  • In our latest classic car feature film we chat with Nigel Burgess about his love for the Alpine A110. His car is a genuine Alpine Works rally car that raced in the Tour de France Automobile. It is a thing of beauty. Watch our film to see it in action.

    A brilliant film, and a great owner..
    Is it my age, but i can't be the only one who thinks that older cars are so achingly pretty...There are just so many cars from the 40's, 50's and 60's..even into the 70's there were some stunners like the Lancia Stratos, but there just seem to be so many more beautiful cars from these earlier decades...the new version of the A110 is pretty, but it isn't a patch on this one...absolutely beautiful.

      Thank you very much Simon! Glad you liked the film! Cars from those eras were designed so differently than they are today. They just seemed to so much more attractive and easy on the eye. I find it a lot harder to say that about modern cars. I have seen a new A110 and sat in one. It is very pretty with lots of nice nods to the old A110. But if I had to choose I'd have the original car any day. It is just so beautiful!

    Fabulous machine!
    As a child, I used to see some stretches of the Rally TAP (Rally Portjgal).
    The Alpine, the Lancias and the Fiat 124 Convertible were dominant.
    Note only here, but also in Monte Carlo, in Finland, etc.
    Acctually the 124 was raced by a famous nordic Pilot, usual winner of the competitions.
    A Friend of mine presently owns an Alpine -- winner of several Rallies, namely Monte Carlo.
    The car is driven from time to time -- not often because is worth a fortune.
    I believe that her provenance renders the vehicle particularly special.
    Thank you for this fantastic video -- at the outset, the tree-leaves on the ground impart an artístic, poetic touch to your production.
    Indeed, your Alpine is in the right hands .

    When Enzo Ferrari said that the E-type Jag is the most beautiful car in the world to look at I don't think that he was right, it is a very pretty car but I think the A110 was that little bit nicer.
    I'm sure some will disagree with me but I really think the A110 looks better.

    • @TaketotheRoad
      @TaketotheRoad  5 років тому +2

      Agree with you completely. The e-Type is a gorgeous car. But The A110 is in a different league altogether, in my opinion. Not just a beautiful car but one of the most stunning rally cars as well. Just love it!

      I don't feel things as you're doing. At the age of 18 I had a Simca Rallye and I was dreaming about Alpine. I still do. But nothing to do with beauty.
      When sitting in a A110, you feel by all your senses, in every part of your body the adrenaline of competition. I would like to have one in my garage, and I may be every night in my garage to feel a bit better and alive. I would like to have an E-type in my living room. I should be sitting in a comfortable arm chair, drinking a glass of Lagavulin and watching at perfection and fall asleep gently in a feeling of bliss. Whatever may be, in the morning I go to job ib my toyota prius...

    Nice car and interesting story from the owner. Not sure how old he is but there will come a time when getting in and out will prove extremely difficult.....they are incredibly low down! I used to live near a guy who owned an A110.....i never got to drive it though!

    • @TaketotheRoad
      @TaketotheRoad  6 років тому

      Thanks for watching! Yes Nigel is very aware that a time will come when he can’t drive it any more. It sits so low getting in and out isn’t dignified. Have never driven one myself but would love to have a go. There is actually one in my village, a road going non Works version. Hoping to get a close look at it in the summer.

    Spending your money on such a beautiful car, is NOT a waste of your money. You let it live on. Something a Yenghi would never do, they would either run it down, or put it in a museum, and let it die of frustration. You are so fortunate to have such a MAGNIFICENT car, streets ahead of a TA. 💙🤍❤ And real Marachel lights, perfection.

      Genuinely great - very adjustable handling. I think the 1296cc engine is a real gem - revs like mad and mine makes 124bhp (rolling road figures)

    • @TaketotheRoad
      @TaketotheRoad  6 років тому

      Awesome! It did feel like Nigel's hated ticking over. Its a characteristic of small but highly tuned engines. They just sound and feel so much more happy when they are pushed hard. And Nigel's really did sing when he opened up the throttle. When I imagine the A110s handling I think of my Bertone x1/9. That handles great with wonderful steering. So with the Alpine I expect the experience is much more squat and planted.... and with a good bit more BHP as well. 124BHP for yours is a decent number. Power to weight ratio is phenomenal on them!

    • @rh1300s
      @rh1300s 6 років тому +1

      My mate had a 1300 X1/9 (brilliant car) - the A110 feels much lighter, the steering is as if plugged into your wrists. The mass feels much lower. On a tight corner with the Alp' - turn in on a trailing throttle, you let the rear wander round until you are facing where you want to go and then apply throttle - off she goes. Mind you if you let the car drive you instead of you it.....the rear can be savage. Nigel's sounded like it may be rich on the idle jets or volume control screws?

    Hi, I'm currently building 2 Alpine A110, one with the 1.3 liter engine and another one with a 2.0 liter Gordini, but I have issues with cooling and would love to have some help on what's done to this ones cooling system, could you please help me??

      Those are 2 cool projects to be working on! Nice one! I don’t have contact with the owner any more so you are probably better off joining an Alpine club. I’m sure other owners will have plenty of advise for you.

    • @TaketotheRoad
      @TaketotheRoad  5 років тому

      They are getting harder to find as projects. You might have more luck with the finding one in Brazil. As they built them there under license as an Interlagos. Not quite the same as a factory Alpine built in France though.

    • @chucku00
      @chucku00 5 років тому +1

      Look for Dinalpin (Mexico) or Interlagos (Brazil).

    13k early 1990 prices but f40 still traded at times at 1 Million pounds (Nigel Mansen), the XJ220 was half a million and the EB110 around that. So much lower but not really.

    @chucku00 5 років тому +1

    Of course Marc Mignotet worked on this engine in order to compete properly in the 1969 Tour de France auto.
