. Also I love listening to your reflections on the characters and how they turned out how they did.
I assume you're the same person as the first four games! Yeesha assumed you're looking for Atrus, and possibly the letter at the beginning was to you?
I've been looking forward to this. It was your Myst LP that lead me to your channel in the first place.
This game has one of My favorite ages in all of Myst. Can’t wait to watch you play it :)
@23:15 Where the hell are you reading that?
It's here! Oh Boi, i waited for this so long :3
Oh what a pleasant surprise ;)
YAY another myst game awsome :)
Don't talk about Katran that way, bruh.
This is end of age... But there is exist few Myst inspired games)
Was interesting the moment you started messing with the resolution settings and stuff in game my screen I was watching on started acted up & thought it was your recording.
That bubble reminds me of the projection pools in Outer Wilds.
Book of Atrus was meh. I loved Book of Ti'ana.
0:44 Anybody else see googly eyes?
Same person in all 5 myst games, as far as I know. Yeesha even says "Of course it's you"
The protagonist of Myst V is Dr. Watson from URU.
@@KeithBallardA Huh, I must have not realised in my playthroughs, or forgotten! I guess that makes sense! :)
Shorah Bigohtee :D
To much talking
Man I wish you’d play the storyline of World of Warcraft.
I literally have hundreds of WoW videos.
@@KeithBallardA, haha for real? Awesome. I’ll find them.
You forgot or didn't explain that Katherine talked Atrius into releasing the boys and hoping they have had a reformed attitude in Myst 4 but I didn't stick around to watch past the first video cause you were dawdling about and being annoying at the time and I just wanted straight forward gameplay so I said I would resolve that issue later but I came back to you after Abduction.
