We took a group of friends over 520 last summer and they love the views along the lake, and where we stopped by the turn to Kite Lake. Before you get to 520, North Clear Creek Falls Overlook is just off of highway, it's nice falls that's cool to see. Have fun.
I think back to this trail every now and then, did it around 2002, seemed so remote. Saw a Momma and baby moose standing in a small pond just off the trail in deep woods. Strongly recommend this trail.
Sure is good to see new people making that trail. Been going there since 89. Timber Hill, Pole Creek, Stoney Pass, Kite Lake and cord 3b to the mine. We try not to miss going every year but its 972 miles from Texas. I remember when stoney was barely wide enough for a 4x4 truck to go over . We missed 21 and went to Arkansas. Thanx for taking us along. Will be there in 22 "Thanx Fer Sharin"
Thanks for the video, just did this. Gets a bit scketchier than the video leads on, but easier, with some exposure on the pass and the way down to silverton.
Creed To Stoney Pass is about 2 1/2 hours. Just Stoney from pole creek to Silverton takes about 1 1/2 hours . Rio Grande Reservoir is also on cord 520. Timber Hill is rough so you have to take it slow or it will brake your stuff. Pole Creek can be tough if its been raining a lot. I have quite a few Videos of that run . starting with the Reservoir. Dont mean to hijack Randy And Penny views. Sorry if i did.
I believe i will do this in 2 days, in sapinero camping on blue mesa res right now. Glad i came across this video!

It's my top prick of ways into the Silverton area. We ran it again this year after going over the pass at The great Sand Dume NP.

We ran it again last summer and in some places it has got rougher.
What is the total distance of this route ?
It's around 45 miles from 149 to Silverton. That's without any of the side runs to Kite Lake or the Mine.
How long did it take you ? 4 hours ? We have been up to Stony pass from Silverton but never have taken it all the way to Creede.
