The Problem with Collectathons | Just My Opinion

Collectathons practically raised me. Other than pure 2D platformers, these games are probably the ones I played the most as a child. And like many my age, these games were some of my first experiences with three dimensional gaming. Are they as good as we remember them being or are we simply blinded by nostalgia? Why is it that so many modern attempts at making collectathons seem to fall flat? Well, I think I have the answer.
